Chapter 2-Magic Mushrooms and Endless Rabbit Holes

Alissa squinted, causing her mother to laugh.  She moaned and rolled over, covering her face.

"You were so excited yesterday for some meeting, Lissa. Shouldn't you get going?"  Alissa's mom said, closing the door.  Alissa shot out of bed, wide awake.  She darted over to her drawers and pulled on torn blue jeans and a black tee, then ran to the kitchen, grabbed a slice of toast and the requested steak knife, and headed over to Alice's house, not even bothering to try to tame her curly brown mess of hair.

Alice greeted her with more of the delicious biscuits, which Alissa gladly wolfed down.  Alice giggled.

"Mind helping me move the couch?" Alice asked, already headed to the sitting room.  Alissa frowned, but followed the old woman anyways.  The two spent a good few minutes dragging the heavy piece of furniture back a few paces.  Alissa sighed in relief as they finished, wiping her brow before her gaze trailed to the large, seemingly endless, hole where the couch once was.

"The rabbit hole," Alice breathed, collapsing on the couch.  "The one way ticket into Wonderland."

"One way?" Alissa mumbled, leaning over and peering into the blackness.  Alice, though Alissa could not see, nodded and stood, smirking as she walked silently closer.

"One way.  Oh, and I think I'll take this," Alice hissed, snatching the knife out of Alissa's hand.  Alissa gasped and turned, only to have a wrinkled old hand land on her chest and shove her.  She staggered, waving her arms and barely managing not to fall down the rabbit hole.

"Well, that's no fun," Alice sighed.  "You should have fallen."

"You really are mad!" Alissa squeaked.

"Where we're going, everyone's mad," Alice grinned, tackling Alissa.  They fell, wind whipping through their ears, the light of Alice's sitting room getting smaller and smaller.

Alissa woke on a soft purple surface.  She looked to her left, not yet willing to get up.  Her eyes widened as she saw a blood red waterfall spilling out of a large tree.

"YssiM, pu teg," An old man's voice said.  Alissa slowly sat up, jaw dropping at the giant blue caterpillar smoking a hookah in front of her.

"Ta gnirats uoy era tahw?" he grumbled around the hose in his mouth.

"Terribly sorry, Mr. Caterpillar, but I can't understand what you could possibly be saying.  Perhaps if you took the hose out of your mouth...?" Alissa said politely. The caterpillar sighed and did so, laying it by his side and glaring at the girl in the corner of his eye.

"Worg ouy tfel, knirhs uoy thgir," the caterpillar growled, crawling off the side of what the two were sitting on.  Alissa sat in confusion for a moment before remembering the reason she was here, where ever "here"was. She stood and scanned the area for Alice, but could find no sign of the old woman.

Alissa sighed and stepped to the edge of the purple surface she was on.  Seeing the ground was not that far off, she slipped down onto the ground.  Curious, she looked up to see what she had woken on to find a purple mushroom, the edges torn here and there.

Alissa reached up and grabbed a piece of the mushroom, sniffing it before taking a nibble.  A strange sensation enveloped her, and she realized everything was getting smaller.  When she stopped growing, the formerly life sized mushroom was the same size as any normal mushrooms. This was truly Wonderland.
