We're at the assembly ground and it is so noisy. The teachers are not even doing anything to keep students quiet they are just gossiping at the back. Mtcheww.

"Good morning students" A tall bald man with thick Igbo accent mounts the stage, he's the principal.

Let me explain why there is a stage, we do assembly in a hall and there is a stage there. End of explanation.

Yeah, I'm not so good with explanations. Sorry!

"Good morning Mr Okafor" All the students reply as if they're under a spell.

"Today we will be appointing prefects and so in no particular order, they will be called out" he says.

He starts calling but I zone out till I hear him say sports prefect.

"Our sports prefect from now on will be Tyrone James"

We all clap and cheer as he mounts the stage to receive his badge.

"Assisting him will be David Samuel"

Another round of applause.

"Science laboratory prefect will be none other than Abimbola Adenuga"

We clap loudly as she mounts the stage literally glowing with pride.

"Assisting her will be Avery Adebayo"

Another round of applause.

"Our social prefect from now on will be Ayomide Adeojo"

We cheer him on as he goes on stage.

"Assisting him will be Temitope Sobowale"

We clap loudly and cheer her on.

Other positions are called out.

"Our health prefect will be Diane Kingsley"

We clap as she goes on stage.

"Assisting her will be Aisha Hassan"

Another round of applause.

"I'm so nervous" Anita whispers to me.

"Don't be, you'll be SP for sure" I say smiling at her.

"Our Assistant Senior prefect will be none other than Antonio Anita"

A loud round of applause is heard round the hall as she mounts the stage.

I wonder how she feels she really wanted to be SP but if she's not who will it be.

"Without further ado. It gives me great pleasure to say that our Senior Prefect is Aaron Adenuga.

Who is that?

Bimbo never told me she had a brother. I stare at him in awe as he climbs the stage. He's handsome words can't express this level of beauty he looks very mature for his age and I love his smile.

"Any words?" the principal asks him.

"I'm honoured to be given this responsibility and I promise that I will serve Lethbridge High to the best of my ability and make a positive mark in everyone's life for as long as I'm here. Once again thank you" he says.

His eyes are sensuous and radiant like pure diamond which captures every nerve in my mind. His body is firmly-built like a knight waiting to rescue me in his strong arms.

Seriously Naomi, are we really treading down this path again! Mental face palm.

Everybody claps and cheers loudly except me I couldn't clap or move I was too stunned by whoever that guy was.

"Nominate who you want for class captain" Mr Tunde says to the class.

"I nominate George" someone says.

"I nominate Janet"

"I nominate Roland"

"I nominate Naomi" bimbo says winking stupidly at me.

"What is the nonsense na?" I ask her in pure agony.

"I also nominate Naomi" Anita says.

"I nominate Naomi" Diane says smiling at me.

"Please we don't have time come out quickly" Mr Tunde says.

My annoying friends clap like lunatics as I walk to the front of the class.

I glare at them with all the anger I can muster up. It isn't much by the way I'm not a meanie.

The class votes by dropping the name of the person they want to win in a basket, we the nominees are allowed to vote too.

I vote George, to me he's the best for the job.

"The results are as follows"

"Roland has a total of five votes

Janet has a total of six votes

George has a total of eleven votes and

Naomi has a total of thirteen votes"

"The class captain of SS3 science is Naomi Daniels and her assistant is George Chkwudi" Mr Tunde says and a short round of applause follows.

"Have a nice day" he says then he leaves the class.

"Class captain" Bimbo says hailing me.

"Shut up jhor" I say with a playful hiss.

"I know you are happy that you won" Anita says finishing up her maths assignment.

This girl she never finishes her homework. She's always trying to complete it in the morning.

I'm not happy and I'm also not surprised, I've been such golden soul since I came here. Being so nice to every single person.

My mum always says "Being kind is good legacy to leave behind".

"This girl, why don't you ever finish your assignment" I ask Anita, sitting on the table in front of her.

I don't know why but I just have a fetish for sitting on desks. I mean, who doesn't?

"Man must sleep" she says not looking up.

"Man must watch Netflix too se?" Bimbo asks.

"For sure na" she answers with a coy smile.

"Ode" I say with a loud hiss.

"I hope it's not me you are hissing at?" Anita asks.

"Even if it's you what can you do?"

"Your mouth is too sharp" she says attempting to slap me but I dodge it immediately.

I notice the name on the book she's doing her homework from and my tummy does a backflip. Yes my tummy is very good at gymnastics.

Aaron Adenuga.

"Bimbo you never told me you had a brother" I say and she looks up at me immediately.

"I don't have a brother, I do sha but he's not in Nigeria"

"Mumu, she's talking about Aaron" Anita says shaking her head and Bimbo sticks her tongue out.

God, she's a child at heart.

"Oh him he's not my brother, he's my cousin" she says.

"Oh".

I didn't talk to him all through yesterday and he didn't talk to me either, not that I cared. I was happy admiring him from afar. He still hasn't come to school. I guess he's a late comer like Bimbo but she has been coming early these days.

"Look who has finally come to school" Anita says pointing at the door.

"Late comer" Bimbo calls as he approached us.

"Yes love" he answers as he sits down on the table beside me.

I think my heart skipped a couple of beats. He's so close, if I moved just a little our shoulders would have been touching if I were tall enough.

"You are falling for him, are you forgetting previous happenings already" that little voice in my head mocks.

I'm not falling, I'm just admiring God's good creation

"Sure, that's how it starts"

I'm not weird okay, I just have a little voice in my head that talks to me. Totally normal.

"How are you SP sef? You lack all the qualities" Anita says.

Oh mehn, she's been so irritable since the announcement of prefect positions. I feel bad for her family at home.

"But I possess the qualities to make them chose me over you" he says smirking at her.

"That was mean" Bimbo says.

"I know" he says smiling at her and she replies with an ear piercing hiss.

"I don't care what you say, it was sha a mistake" Anita says.

"You are acting like a sore loser love" he quips flicking her forehead.

They must be close because normal Anita, if you touch her she'll para for you anyhow.

The bell rings to signify end of the period, we had first period free because none of us do geography.

"What do we have now?" Aaron asks.

"We have physics" Bimbo answers.

I'm 100% sure she memorized our time table.

"I hate physics" Aaron grumbles banging his hand against the table.

I feel your pain dude, physics na killer.

"You hate everything concerning education" Anita says.

"And I still pass you and I've been coming first position since JSS1" he says slyly.

She doesn't say anything, she just grabs her books and storms out of the class.

"E pain am oo" Bimbo says with a chuckle.

"E don they pain am since morning" Aaron says laughing with her.

I laugh to myself as I get my book from under my desk.

"Let's go to class"

It takes me minute before I realise he's talking to me.

"Uhm, yeah sure. Let me just get my books and writing materials of course" I ramble on avoiding eye contact.

When I look up, he's looking down at me and smiling in amusement before walking out with Bimbo.

Oh wow. I'm funny to you.

I follow him and Bimbo without a reply, with only one thing on my mind. He noticed me.

I had further maths as my second to the last period and luckily my last period is free. I just realized that all my last periods are free except Mondays.

I know it's weird that I take further maths but I love the subject, so I wasn't surprised when I found out that I was the only student in SS3 taking it at least I thought I was, you can imagine my surprise when I found out that Aaron also takes further maths.

I also found out that he's really smart and I love smart guys.

Everyone in our class has gone out for free period, I'm the only one here. Aaron has not arrived.

"Where is Aaron?" Mr Segun asks as he enters the class.

Oh yes, please ask me! I am Aaron's guardian angel and I know his every move.

"I don't know sir" I answer as I get my note from under my locker.

"We'll start the class without him then" he says then he goes over to board and starts writing.

Aaron finally walks into class after eleven minutes but he doesn't seem to care that he's late.

Osheyyy, I thought this guy was SP isn't he meant to be porcelain perfect.

He takes a seat beside me. I could stare at him all day long but I must not develop feelings and I'm trying really hard not to. I'm happy it's just us here, so I can stare at him without disturbance.

I was caught during break by Tyrone and Temi and they would not let me rest. I had to leave break early so I wouldn't die of embarrassment.

"Where have you been?" Mr Segun asks him.

"In school obviously" he answers as he writes down his notes.

Hashtag savage replies.

"Let me rephrase my question, why are you late to my class?" Mr Tunde probes, obviously annoyed.

"Nothing really, I just didn't feel like coming" he shrugs, it's so obvious that he's lying I think something held him up.

"I'm going to give you extra assignment as punishment" Mr Tunde says in an end of discussion voice.

I hear Aaron mutter some words, I couldn't decipher anything that he said.

"Your eyes are going to set me on fire" Aron whispers to me.

"Hmm?" I ask feeling confused.

"I said your eyes are going to set me on fire, your stare is too intense" he says looking at me in a funny way as if he found me amusing.

God I don turn to laughing matter. Every time smiling at me in amusement.

I don't say anything but from the corner of my eye I see him smiling but it's a confused type of smile.

"You've been staring at me all day, do I look familiar" he ask me.

"Nope"

"So I'm just good looking"

I hiss inwardly, keep deceiving yourself except he wasn't, he was really good looking.

"Maybe"

"What's with the one word answers?"

Is it your mouth?

"Nothing"

He doesn't reply, I turn to see him looking at the board. I follow the direction of his eyes and see he's looking at the assignment. Mr Tunde gave us a whole exercise which has twenty five questions and gave Aaron an extra exercise as his punishment.

"I'm going to drop further math"

"At least you can" Aaron mumbles facing me.

"Why can't you?"

"I have plans to study engineering, it's a major subject"

"Eyah" I say patting his shoulder.

I touched his shoulder, my hand is on fire right now. Somebody call the fire department.

"Let's go and join them in art class"

"Sure"

We walk to the class engaging in small talk, he asked me my opinions on everyone, I told him sincerely what I thought about everyone. He asked about teachers, school environment and the food and I tried my best to give sincere answers.

"See the way they are walking in like one couple" Temi hollers as we walk in.

"They are a soon to be couple" Ayo says as we sit with them.

"I approve the relationship" Bimbo says smiling.

"What is your own? Why is it your job to approve?" Tyrone asks her.

"Should it be your own job?" Anita snaps at him.

"Was I talking to you?" he snaps right back.

These two, I can't imagine only two of them in a room for more than a second.

"Nope, I just felt like doing amebo" she says.

"Well, it is my job because I'm the closest thing he has to a sister. Before any girl gets to him she must pass through me" Bimbo brags.

"Guy is she serious?" Ayo asks Aaron.

"We never talked about it but sure if that's what she wants, I don't have a problem" he says.

"I see Naomi has gotten over her staring problem" Anita jeers and every one laughs while I shoot her a glare.

"But seriously babe, if eyes could rape you would have raped my guy countless times today" Ayo croaks out in between his fits of laughter.

I groan in embarrassment. Why did my staring have to be so obvious, I feel like such a fool.

Because you are, you just met him and you are just melting. Your whole body was just shaking as he was talking to you.

For the first time, I agree with that little voice in my head I am a fool.
