| CHAPTER 13 |

Sunday arrived, and it was a bright, sunny day, perfectly reflecting your mood.

Today was special — you were going to meet Hyun Sir after so long. The thought of seeing him brought a smile to your face, a sense of nostalgia filling your heart. You could already picture his warm, fatherly smile and hear his hearty laughter. The fact that he had personally invited you made it even more meaningful.

But there was also that nagging annoyance in the back of your mind — because you knew Namjoon would be there too. Just the thought of him was enough to dampen your excitement slightly.

Still, you refused to let that ruin your day. You chose something modest yet elegant to wear, wanting to make a good impression on Hyun Sir. As you headed downstairs, you took a deep breath, trying to shake off the lingering frustration and focus on the reunion with your favorite professor.

Your older brother had come home very late last night, so you knew he must be fast asleep by now. Still, you decided to take the risk of waking him up. You tiptoed down the hallway and carefully pushed open the door to his room, peeking inside. The room was dimly lit by the soft glow of the morning light slipping through the curtains.

Yoongi was sprawled across his bed, clearly exhausted, his hair messily covering part of his face. You hesitated for a moment, knowing how much he valued his sleep, especially after a long day. But today was different — you needed his advice, his support, or maybe just a quick word before heading out.

Quietly, you moved closer to the bed, wondering if this was a terrible idea to wake him up.

You glanced at Yoongi, noting how he looked even more intimidating with his bedhead and groggy expression. His obsession with black extended to every corner of his room, from the dark sheets to the black curtains that barely let the morning light in. Despite his sleepy demeanor, you knew the protective side of him would soon emerge.

"Oppa, I'm going to lunch," you said softly, already anticipating his reaction.

"Hmm... where and with whom?" Yoongi's eyes snapped open, and in an instant, he was sitting up, protective brother mode fully activated.

"My professor, Mr. Hyun," you replied, trying to sound casual as you watched him process the information.

His eyes narrowed slightly, scanning your outfit as if assessing whether it was suitable for this 'lunch with a professor' or something more.

"You sure it's just a professor?" Yoongi's voice had a suspicious edge, his protective nature kicking in hard.

"Yes, oppa," you sighed, "it's Mr. Kim Soo-Hyun, my law professor, remember? He invited me for lunch." You smiled reassuringly, hoping that would be enough to put him at ease.

Yoongi rubbed his face, still half-asleep but awake enough to give you a look that said he wasn't fully convinced.

Yoongi nodded again, still rubbing the sleep from his face, his messy hair sticking out in all directions.

"Alright," he mumbled, clearly still half-asleep, but there was that protective edge in his voice.

"You should sleep, oppa. You came home late last night," you repeated softly, smiling at how cute he looked with his groggy expression.

"Should I drop you?" he offered, his voice low but filled with concern.

"No need, oppa. I'll drive," you reassured him, your smile widening as he managed a small one in return.

"Just wanted to let you know. I'll be back in two or three hours."

"Okay," he muttered, his eyelids already heavy as he sank back into the comfort of his bed.

You were about to turn and leave but, he called you, you turned and saw him gesturing you to come closer to his bed

You smiled as Yoongi kissed your forehead, his protective instincts giving way to a rare moment of warmth. His sleepy expression softened into something gentle, and for a second, he wasn't the stern older brother, but someone who cared deeply.

"Now go," he said, his voice still husky from sleep but calm.

"Thanks, oppa," you whispered, feeling a sense of comfort wash over you. Even though you hadn't told him about Namjoon being there, you knew he trusted you.

As you stood up, you gave him one last look. Yoongi had already slumped back down onto the bed, his eyes half-closed, ready to drift back into his much-needed sleep.

You quietly left his room, feeling lighter.

Now, it was time to face the day—and Namjoon.

Namjoon's excitement was palpable as he glanced at the clock and then at his brother, still lounging in casual clothes. The anticipation for lunch with Y/N had been building up for a week, and today was finally the day.

"Do you all understand?" Namjoon instructed the chefs, making sure that everything was perfect for the occasion. The kitchen staff nodded; their faces set with determination to create a meal worthy of the special guest.

"Hyung, are you seriously still in those clothes?" Namjoon asked, frustration creeping into his voice as he noticed his brother's casual attire. "We have a guest today!"

Namjoon's brother, looking both confused and nonchalant, shrugged. "Namjoon, who's coming today?"

"One of my special colleagues," Namjoon said, a hint of pride in his voice. "She's very important to me."

"Oh... okay," his brother replied, still not entirely grasping the significance of the event.

Just then, Namjoon's father walked in, dressed in his formal outfit and ready for the occasion. "Namjoon, I'm ready," his father said with a smile.

Namjoon was about to respond when the doorbell rang, causing his heart to skip a beat. He quickly turned to his father, a mix of nerves and excitement in his eyes.

"I'll get it," he said, making his way to the front door.

Namjoon's heart raced as he stood at the door; his excitement barely contained. The moment had arrived, and there she was.

The door swung open, and there she stood, an image of grace and elegance. Her long hair framed her face perfectly, and the black dress she wore hugged her figure in a way that left him momentarily speechless. She looked like an angel, her smile only enhancing her beauty.

Namjoon found himself momentarily dazed, unable to tear his eyes away. The magical moment seemed to stretch as he took in her presence.

Suddenly, her fingers snapped, bringing him back to reality.

"Oh—oh hey," Namjoon stammered, trying to regain his composure.

Her smile widened, and she greeted him with a warm "Hello."

Namjoon's heart fluttered. He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself as he gestured for her to come in. "Please, come in. We've been expecting you."

He led her inside, eager to make her feel as welcome as possible.

Namjoon watched with a smile as she entered, her eyes wide with curiosity as she took in the surroundings. The light seemed to dance in her eyes, making them sparkle like rare gems.

"Come inside," Namjoon said, stepping aside to let her enter.

She moved gracefully through the door, her presence lighting up the room. Namjoon couldn't help but admire how she seemed to brighten the space just by being there.

As they approached the living area, Namjoon's father appeared, his face lighting up with recognition and joy. "Warm greetings, Y/Nie," he said warmly.

Her face broke into a radiant smile as she bowed slightly. "Warm greetings, sir."

To Namjoon's surprise, his father pulled her into an unexpected hug. "Drop the act, y/n. I know you."

She laughed softly, returning the hug with genuine affection. "How are you, Hyun Sir?" she asked, her voice filled with warmth.

Namjoon noticed how her smile seemed even more beautiful and genuine today, a stark contrast to the distant demeanor she'd had in their previous encounters. It was clear that seeing his father had brought out a side of her that had been hidden away for too long.

Namjoon watched in stunned silence as his brother, Seokjin, and Jieun Noona made their entrance.

"Y/n?!" Seokjin exclaimed, his eyes widening in surprise as he took in the sight of her.

She turned towards him; her smile unwavering as she recognized him. "Seokjin oppa," she greeted, bowing slightly.

The use of "oppa" made Namjoon's eyebrows shoot up in surprise. How did she know Seokjin?

Seokjin, equally surprised but clearly pleased, responded warmly, "How are you, Y/Nie?"

"Fantastic, oppa," she replied, her smile bright and genuine.

Turning to Jieun Noona, who stood beside Seokjin, she offered a polite bow. "Afternoon, Mrs. Kim."

Jieun Nona's smile was gentle as she nodded in return, acknowledging the greeting with grace.

Namjoon's mind raced with questions as he tried to piece together how y/n knew his brother and why she had such an easy rapport with his family. The situation was unfolding in ways he hadn't expected, and he couldn't help but feel a mix of curiosity and intrigue about the connections between them.

"Namjoon, Jieun, she was the ultimate fan of my walnut pancakes," Seokjin said, his voice laced with pride, making everything click for Namjoon.

So, she was the one who came regularly to Jin Hyung's café

Namjoon recalled all the times his brother mentioned a regular customer—a girl who always showed up for the pancakes. Jin Hyung had always described her as kind, soft-spoken, and pleasant. Seeing her now, Namjoon realized his brother wasn't wrong.

"Seokjin oppa, I'm still a fan of your pancakes," y/n giggled, her laughter light and sweet.

Namjoon's heart fluttered at the sound, and he had to restrain himself from reaching out to squish her cheeks. She was just too adorable, and the way she was interacting so naturally with his family warmed him more than he anticipated.

In the midst of the lively conversation between Seokjin, his father, and y/n, Namjoon's attention was drawn to Jieun Noona. She stood quietly, observing the interaction with an unreadable expression. Her usual warmth was missing, and Namjoon couldn't help but wonder what was going through her mind.

The excitement around y/n was palpable, but something about Jieun's silence hung in the air like a question yet to be asked.

Namjoon watched in mild amusement as his father, with a surprisingly energetic demeanor, grabbed Y/N's wrist and guided her towards the dining table.

My father is a child sometimes, he thought with a fond, exasperated smile.

Despite the somewhat overzealous gesture, the atmosphere remained warm and welcoming. Namjoon's father, clearly excited about the lunch, was practically bouncing as he made sure everything was perfect.

The dining table was beautifully set, and the aroma of the carefully prepared dishes filled the room, adding to the inviting atmosphere. Namjoon couldn't help but feel a mix of pride and nervousness.

Y/n settled at the table with grace, exchanging pleasantries and polite conversation with the family. Namjoon observed her, noting how effortlessly she fit into the scene, her presence brightening up the room even more.

Namjoon took a seat beside y/n, his eyes subtly tracking her reactions as she interacted with his family. His father was in his element, happily explaining the dishes and making sure everything was perfect.

"Y/n, try these," his father said, enthusiastically gesturing towards a variety of dishes. "I would have made your favorite pancakes, but this dumbass didn't tell me who was coming," Jin Hyung pouted playfully.

Y/n laughed, her smile genuine and bright. "No biggie, oppa. I'm fine."

Jieun Noona, however, had a more serious demeanor as she said, "Let's start if you're finished with your family meet."

The atmosphere somewhat turned awkward on her comment, but Namjoon and his family laughed it off thinking it was her hormones speaking. Namjoon had some suspicions but he chose to focus on the conversation more.

Namjoon noticed his father's amused expression as he interacted with y/n. His father seemed to genuinely enjoy her company, and the way y/n laughed and talked animatedly about Jackson was endearing. Despite the awkwardness that hung in the air earlier, the meal seemed to be flowing smoothly.

"Ah, Jackson," Dad said with a chuckle. "Same old Jackson, huh?"

"Yes," y/n replied, "He's still bubbly as ever. Though he's more toned now, he's lost some of that chubbiness. But he's definitely still got that infectious energy."

Dad laughed heartily, clearly enjoying the anecdotes. "I remember him from back in college. Always so full of life."

Namjoon glanced at y/n, noting the ease with which she spoke and interacted with his family. It was a side of her he hadn't seen in a long time, and it reminded him of how much he missed the person she once was before everything went wrong.

As the meal continued, the tension eased, replaced by warm laughter and shared stories. Namjoon watched y/n, her genuine smile lighting up the room, and realized just how much he missed their old connection. His father's easy conversation and Jin's playful teasing made it clear that y/n had a special place in their lives. Despite the awkward start, the lunch transformed into a delightful reunion.

After lunch, my father and Hyung went into the kitchen to prepare a special dessert for Y/n, leaving me, Y/n, and Jieun Noona in the backyard.

"So where do you work, Y/n?" I couldn't quite understand why Jieun Noona was being so harsh with Y/n.

Y/n seemed taken aback by the tone of Jieun Noona. Her expression grew cold as she responded, "I'm an advocate, Mrs. Kim."

Jieun Noona's gaze narrowed, her tone icy. "Since when did you develop an interest in married men?"

Y/n's eyes widened, a mix of shock and hurt crossing her face. She took a deep breath, trying to maintain her composure. "I don't understand what you mean," she said softly, her voice betraying a hint of sadness.

Jieun Noona's harshness seemed to pierce through the sunny afternoon, casting a shadow over the peaceful scene. Namjoon, feeling the uncomfortable tension, shot a worried glance at y/n. He knew she didn't deserve this treatment and felt a pang of regret for the awkwardness of the situation.

"What are you even blabbering, Noona?" Namjoon clenched his jaw, moving to stand protectively in front of Y/N. His sister-in-law's sudden question was completely out of line. His voice was tight with irritation, eyes narrowing as he tried to make sense of her words.

Jieun crossed her arms and gave a mocking smile. "So, how do you expect me to behave with the ex-crush of my husband, huh?"

Y/N froze with Namjoon her side.

Ex-crush of Jin Hyung?!

Her mind raced. She glanced at Namjoon, whose expression was unreadable, but his protective stance didn't falter. The atmosphere thickened with tension, as if a wall had been built between them and Jieun, who seemed determined to expose old wounds.

Y/N's heart pounded. She had no idea Jin had ever seen her that way, and now it was out in the open, creating an awkward, suffocating moment.

"Stop it, Noona," Namjoon said in a low voice, barely containing his frustration. "Whatever you're implying, it's in the past."

But Jieun wasn't done. "Is it though?" she asked, eyes flicking between them with a bitter edge.

"What's happening here?!" Jin Hyung's voice rang out, sharp and filled with anger. He stepped into the backyard, eyes wide with confusion and fury as he took in the scene—Namjoon standing protectively in front of Y/N, and Jieun sitting there with a smug expression on her face.
