The World Was Wide Enough

Thomas smiled down at her and brushed a strand of her hair out of her face "I did. I love you so damn much!"

And once more their lips engaged in a fiery and passionate kiss.

Thomas leaned against the doorframe to Alessandra's room, watching his wife with a soft smile on his lips. Alessia stood by Alessandras crib and held the small child in her arms, rocking her softly and humming a lovely tune.

Alessandra was something like Alessias lifeboat. After Frances' death, Alessia held onto Alessandra dearly. She was a broken mother, she was scared, and Alessandra provided Alessia the safety that she yearned for.

Alessandra had a mix of her parents' skin tone, not too dark like Thomas' but not as light as Alessias. Her eyes were a deep blue. And she had Alessias hair color, but Thomas' locks.

Thomas slowly approached his wife, wrapping his arms around her waist as soon as he reached her and carefully pulling her close to him. Alessia leaned against his chest, Thomas then beginning to sway with his wife, watching as Alessandras eyes slowly drooped closed.

When Alessandra began breathing calmly, proving that she fell asleep, Alessia carefully laid her in her crib, placing a kiss to the girl's forehead.

Thomas smiled and kissed Alessias cheek, nuzzling face into the spot where her neck and shoulder met. Alessia closed her eyes and smiled softly, slowly turning around and wrapping her arms around Thomas, burying her face in his chest.

"Let's get to sleep, my love," Thomas whispered softly, slowly heading towards the door, still holding Alessia close to him. Alessia nodded and followed him.

Early in the morning, the couple awoke to the crying of Alessandra two doors down. Alessia groaned, having been awakened from her first good night of sleep ever since Frances had committed suicide.

She felt the bed shift beside her and heard Thomas say "I'm going to take care of her, you sleep some more."

Alessia hummed and snuggled into the blanket, taking in the scent of Thomas.

It wasn't long until Thomas returned and she almost fell asleep again, but Thomas spoke up, pulling her attention to him "Alessia, love, you should read this."

Alessia sat up and frowned at Thomas "What is it? Mail this early in the morning?"

Thomas looked at Alessia and she could already tell that he was contemplating on something. That worried her even more.

"Thomas, what is it?"

He held two letters in his hand. One of them, he handed to his wife. It was addressed to her. The name of her brother was written on top of it, showing that it was him who had sent it.

She looked up at Thomas, before she pulled the letter out of the envelope and unfolded it, beginning to read.

July 4th, 1804

This letter, my very dear Alessia, will not be delivered to you, unless I shall first have terminated my earthly career; to begin, as I humbly hope from redeeming grace and divine mercy, a happy immortality.

I believe to already know with which words you may have met me if we would have had the chance to converse one last time before my passing, but for now and ever they shall remain a mystery to me and to whoever else, as you never have been able to recite the words you speak as exact as you planned.

In all of my living years, I could have never wished for a better sister. Everything I have become is thanks to you. After our mother's death you have given me the strength to continue, even when you have struggled with it yourself. You are the strongest of women I may have ever met.

I do apologize for every mistake I have made, for every foul word I have spoken that caused you dismay. I never intended to hurt you in such a way. You have suffered enough deaths. I deeply apologize that you are now to suffer through mine.

If it shall give you at least a slight feeling of delight during this dark time, I have made up with your husband. We have many disputes to yet fight out, if I were to continue my life, but for now I accept him. I have come to notice how he does you good and I apologize once more for ever doubting you relationship.

Adieu, my dearest sister, may you continue a long and happy life. Embrace my darling niece and family for me.

Ever yours,

Alexander Hamilton

Alessia stared at the letter. She was unable to really process the words she has just read.

Looking up, she met her husband's worried gaze. Then, she spoke up, her voice nothing more than a mere whisper "Where is he?"

Thomas clenched his jaw and lowered his gaze "Get dressed, love. I shall take you there."

Alessia stood up in a trance, grabbing the first dress that came into sight out of her closet. Thankfully, it was a loose one without a corset. She got dressed, Thomas doing the same, before Thomas took her hand and walked out.

On their way out, Thomas told Sally to take care of Alessandra. Then, outside the house, they got into a carriage, after Thomas told the man where they were off to.

During the whole ride, Alessia held onto Thomas' hand tightly, praying to god that her brother was alright, that what she had just read was just some sick joke that her brother had decided to play.

When they arrived and entered the room Alexander was in, Alessia was quickly hit with the reality, that it hadn't been some sick joke. Alexander laid on a bed, staring at the ceiling. Eliza and Angelica were there.

The attention of all three turned to the door when they heard footsteps enter the room.

Slowly Alessia walked to her brother's side, staring at him with wide eyes, shock evident in them. Angelica stood up and took Alessias hand, letting her sit down in her seat. The older Schuyler sibling went to Elizas side, laying her hands on her shoulders.

And a couple of seconds later, it was just Alexander and Alessia in the room.

Alessia reached out and took her brothers hand. Tears slowly started to form in the corners of her eyes, as she asked "What did you do?"

Alexander raised his hand and laid it on Alessias cheek, brushing the tear away with a weak smile. "I was challenged to a duel. I shot at the sky. In return, Burr shot me."

Alessias eyes widened and she asked "Burr? He dueled you?"

Alexander nodded and said "It's okay, don't worry, it was my decision to give in. Please, don't cry."

Alessia let out a weak laugh "You're telling me not to cry when my little brother lies in front of me and is about to take his last breath soon? Really stupid move, Alex, really stupid move."

Alexander chuckled, but then was interrupted by violent coughing that shook his whole body. Blood trickled down the corner of his mouth.

"I love you, Al. Don't forget that," Alexander smiled. Alessia didn't like this. She felt his hand on her cheek slowly going limp, his eyes becoming hazy.

"No, Alex, don't die on me now, okay? Don't do this to me, don't leave me, please, don't leave me. You promised me you wouldn't," Alessia said, more tears beginning to roll down her cheeks.

Alexander was about to say something, but paused and began to smile as he whispered "I can see Laurens on the other side. He's with your daughter on the other side, my son is on the other side...he's with our mother on the other side..."

Alessia began to sob and laid her head on Alexanders chest. The tears have turned into waterfalls.

"No, Alex...don't do this to me...I love you, but don't leave...", Alessia pleaded, her grip tightening on his hand.

She felt Alexander move a little, and then felt him press a kiss to her head.

"They ask of you to take your time...I'm going home now, Al, okay? I'm going ho..."

The last syllables died down. And they were replaced with Alessias scream.

(Trust me, I'm crying too.)

(PS: Last chapter or something like that is up next. Sorry. But I've got a special planned.)
