16: Cabin 21

After Percy managed to explain it as best he could, he looked over his shoulder at the cabins, and grew incredibly confused. "What the Hades happened?"

The others easily figured what he was asking. "One day they just moved. And that new one showed up at the head, where One and Two used to be." Chris said.

Percy had a suspicion and quickly stood, marching toward the new cabin at the head. The table jumped after him.

"No one's been able to get in to figure out anything more." Chris added.

"Yeah, Five gave it our best. The door won't budge." Clarisse huffed.

"No luck on our end either." Connor pitched in.

"Can't even see in the windows." Travis complained.

"20 didn't have any luck either. They said it was like the cabin was waiting or something. Creepy, if you ask me." Chris said.

They turned a corner, and Percy abruptly stopped in front of the cabin. He took in the pale blue paint, driftwood trim, net hammocks hanging on the front deck, double driftwood doors, and ivory curtains blocking the view from within. Everything about this cabin -house seemed to say 'home' to him. But the symbol above the door confirmed it: a hand firmly grasping the hilt of a sword, the tip pointing to the sky.

"Yeah. That's the cabin." Connor said. "We've been calling it 21."

"Some of the campers are making up stories or theories about it." Travis added.

Percy swallowed. This was his cabin. His feet took him forward, up the steps. His hand trailed along the smooth driftwood railing. When he got close to the doors, he reached out a hand. Before he could even touch them, they slowly opened, as though a silent breeze were guiding them.

He heard splutters of surprise from behind him, but continued walking inside. The curtains parted by themselves as he entered, shedding light upon the pristinely clean interior. To his left was a large living room. There were plenty of bean bags laying around in an orderly disorder, surrounding a large coffee table. Against a wall was a two person loveseat, and Percy had seen this particular piece of furniture before: In the throne room of Olympus. To his right was a kitchen, and a large dining room.

He heard footsteps behind him and knew that his friends had joined him. "I take it this is your cabin then, Prissy." Clarisse commented as she looked around.

"Yeah." Percy said, still dumbstruck that this was real.

"How the hell did you get a cabin? Only the major gods have cabins..." Chris trailed off.

"I guess being King counts for something." Percy said absently, looking around in awe of his cabin.

"King?" Chris, Travis, Connor, Jason, Piper, Frank, and Hazel all said in unified surprise.

"Yeah." Percy said, still distracted.

"Do you mean King of the Gods?" Jason asked.

"Unfortunately." Percy replied, walking further into the house-cabin.

"You're actually the King of the Gods?" Frank questioned, again, to make sure he'd heard right.

"Yep." Percy said. "Got in a fight and kicked Zeus' ass. Dethroned him."

While the demigods gaped behind him, Percy fully realized that he was about to explore. To his left beyond the living area, was a staircase. He'd come back to that in a minute. Opposite the staircase across the hall was a bathroom. The back half of the house (He was thinking this was more of a house than a cabin at this point) was divided into rooms. Each room was lined down two walls with bunks.

The bunks were built into the walls, with drawers under the beds, and curtains to draw for privacy. They weren't overly spacious, but they definitely weren't cramped. The space was used effectively, and for comfort.

"Woah." Travis, Connor, and Leo said in unison. "Cozy." The brothers and Leo exchanged a look that said they weren't sure what to think about all three of them speaking at the same time.

"Jinx!" Leo suddenly said, pointing to the two. They both groaned. Leo fist-pumped in victory. "You owe me a favor." He said smugly with a mischievous grin. The Stolls exchanged a curious, yet wary expression.

"Are we just going to ignore that he's now the freaking King of the Gods?" Chris inquired incredulously.

"Honestly, he doesn't surprise me much anymore." Will replied. Nico nodded.

"You have to accept the crazy and let it go before it hurts your head," Hazel offered to Chris.

"That is very accurate." Leo chirped. "That should be my third motto."

"What's your first?" Connor asked.

"'All da ladies luv Leo'." He replied dutifully.

"And the second?" Travis raised an eyebrow.

"'I try not to think. It interferes with being nuts'." Leo grinned. The Stolls high-fived the son of Hephaestus. Calypso sighed heavily, a small smile tugging at her lips.

Percy turned around, and slipped through his crowd of friends back toward the staircase. He had one foot on the first step when he realized it had a downstairs as well. He headed down the stairs instead. Turning around the corner at the bottom, he realized it was an armory and training area. And if his quick guess was anything to go by, a room for council/planning.

Clarisse whistled from behind his shoulder. "That's nice." She appraised the setup.

Percy turned back and past his friends and up two flights of stairs. A few more dorm-y bunk rooms, and then a few larger rooms. The first of the normal bedrooms instantly gave Percy the impression that this was their room. This was his and Annabeth's room. He paused, taking it in. Then he stepped out from the room, and walked to the next.

This door he opened, and sunk to his knees. One hand hung limply from the handle, and the other covered his mouth as he tried to hold back sobs. He failed, and when his friends came up the stairs they quickly joined his side, and paused when they saw the room.

Piper and Hazel were kneeling beside him in an instant, comfortingly rubbing his back, and running fingers through his hair. As Piper brushed hair from his face, she looked back at Nico and mouthed 'Annabeth'. With a single nod, Nico stepped into a room a vanished into shadows.

A minute later, Nico returned with Annabeth who they parted for. She stood in shock for a few seconds, before falling into a kneel beside Percy. She wrapped her arms around him, and he clung to her like a life-line. As Annabeth looked ahead into the room, her own eyes began to water.

Their friends left the two, giving them the space they needed. Together, they cried tears. Of hope, of pain, of bittersweet. Of just letting it out, letting go of the bottled emotions that hadn't been dealt with.

And the room before them waited warmly, patiently for the day it would be needed. Colors in sweet pastels and soft fabrics, gentle light and a faint smell of clean ocean bathed the room. The nursery would remain until it's time came.

Kat slipped into the attic without being noticed. Which was pretty cool and lucky. Seeing the littered trophies and items strewn about, she gained an idea. She closed her eyes, and looked for the Seidr. After a few minutes, she found it, and opened her eyes. She knew that her eyes were glowing, and that was probably really cool.

She looked over the items that had been tossed in here, forgotten over time. Trophies, spoils of war, she wasn't really interested in. It was the magical things that interested her. However, a ring that changed the color of your nails wasn't something she was looking for either.

Eventually, she came across a pair of glasses that were imperial gold framed. They were fine and delicate, though humming with soft magic. A little note was tied onto the frame with a string. 'See through Mist' it read. Kat grinned and pocketed the forgotten pair.

Her search for anything interesting continued. When she didn't find anything, she huffed, and made her way down. As she walked down the hallway, a bookshelf caught her eye and she paused in front of it.

"Interested in some light reading?" A familiar voice inquired lightly, and Kat turned to see her twin's mentor.

"It's for a friend." Kat replied.

"Ah. That makes more sense. I might have died of shock otherwise." Chiron smiled.

Kat smirked. "Do you have any books that are like, spot on for the correct stories?"

"Of our stories?"

"Yeah." Kat nodded.

"The brown leather one to the left on the second highest shelf." Chiron replied.

Kat looked up and frowned. "There are like at least eight matching that description."

"It has a blue one to the right of it." Chiron added.

Kat pointed to a book. "This one?"

"No, the other blue one."

"This one?"

"The other right."

"This?"

"No, by the green-"

"You mean this one?"

"Not the bright green, the dark green."

"This one?"

"No, no, leather, dear."

"I- Please just... If it's not this one I'm giving up." Kat sighed.

"Yes."

"Yes what?"

"That's the one."

"Thanks." Kat said, and pulled it down, blowing some dust off it.

"Your eyes are glowing." Chiron commented.

Kat's eyes snapped up to him. She let go of the Seidr around her. "Oh, it's just-"

"Seidr." Chiron smiled softly. "Norse magic."

"How did you-?" Kat trailed off.

"I'm old, Katha. I know of the Asgardians." Chiron answered.

"Oh." Kat said.

"I assume that is for your Asgardian friend?" Chiron raised an eyebrow.

"I uh, if, if it's okay that I give it to him." Kat blinked.

Chiron gained a playful smirk. "It's alright. I have copies."

"You do?"

"Yes; the brown leather ones on the second highest shelf."

Kat's jaw opened slightly. "Those are all copies of the same book?"

"Indeed." Chiron nodded.

"Now I know how you can tolerate demigods. You can be just as much of a little shit." Kat blurted before she could filter herself, and quickly snapped her mouth closed as a look of horror came across her face.

Chiron only laughed, and waved off her concern. "I have to find simple things to amuse myself."

"Well, you're good at it. Thought I was being stupid, not that you were messing with me." Kat complimented him.

"It comes with practice." Chiron replied. There was a momentary silence between them, though it wasn't awkward. "You should get back soon."

"Back where?" Kat asked.

"To the tower."

"Oh."

"I have a feeling you'll be needed soon." Chiron said softly, but not grimly.

"What do you mean, 'needed soon'?" Kat frowned.

"You've heard the prophecy, yes?" Chiron asked.

"Yeah."

"I have my own theories." Chiron said simply. "Just do what you think best, Katha."

"Thanks, I guess?" Kat said, as Chiron smiled a farewell, and began to roll away in his magic wheelchair.

~~~~~~
Loki woke to find a plate of cookies on the nightstand, with a note that consisted of a heart and the letter K. A soft smile grew on his face. He wondered if she meant it jokingly, honestly, by mistake, or however he decided to take it.
Loki took the cookies for the reprieve they were; he didn't have to leave the room to socialize with anyone to get food. However, after a few cookies, he wondered where Katha was. And let his magic spread to find where she was, only she wasn't in the tower. The partially eaten cookie was forgotten on the plate as he left their room.
"Hello?" Loki called out.
"Do you require anything?" JARVIS asked.
Loki startled for a second. "Where is Katha?"
"Miss Katha is at Camp Half Blood with Perseus." JARVIS answered.
Loki came to a complete standstill, and felt a chill run down his spine.
Tony was walking to the kitchen to get breakfast- or lunch, whichever it counted as at this time, when he saw Loki furiously pacing in the living room. "What's got you so worked up about?"
"Katha-"
"Keep in your pants, Reindeer Games." Tony said instantly, dismissive.
Loki snarled. "Do not think so low of me."
Tony gained a cautious stance.
Loki regained his composure. "Katha has gone to that camp with Perseus."
Tony's expression became wary. "What's wrong with that?"
"That 'Press conference' was taxing on her mind, and I was there to help her. She is out of my reach now. I cannot help her. That place will hold an extraordinary amount of memories for her." Loki said blatantly.
Tony's eyes widened, and cursed. He pulled out his phone and began to instruct JARVIS on calling Camp, as Percy had done his first day at the tower. Loki resumed pacing with long strides, a harsh expression on his face.
As Tony was about to hit the 'dial' button, Kat reappeared in the room. With an 'eep!' she disappeared. Quickly stashing the book and glasses in a temporary hiding spot, she vapour traveled back to the living room.
"Sorry," She immediately apologized. "Christmas presents. Couldn't let you see."
Some air was abruptly forced from her lungs when the god made impact with her. Confusedly, she patted his back in return, and he loosened his hold on her, pulling away from the hug. He tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, and poured magic into his spell in her head. "You are alright?" He asked with worried eyes.
"Yeah, besides the pissed-off fueled adrenaline. Little itsy-bitsy headache, but that's probably just from the wrestling bit. Or the vague mentor pep talk." She frowned at the last bit.
"What?" Tony asked.
"Oh." Kat said with wide eyes. "Oh, Percy was being stupid, so I kinda kidnapped him and dropped him off at camp. Talked a bit with Chiron too."
"What kind of stupid?" Tony wondered.
"The kind that he'll hate himself for later. He was unintentionally doing something he hated other...s... doing." Kat said. A thought hit Kat, and gained a heavy, uncomfortable feeling in her chest.
"What is it?" Loki asked quickly.
"I don't know." Kat replied, half honest. "Weird feeling. I'll figure it out eventually."
Loki hummed in response, and then recalled what she had said earlier. He'd heard it a few times, and wondered of it's importance. "What is 'Christmas'?"
Both Kat and Tony gained identical appalled expressions. Kat grabbed the god by the wrists and pulled him over to the couch, sitting him down. The Starks began to thoroughly explain the holiday to the god.
