10: We Name Thee

Kat took a deep breath. She looked at her hair, her tattoo, her bracelet. She felt real. Katha, she thought, my name is Katha, and I am real.

She left the bathroom, and slowly walked down the stairs. She heard Natasha and Clint's voices quiet as they heard her. She wondered if they would freak out over her new look.

When she got off the last step, she finally looked up from her Vans clad feet and ripped skinny jeans. She tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. "Uh, hi." She said to her aunt and uncle who were staring.

"Hey." Clint replied just as softly.

She walked over to them. Considering her tank top left her arms bare, they saw the tattoo pretty quick.

"Tattoo?" Clint frowned. "Hair and a tattoo? When did that happen?"

"Aphrodite came over." Kat answered.

"That's who you were talking to?" Natasha asked.

"Yeah. She uh, she gave me this," Kat lifted her arm to show the bracelet. "It's magic. It um, does a thing. So that I don't always feel like, like that." Kat gestured toward the bathroom.

"She took away your emotions?" Natasha frowned.

"No." Kat said. "Just Percy's love for Annabeth. And it's only trapped in here, not gone. I'll have to face it again later."

Natasha nodded, and Clint wrapped her in a hug. "So what's with the look?" He asked lightly, changing the subject.

"I was too much like Percy. I needed to be different. I know that we'll always be similar, like, really similar, but we aren't the same person." Kat said firmly.

They both nodded. Natasha had a small smirk. "Do you like it?"

Kat glanced down at the tattoo. "Yeah. It's me."

Clint's head cocked to the side. "Is that Tony's flowers?"

Kat laughed. "Yup."

"Because that's going to help that ego of his." Natasha said sarcastically.

Clint's eyes widened, and he laughed. "Oh man, he's going to be a pain."

"He is." Natasha said, and her smirk grew slightly. "You should go check on Loki. He's been pacing out there for a while."

"Oh. Aphrodite said..." Kat trailed off.

"He'll probably like the look too." Natasha smirked fully.

Kat blinked. "Auntie-!" She blurted, but the woman in question laughed unrepentant.

Clint glared out the window, his thoughts a mess. He didn't trust Loki, but the god had helped Kat. And 'I might'? Clint had no idea what to think.

"Okay, bye before you can say more stuff like that." Kat quickly exited the house.

She was quick to find Loki. "Hey." She said.

Relief flashed in his eyes, and then curiosity. She saw him look over her new appearance, and then stop at the bracelet. "May I?" He asked.

She finished walking the space between them, and held out her wrist. "As long as you don't mess it up."

Loki gently held her wrist in one hand, and she could tell he was using his magic. There was always a slight tingle in the air when he did. "I see." He said, and let go of her wrist.

"So yeah. I'm okay, for now." Kat shuffled a shoe around the grass.

"Why would that be a concern of mine?" Loki said offhandedly.

Kat smirked. "Aphrodite said you were getting anxious, and Auntie Tasha said you were pacing."

Loki looked away. Kat laughed. He gave her a slightly insulted look.

Kat pat his shoulder. "Relax. They're teasing me, too. It's what... midgardians? Do."

Loki didn't respond. Kat sighed. "Okay. You have to be bored. What do you want to do?"

"What do I want to do?" Loki echoed.

"Yeah! You must be bored here. I don't have anything to do." Kat said.

Loki had a mildly surprised look. Kat shrugged. "We're two gods on a farm in the middle of nowhere."

~~~~~~
The two ended up sparring without weapons. It was actually fun. Kat enjoyed the challenge that came with a highly skilled opponent. Loki enjoyed that his opponent didn't hold a strong distaste for him, or a distaste at all, and that she didn't hold intentions to actually harm him.
Loki pulled a great maneuver, and Kat startled, flipping out of the way. They both froze in surprise. Then Kat snorted, trying to hold in her laugh. She failed. Loki ended up laughing too, after all, gymnastics are not a thing found on Asgard, and she looked ridiculous.
Kat hadn't heard him laugh like that before. She noted that it was the kind you wanted to hear. And Loki thought that Kat's laugh was whole, and free.
As their laughter faded, Cooper and Lila came outside. The kids dashed over to Kat, and took a minute to talk about her hair and tattoo. Then they looked to Loki.
"So what were you guys doing?" Cooper asked.
"Sparring." Kat replied, grinning.
"Sparring? Like Auntie Tasha and Uncle Clint?" Lila asked.
"Yeah, like them." Kat nodded.
"Can you show us?" Cooper hoped. "They do lots of cool things."
"Well, that depends on if Loki's up for more. I think I hurt his lungs." Kat joked.
"Did you stab him?" Cooper asked quietly, and Lila gave him a wary, concerned look out of the corner of her eye. Loki raised an eyebrow.
"No, I didn't stab him. I made him laugh really hard." Kat said.
"Oh." Cooper said.
"So, you up for round whatever this is?" Kat asked Loki.
Loki shrugged, and stood in a ready stance, though it was extremely casual. Cooper and Lila cheered, and backed off to give them space.
Kat launched at him. Of course she didn't land a hit, but the match had begun. Now, these last couple matches she'd started to build a theory. So she tested it as subtly as she could, and she didn't think Loki had caught on yet.
Loki got the upper hand, and pinned her to the ground. It would have been a win for him, and the smirk on his face told her he thought so. But she had an idea.
Instead of surrendering, she practically hugged the guy. She heard a muffled noise of surprise, before she tried to tickle his side. Loki jerked and his hold on her loosened.
She flipped him off her and sat on him, grinning as he was pinned. She held one hand threateningly at him, wiggling her fingers like she would tickle him again. The other pinned his shoulders to the ground.
Loki looked at her with wide eyes, and the kids cheered. She got off of him before either of them could make it awkward, and offered her hand to help him up. With a curious expression, he accepted.
The kids started ranting about what the two gods had done, adorably trying to imitate moves. And then the taunting began, and Kat was wrestling with the kids. When they were both latched onto her like leeches, Kat reached out with her one free hand.
"Help!" She begged of Loki.
Loki smirked, and helped the kids.
He instantly became a friend in their books.
When Clint and Natasha came out, Kat had one last hope. Luckily for her, her aunt and uncle saw how dire the situation was, and called them in for dinner. The kids grumbled, but made a break for it when they were informed it was lasagna that awaited them.
Kat sprawled out on the grass, grinning as she caught her breath. Loki was seated beside her, a soft smile on his own face. Kat noticed his pensive expression.
"When was the last time you got to play with kids?" Kat asked.
"Oh, several hundred years ago." Loki said.
"Damn. That's sad." Kat didn't like the idea.
"I suppose." Loki replied casually.
They were quiet for a few seconds. Kat sat up, and offered her hand for Loki to shake. "Friends?"
Loki was nearly in his fifties when someone had last offered friendship to him. He blinked at her hand, and the tattoo spanning her entire forearm. For the first time in a long, long while, he believed the offer to be genuine. He shook her hand.
Kat nodded. She looked over to the house. "Have you ever had lasagna?"
"No." Loki said.
Kat stood and beckoned him to follow. "Come on, you'll like it."
Loki thought that perhaps, the Norns hadn't sent him to help her. Perhaps, they had sent him for her help.
~~~~~~

The next day, Clint got called out for a mission. Kat left Loki to practice his magic and went with Natasha to the studio. Kat was a quick learner. When it came to physical things, once she had figured out how to make her body move the way she wanted, she could do it whenever.

The professional ballet instructor Natasha had hired was flabbergasted. He couldn't believe that Kat hadn't done it before. He was hugely impressed with Natasha's strength as well. Kat found that she loved ballet. And since it was also quality time with Natasha, it was extra great.

Over the next few days, Kat practiced ballet, gymnastics, and when she hung out with Loki, her powers. She played board games with the Bartons- was Natasha a Barton?  Kat didn't know, and the question almost burned in her mind. She and Loki rather enjoyed the banter they had between them.

When the weather got colder, Kat took to stealing Loki's suit jackets. She'd stick her tongue out at him and he'd sigh. If an insult was particularly sharp, she'd poke him in his ticklish spot. And she'd give his jackets back eventually, because she wasn't cold.

To annoy her, he often made an illusion duplicate of himself, and she'd have to figure out which one was the real him, because you can't smack an illusion. Once, he had worked some more detailed illusionry, and made a tree disappear. Kat had then walked into the invisible tree.

When Kat got good enough at spotting illusion from real, Loki would speak Asgardian, which she didn't understand. She had returned the favor by speaking Greek. Unfortunately, he was incredibly smart and began to pick up on it. They came to an agreement to teach each other the basics of the languages.

At first, having a 'friend' had been so abnormal that Loki wasn't sure what to do. But he quickly fell into the chaotic friendship that came with Kat. She gave him space, while at the same time she'd show up in his room while he was asleep, hoping to prank him. She wasn't successful, due to the warding he'd placed around his room.

He did, however, prank her. He left a ton of confusing spells around her room. He couldn't affect her directly, but the things around her were fair game.

Clint came back, Natasha left. No rest for the wicked, no rest for the heroes.

~~~~~~
To say Tony was shocked when Percy talked to him about having a new/fake/distorted identity was putting it lightly. Though it did make sense. So he put together a fake backstory for two twins. His heart did a couple giddy flips thinking that these kids were going to accept him as their dad for the mortal world.
Pepper had gained a soft, sweet smile when Tony told her. She kissed his cheek, and helped him with the story. That was probably a good thing, too, Tony thought as he erased the backstory he'd come up with.
~~~~~~

Kat and Percy both received a summons to Olympus.

Percy walked with set shoulders and a stern gaze. He arrived first, Annabeth at his side.

Kat panicked, Loki calmed her down. She gave Clint a hug before vapour traveling away. Much like Percy, her posture was straight and soldier-like, but her sparring/training with Loki had taught her how to make her steps lighter and her body less rigid.

Percy gave a heavy sigh as he addressed the Olympians. "What's going on now?"

"The Fates have called us." Hestia smiled at him.

"The Fates?" Percy blinked.

Hestia nodded. "We are waiting for one more, I do believe."

"Who?" Percy asked as he double checked all the thrones were occupied. Zeus was glaring at the brazier, not meeting anyone's gaze and attempting to look as intimidating as he had before.

Kat got confused looks as she walked through the courtyard of Olympus. Guess most gods didn't know she existed yet. She reached the huge, golden doors, took a breath, and pushed them open. They slammed shut behind her.

Percy gaped. "Kat?"

"Hey." Kat grinned at him.

Percy grinned wildly and ran over to her. She accepted the Tyson-esque hug with just as much enthusiasm. He released her, though they both still had their hands resting on their twin's shoulders. "What are you doing here?"

"Got a summons." Kat shrugged, still grinning.

"Who is this?" Hermes questioned, confused.

"Whaa?" Both Percy and Kat made the same face.

Poseidon's eyebrows scrunched so intensely that they nearly became a unibrow.

"You don't know?" They both said, in unison.

Hestia seemed to be the only one aware of what had happened to them, save for Aphrodite, who had figured it out when Kat had asked for her help. Said goddess of love walked over to them with a grin.

"Hello darling." Aphrodite greeted Kat, and gave an approving nod to the younger's wardrobe. "I told you that would look good on you."

"Yes, you did." Kat agreed.

"You two- three- know each other?" Hera asked.

"Care to explain to the rest of us who you are?" Athena added.

Kat and Percy exchanged a look. The latter spoke first. "Well, when we fought Tartarus, the Fates split my soul in half."

"And boom! You got me." Kat added.

Poseidon looked between the twins, and then glanced over to Hades. The sea god had a questioning expression on his face. Hades caught the look and shrugged.

The gods exchanged words of confusion, theories, conspiracies, and the like. Poseidon sat dumbfounded. Hades was amused at his brother, not having seen him this confused in centuries.

Eventually, Annabeth had had enough, and raised a fist into the air, demanding silence. As the gods noticed, their voices fell away. "The Fates called us here. How about we figure out what they want?"

"The time has come to recognize who they are." A voice said from behind the sofa throne. Annabeth was the only one not familiar with the three women who came around the corner, but she knew who they were in an instant. The Fates continued walking to stand in front of Percy and Annabeth's sofa.

The gods seemed to know what this meant, and they donned their formal wear. Aphrodite gave Annabeth a dress similar to the one she had worn when Percy became King. Percy sighed and changed into what he had done last time. The pair still matched.

Kat focused, and gained a dress similar in design to Annabeth's, though it was a light blue, and she had a normal cape that hung from both shoulders in the sea green. Kat's hair was done in a fishtail braid, just like when Natasha had sat her down and done it.

"Hermes, if you would do the honor." Another Fate said.

The thrones were in the smaller form. Hermes sent the call out for the other gods to come, slamming his caduceus into the ground. They whispered amongst each other as they arrived.

The fates gestured Annabeth to go sit on the throne she shared with Percy. That left Percy and Kat standing in the center of the room, the brazier having vanished. The twins exchanged a look, and determined that neither of them knew what was going on.

One of the Fates raised her hand, asking for silence, and she received it. "We are here," She spoke, her voice filling the room, "For the titles of our newest gods."

The twins exchanged a quick wide-eyed expression. Another Fate addressed the two of them in a neutral tone. "Kneel."

The twins knelt on one knee.

"We name thee," They paused, and their gazes locked with Percy's. "God of Heroes and Guardians, Keeper of the Molossus, Heir To Poseidon." They let their words resound throughout. "Rise, Perseus."

Percy rose, and a crown of imperial gold shimmered into place. The golden wreath stood in bright contrast against his raven hair and tan skin. Above his head, his godly symbol formed: Anaklusmos held upright, a hand around the hilt.

The Fates gave the moment to Percy. They let the other gods take it in, and then their gaze fell to Kat.

"We name thee," They spoke, "Goddess of the between, Keeper of the Dog of War, Heir to Neptune." Again, there was a pause. "Rise, Katha."

Kat rose, and her own imperial gold wreath stood against her features in the same way as her twin. Hers was of a finer style, less bold and bulky. The young goddess' symbol was two haladies, crossing at the hilt to make an 'x'.

"Hail the twin rulers." The Fates said.

The gods echoed their words.

A/N

Ya'll wanted the titles/domains... How about symbols too? What do ya say about that?

Also: Are Kat, Loki, and the kids adorable, or is it just me?

Am I updating often enough? If fingers could get sore from overuse, mine would be broken. So. Much. Typing.
