| CHAPTER 28 |
Walking down the hallway of your university, you were lost in your thoughts, replaying what happened just a few minutes ago.
You skipped happily with a tune humming softly in your head, completely caught up in the moment. You closed your eyes for a second, and his face appeared again—dimples flashing as he smiled.
You couldn't help but chuckle to yourself, grinning widely, feeling your cheeks flush with warmth. You quickly palmed your face, letting out a small scream of excitement.
"Nini...are you okay?" You looked up and saw Jackson, your best friend, standing there with a concerned look on his face.
You quickly composed yourself, wiping the smile off your face and trying to act casual.
"Y-yes, what happened to me?" you replied, pretending nothing was wrong.
Jackson raised an eyebrow at you, clearly not buying it. He sighed, shaking his head.
"You're acting strange today, Nini..."
"Fine... Just tell me how the group studies with you... CRUSH!" Jackson suddenly gripped your shoulders and screamed it out loud.
You gasped, quickly looking around the hallway to see some students giving you curious side glances. Your face turned red with embarrassment.
Without thinking, you quickly slammed your hand over his mouth, dragging him away to the university garden.
"What the hell! Why would you scream like that?!" you hissed, glaring at him.
Jackson didn't say anything but couldn't stop his giggles from escaping. He smirked at your reaction, clearly enjoying teasing you.
"Spill the tea... gurl... I'm getting impatient here," Jackson said, as you both sat on a nearby bench.
"You know, when we were discussing our project... I saw him staring at me!"
"OH! OH! Like why this hype?" Jackson frowned, not understanding why you were so excited.
You huffed and slapped his neck playfully. He groaned and tried to soothe the pain.
"CAN YOU BELIEVE IT... MY CRUSH NOTICED ME!"
Jackson chuckled, cupping your face with both hands.
"Congrats, Nini..." he smiled genuinely, brushing your hair affectionately.
You chuckled cutely, feeling the warmth of his words.
"BUT WAIT-" He exclaimed
You suddenly looked at him, eyes wide with realization. Already knowing what was going to come
"Am I invited to your wedding?"
"You Bish!" you yelled, Jackson shrieked running away laughing loudly, with him hot on his heels.
Sitting on your bed in the dark, you tried to steady your breathing, focusing on calming your racing thoughts. The only source of light in your room was the soft glow of your phone in your hand, illuminating the darkness around you.
You stared at the recent call logs between you and Jackson, scrolling through the notifications that seemed to reflect every conversation, every moment you shared.
"Umm...hi y/n, just want to say that... can we talk?"
You listened to the voicemail from Jackson, his voice filled with hesitation, and it struck a chord deep inside you. The weight of his words lingered, making your chest tighten. You had refused to pick up his calls and ignored his texts, but hearing him like this made your heart ache.
You wanted to share everything—about today, about Namjoon, about the confusion swirling inside you. But when you reached for your phone to call him, a sudden wave of reality hit you. Things weren't the same between you two anymore. It had been two weeks since Jackson had lashed out at you, and the distance between you had grown wider with each passing day.
You felt so alone.
Sure, you had your brother, but confiding in him about the way you felt—about your ex-crush, about Jackson—it didn't feel right. He was your older brother, not the person you could talk to about things like that.
You weren't sure how to feel about Namjoon.
Should you feel flustered? Happy? Angry?
This afternoon, when Namjoon managed to make you blush, you were caught off guard. You felt butterflies in your stomach—something you hadn't felt in a long time. The same butterflies you used to get when you were a teenager, just by seeing your crush. It was a rush of emotion that both excited and confused you.
But then, one part of your mind scolded you for feeling this way, for letting these emotions resurface after everything that had happened over the years. It was as if a piece of you that you thought you had buried deep down was now crawling back to the surface. The version of you that used to blush and giggle at the smallest gestures. The version of you that was vulnerable and open to these feelings, even if they were fleeting.
After six years of building walls around yourself, it was strange to realize that Namjoon had somehow managed to mirror you, showing you a side of yourself you thought you'd lost. And that realization left you with an unsettling mix of confusion and nostalgia.
Thankfully, Namjoon didn't follow you anymore after the café. You went straight home, desperate to escape your racing thoughts.
Once inside, you lock yourself in your bedroom. With a frustrated sigh, you threw yourself onto your bed and buried your face in the pillow, letting out a muffled scream. Your mind was scolding you for being so vulnerable, for allowing those emotions to surface after all these years. Why did you let him get to you like that?
Just as you were trying to push the embarrassment aside, your phone pinged again. The sound snapped you out of your trail of thoughts, interrupting the whirlwind of emotions that had taken over your mind.
Jax:

3:00 pm, blue cafe
She stood there, a mixture of shock and a flushed red blush coloring her cheeks.
"So cute," Namjoon thought to himself, a smile tugging at his lips.
She didn't say anything and quickly stood up, rushing out of the café with urgency.
Namjoon couldn't help but chuckle silently as he watched her flustered figure disappear outside.
A little victory dance followed, and he couldn't contain his laughter.
"She blushed!" he thought, grinning to himself, feeling a sense of accomplishment.
Namjoon was lost in his own little world, smiling at the memory of her blush, when he suddenly became aware of the judgmental glares coming from behind the counter.
He stopped his victory dance, turned, and looked directly at the young barista boy with narrowed eyes.
"You!" Namjoon pointed at him, glaring hard.
The boy blinked, his innocent expression a stark contrast to Namjoon's intensity. "What?"
Namjoon's voice was low but firm as he spoke, his gaze unwavering.
"Nah, uh, young man... your cute charms aren't working on me." He paused, taking a step forward. "She's mine, got it?"
His tone was filled with a possessive edge that left no room for question.
"Y-yes sir..." the barista stammered, clearly taken aback by the intensity of Namjoon's words.
"Good," Namjoon muttered with a satisfied grin before turning and heading toward the door.
As he stepped outside the cafe, his eyes searched the streets, looking for the familiar figure he'd seen earlier. He tried to catch a glimpse of her, hoping to see her again, but she had disappeared into the crowd far too quickly.
He let out a small sigh, a smile tugging at his lips.
"Guess... we'll meet again some other day."
With that, he walked away, his mood lighter than ever. His thoughts stayed on her, and the prospect of their next encounter left him with a contented, almost triumphant feeling as he made his way home.
Soobin chuckled loudly, shaking his head as he watched Namjoon exit the cafe, walking with an air of pride. The scene had amused him, and he couldn't help but share the moment with someone who would appreciate it as much as he did.
With a grin, he pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
"Babe," he said as soon as the call connected, his voice full of excitement, "Do you know what happened today?"
'We are neither friends ......nor enemies .... we are just some strangers with memories....'
