Chapter Five | New Home

Nick's confusion quickly faded and the adrenaline immediately replaced it. He didn't wait to rush forward and grab the girl by her arm. She didn't fight, most likely because of shock, and followed him as he pulled her off towards a shadowed patch of bushes the two could hide in.

"Stay quiet," he quietly told her, receiving a slight nod from her. He pulled her down with him so they were tucked between bushes. The leaves were making any minuscule patch of exposed skin slightly itchy, but it was better than the fate that would await them outside of their hiding spot.

Nick watched with attentive eyes as the Wraith stalked across the open area, his eyes slowly scanning the area as he walked. Once Nick determined he was far away enough and a familiar bell rang out, he grabbed the girl's arm again and pulled her to a generator he was able to see.

One by one, generators were fixed, the girl remaining silent and eventually helping Nick with the task. Only twice were they almost caught before they ran out of the gates, clothes slight ripped and dirty and barely able to take in any air.

The redhead was the first to talk between the two.

"Where the hell am I?" She asked, eyes wide as he stared at Nick. "Where the hell am I and who the hell are you?"

Nick didn't answer her question at first, but did once he heard a sharp, but shaky, 'Hey, cabrón' from her.

"Nick," he told her. "And sorry, but I haven't the slightest clue where we are. All I know is that I don't know how you're here, I don't know who you are, and that I've been forced for months to go into those gates and see if I return."

She stared at him, slowly taking in everything he said. She seemed to slowly calm down, externally at least.

"I'm Ashlie," she said. "With an 'ie', not an 'ey'. And all I remember is that I went out to help find a friend's dog in the woods. And where the hell is my jacket?" Her voice was more hushed on her last statement.

Nick sighed. "Come on." Ashlie didn't get to protest as she was grabbed by the arm and pulled down the path. She stayed silent as the two walked up to a cabin. It was... nice. That was unsettling.

"Home sweet home," Nick told her, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

Ashlie followed as he opened the door and pulled her inside. "This is..." Nick let out a laugh. "It's nice. I know. Let's get you a room."

And so Ashlie followed him up the stairs and into the second door on the right.

Nick let out a quiet breath as she wandered in.

"Welcome to your new home."

A/N: Apologies for the shortness and the way the chapter is kind of everywhere. I really wanted to get a chapter out and I'm kind of in a bad place mentally at the moment. Sincerely Me, Addie.
