Teenagers

I laid in bed and stared at the ceiling. Right now I had that feeling. The one that you probably got if you watched prince Caspian- when Susan falls in love then is told she can never go back and see him. The one when you come back to reality from a dream life.

Yep, it sucked. I felt so empty. Like I wanted to cry, but it was pointless, because my tears wouldn't change a thing.

See, life has this way of making your good moments unbelievable, and your low moments rock bottom. It felt the same as the first time I came back home- pointless.

My mom was gone shopping or whatever, so I just did whatever.

Everything was as quiet as could be, until I heard rapping on my window.

I screamed as I saw a face. Then I recognized it.
I ran to the window and opened it.

"Charlie! What the heck are you doing?"

"Just like old times, huh?" He said.

"Why didn't you use the door?" I asked, trying not to smile.

"If your parents saw me, they would slaughter me".

I nodded. It was true.

"They're not here. Come in, you big dork", I smiled.

"Oh thank god. This is a lot harder than it was four years ago".

He climbed into my room.

"Looks the same", he noted.

Now it was time for me to be mad.

"Why are you here?" I asked.

"Oh, you know. I missed falling off of your house. Why do I think I'm here?" He asked.

"How did you know where I was?"

"You know, Peyton and I have really hit it off ever since you left", he said, Smiling.

Oh no. She didn't.

"That little traitor", I whispered.

"She couldn't help it. She was too charmed", he said.

"You really shouldn't be here", I said, looking around.

"I know", he admitted," But you know you're happy I am".

He was right. I was happy.

Then the realization hit me. He came back. He really came back.

"You came back", I whispered.

Three years ago, that was all I wanted. And now it happened.

"I really don't want myself to want you to be here", I said.

"And I hate myself for wanting to be here", he said,"I really wanted to stay away, but you know.... I.... I just...", he groaned. "Will you just shut me up already?"

I smiled and kissed him. His arms wrapped around me and he pushed me against the wall.

I heard the front door open. I tried to pull away.

"Charlie.... My.... Parents..." I said in between kisses.

"Leave With me", he begged, kissing my cheek.

"I.... I can't", I said, unconvincingly.

"But you will", he said, smiling against my neck.

I groaned. "Ugh... Sometimes I don't know whether to punch you or kiss you".

"I like the second option better", he said kissing me again.

We accidentally knocked a lamp over.

"Oh fuuuuu.....", he said.

I covered his mouth.

"Honey! Are you okay?" I heard.

"Yeah mom! I'm fine! Just fell out of bed!" I called.

"Okay! Be careful!"

I felt him smiling into my hand.

"What?" I asked.

"The funny thing it that she didn't ask any questions. Fell out of bed?"

"What? It's happened before!" I said.

"Wait here", I ordered.

I ran downstairs.

"Mom, Charl... Carly invited me to lunch. So I'll just head out..." I said, walking back up.

"Wait! Carly? I thought you guys got in a fight", she said.

I turned around. "We did.... And that is why we're meeting. To clear things up".

"Oh honey. That's great", she said.

I nodded and ran back upstairs. Charlie was looking through my diary.

"Hey! That's personal!" I said.

"Come on! You were like thirteen!" He laughed.

I sat by him and looked. "Ewww.... I literally wrote about Keith?" I asked.

He chuckled. "Wow. No wonder you had a crush on him. He gave you a two dollar box of chocolates".

"Oh shut up! And besides, it was three dollars".

I shut the diary. "Okay. My mom thinks I'm going to lunch with Carly so.... Where are we going?"

"Wait. Carly as in matchmaker Carly?" He asked.

I nodded. "Yep".

He got up. "Do I really have to go out the window?"

I nodded. He sighed and stepped out. He made it about halfway when his foot slipped and he fell.

"Charlie!" I yelled.

"Honey! Is someone up there?" I heard.

"Uuuuhhh... No. Carly just called and told me where we were eating. It's my favorite!" I yelled.

I ran downstairs. "Okay. Bye mom!"

I ran out. Charlie was still on the ground.

"Oh my gosh! Are you okay?" I asked, sitting down and placing his head on my lap.

He smiled. "Yeah. I just got the wind knocked out of me. I figured if your mom came out, id pretend I was dead".

"Wow. What a genius", I said, dropping his head.

He got up and grabbed my hand. "Come on".

I stopped before I got in the car.

"Everything okay?" He asked.

I nodded. I was just a little surprised with myself. Why had I forgiven him so easily? And without a fight?

"Remember our first date?" He asked.

"You mean the one that went terribly wrong and we ended up getting pizza and sitting out in your car?" I asked.

He nodded.

After driving a little ways, sure enough, we stopped at the pizza place where we had our first official date.

He walked in and got our pizza then came back out.

"Feels just like were teenagers again. Huh?" He asked.

"That's what I'm afraid of", I said, taking a bite of pizza.

He looked at me. "Why?"

"Because things are different now. We're not teenagers. Were adults. We've changed. It's not gonna work out".

He grabbed my hand. "We'll make it work. I promise".

"Charlie, face it. We are never going to have a normal relationship. We fight as much as we don't".

"And that's why we do it. That's what it's supposed to be. Our good times are so wonderful that they make the low times worth it".

I nodded. But I found myself questioning his words. Were the low times worth it?

"You don't think we'll last. Do you?" He asked.

"I have to be honest with you. I don't think we will", I admitted.

"And I have to be honest with you. I don't care if you hate me. I'll still chase after you. Because... Because I love you".

My eyes raced and met his. What did he say?
