| CHAPTER 25 |

Driving through the quiet streets of Seoul, Yoongi's mind was anything but calm. The night was serene, but his thoughts were racing. He glanced back at the small figure curled up in the backseat, his little sister, wrapped snugly in his coat, her face relaxed in peaceful sleep.

Yoongi let out a sigh of relief, grateful to see her safe and sound. He still felt the echo of panic that had hit him like a punch to the chest when he got that unexpected call. The voice on the other end had calmly informed him that she had fallen asleep in his colleague's arms. Without thinking, he'd bolted, not even bothering to grab his jacket, his only thought to get to her as quickly as possible.

Sometimes, he wondered how she could be so bold and confident, facing the world head-on without fear. His little sister, the one he'd so often brushed off as naive or too eager, had grown into someone strong, someone he could respect—even if he rarely acknowledged it out loud.

He had been tangled up in his own issues, barely sparing her more than a passing glance, caught up in the complexities of his own world. Their parents hadn't exactly helped, either—each of them had assigned roles in their little family kingdom: she was their father's princess, and he, his mother's prince. It had only served to deepen the distance between them.

But he was done with that. He could see now how strong she'd had to be, standing on her own, dealing with so much he had never even noticed. Better late than never, they said—and this time, he wouldn't let her face it all alone.

Yoongi's gaze flicked over to the buzzing phone beside him, the sound grating against the silence he'd settled into. He clenched his jaw, trying to ignore it at first. But the persistent noise broke through his thoughts, each ping a reminder of how little he actually knew about his sister's life now. They'd spent so many years drifting, separated by invisible walls, yet he'd never really tried to break them down.

With a sigh, he picked up the phone from her bag. He didn't want to invade her privacy, but he also didn't want to miss something important. Holding it carefully, he glanced at the screen, uncertain what he might find.

at last, I frustratedly opened y/n's bag and took out the phone

Yoongi dragged down the notification tray to silence the buzzing phone, but a few text messages immediately caught his eye.

Jax:
Y/N... Nini, please talk with me... I'm really sorry. At least give me a chance to explain.

'Chance to explain...?!'

'Are these best buddies fighting right now?'

He continued scrolling through the messages when another one popped up:

012xxxx445:
Listen here, you... world activist... This is the last warning to leave the case of Byun Baekho. Otherwise, next time, the dead bodies of your family members will be delivered to you.

'My sister is getting threatened?!'

Feeling his pulse quicken, Yoongi scrolled further, finding even more unread messages.

Yoongi carefully placed her phone back in her bag.

'She and her best friend are having a rough patch... she's getting threatened... just how much weight is she carrying on her shoulders?'

He was lost in thought, glancing back at her peacefully sleeping face, a small pout on her lips.

'She's a real fighter... don't worry, Nini. Your older brothers got your back.'

After reaching home, Yoongi gently laid you on your bed, carefully tucking the blankets around you. He brushed a few stray strands of hair from your face, his fingers lingering as he looked at you with a mix of sadness and affection.

He bent down, pressing a soft kiss on your forehead.

"Please, let me help carry some of this weight, Y/N... stop dealing with everything on your own," he whispered, his voice thick with worry.

He watched you for a few more moments, his heart heavy with the thought of how much you'd been enduring alone. Finally, with a deep sigh, he straightened up, taking one last, long look at your peaceful expression before heading to his own room.

"I'll be here for you," he murmured under his breath, making a silent promise to protect you, no matter what lay ahead.

As morning light filtered through the kitchen, Yoongi was already up, making coffee and quietly preparing himself for the conversation he'd been waiting to have with you. He'd risen early, mind still heavy with everything he'd uncovered the night before.

After nearly an hour, the sound of heels clicking on the hardwood signaled your arrival. Yoongi glanced up, meeting your eyes directly. His expression was unreadable, yet his gaze held a seriousness that made your heart beat a little faster.

You swallowed, sensing the weight of what he was about to ask. Trying to steady your nerves, you moved to sit across from him at the dining table, wrapping your hands around the warmth of the coffee mug he'd placed in front of you.

A tense silence hung in the air for a moment. Finally, Yoongi broke it, his voice calm yet firm. "We need to talk, Y/N. About the drinks especially"

"Yesterday was a stressful day Brother" you replied calmly

"I don't think that was the only reason" He interrupted you shocking you to core.

You took a deep breath, feeling his gaze steady and unwavering. "I... well, no, that wasn't the only reason." You hesitated, unsure how much to share, but his piercing look made it clear he wasn't letting this go easily.

"Brother, there's... there's a lot going on." You struggled to find the right words, glancing down at your fingers that were now tightly twisted together. "The Byun case, it's more complicated than I expected. There's been... pressure to drop it, from people outside the court."

"Pressure?" he pressed, his voice firmer now. "What kind of pressure, Y/N?"

You bit your lip, debating whether to tell him everything. "I've been getting threats. They're telling me to drop the case or... or else." You looked up at him, meeting his concerned eyes. "I didn't want to worry anyone, especially you."

Yoongi's expression shifted to a mixture of worry and frustration. "So you were planning to just handle this on your own?" he asked, his tone gentle but hurt. "Do you really think I'd let you face this alone?"

"I didn't want to drag you into it. This is my mess," you whispered, trying to keep your composure.

But Yoongi reached across the table, placing a reassuring hand over yours. "It's not just your mess, Y/N. It's ours. You're my sister, and I'm not about to let you take all of this on yourself. We'll figure it out together."

He stared at you in way you knew you needed to explain more.

"Th-then I went to the beach to clear my mind when my old friend... Namjoon came there, and we talked about old times... I didn't realize when I fell asleep."

"Exactly?!... You fell asleep while talking to a stranger... well, an 'old friend'?!" Yoongi snapped at you, and you instinctively looked down.

"Do you have any idea... what would have happened to you if that Namjoon guy was not a good person?!" His eyes grew colder, and the worry in them intensified.

"I'm s-sorry, brother..."

His eyes softened when he heard you whisper. "I know you're sorry... but next time, I don't want anything like that to happen again." He stared at you, waiting for you to nod in agreement.

You nodded and took a sip of your coffee.

"This coffee's really good, by the way..." you commented, glancing at your brother, only to find him still staring at you.

"Wh-what?" you stuttered, feeling the weight of his gaze.

Yoongi sighed before asking, "What happened to Jackson lately? He hasn't been around much."

You hesitated, unsure whether to open up about it or not.

"U-uh... We... had a disagreement."

Yoongi raised an eyebrow, clearly waiting for more details.

"And that disagreement is...?"

You paused, fidgeting nervously, then quietly responded, "It's not that important. Just a small fight... We'll figure it out, hopefully." You whispered the last part to yourself, unsure if you truly believed it.

"Y/n... Are you sure about that?" Yoongi's voice softened, sensing there was more to it than you were letting on.

"Yes, brother, I'm sure. It's just a simple fight like every best friend has," you said, trying to sound convincing.

Yoongi studied your nervous and tense expression for a moment before deciding not to press further.

'I'll ask her some other day... I guess...' he thought, deciding to let it go—for now.

"Okay," he said, standing up and placing his empty cup on the table.

"Make sure to let me know if things with Jackson get any worse, got it?" he said, his voice firm but caring. You stood up as well, meeting his gaze.

"And never hide anything from me," he added, cupping your face with both hands. You nodded obediently, looking like a child, which made him smile softly.

He kissed your forehead gently, then grabbed his coat and bag. "I'll see you later," he said, waving as he headed toward the door.

As he left, you let out a sigh of relief.

'Phew... that was scary.' You thought to yourself, feeling the weight of the conversation lift off your shoulders.

You didn't have your car so you had to board a cab to go to your office.

As the Uber drove through the city, you leaned back in the seat, trying to clear your mind. The soft hum of the engine was calming, but the thought of yesterday's events kept playing in your head.

Kim Namjoon: Hope you slept well.

You froze for a second, staring at the message. A wave of embarrassment washed over you. Gosh, I completely forgot about how embarrassing I was yesterday with Namjoon.

Your fingers hovered over your phone, but you couldn't bring yourself to reply. You knew you should at least acknowledge his message, but the awkwardness from everything that happened yesterday made it feel too difficult.

You ended up leaving him on read, unsure of what to say or even if you should say anything at all. The silence felt easier for now.

You walked into your cabin, your mind swirling with a thousand thoughts. You froze at the sight of a figure casually playing with your paperweight on the desk.

"Umm... who are you?" you asked cautiously, sizing him up. His appearance was neat, but his confident demeanor left you uncertain.

"Hello, Miss Min," he said with a warm smile, looking up at you. "I'm Jung Hoseok, and I heard you're in need of a detective."
