Bhuvi's friends
They entered the hotel and found a young girl and boy sitting in wait for them at the reception.
Payal shrieked in extreme delight and threw her arms around Bhuvi, who would've fallen backwards if Shikhar hadn't steadied him.
"Weren't you surprised to get our message Bhuvi?" she screamed. "Aren't you happy to see us!"
Virat and Rohit exchanged a glance, their fight over the cat forgotten.
"Yes, of course I am," said Bhuvi, sounding slightly strangled as he freed himself from her arms and Sunny embraced him more sanely.
"My--my team," said Bhuvi, indicating towards his friends scattered around him, though it was sort of obvious.
"Hi Jazz," said Payal, batting her lashes at a horrified Jassi.
"Hi," said Jassi, the nice guy as always.
Rohit and Virat exchanged another glance.
"He's not Jazz," said Hardik, annoyed that a pretty girl should greet his uncool friend before him. "Everyone calls him Jassi!"
"Oh, but Jazz sounds so much...cuter," simpered Payal.
Virat was about to say 'it damn well doesn't' but Jinks looked at him. Don't judge her so quickly.
Sunny happened to catch sight of Jaddu's watch.
"Say, is that a Blancpain?" he asked, his eyes gleaming.
Jaddu took a good look at his wrist.
"Oh no," he says smoothly. "I got it from the blacksmith next door in Jamnagar."
"Oh," said Sunny, looking almost disappointed.
Jinks saw Rohit and Virat exchanging yet another glance.
Bhuvi was looking distinctly strained.
"We'll go and check into our rooms, do you two mind waiting here for a bit?" he said.
"No, no, we thought we'd take rooms here too for the next couple of days till you're here!" said Payal brightly.
"Sure, nice idea," said Bhuvi half-heartedly, starting to drag his suitcase across the lobby. "Hardik!" he snapped at Hardik, who had been pouring tea in a very smooth line down the leaves of a potted plant just to see how smooth he could get. "Leave that plant alone and come up and get changed!"
Hardik jumped at the tone, but for a wonder, didn't protest and followed Bhuvi without a word.
"Aren't you coming too, Jazz?" asked Payal sweetly.
"No, he's going out with Jaddu and Rahul," said Bhuvi quickly.
He disappeared with Hardik, Payal and Sunny.
"What's wrong with him?" asked Virat, concerned.
"What was wrong with you in the bus?" countered Yuzi.
"That's not the point, Yuzi," said Jassi, both to defend Virat bhaiya and because he was concerned about Bhuvi bhaiya. "Bhuvi bhaiya seemed quite upset!"
"And I do not like these friends of his," said Rohit firmly.
"Hmmmmmmmm," said Jaddu thoughtfully.
"You're supposed to go out with Rahul and Jassi!" said Shikhar.
"Oh, yes," said Jaddu, brightening. He started dumping his and the two kids' luggage over Rohit's. "You keep these safe!"
"I'll throw yours out," said Rohit.
"I'm not going out with Jaddu!" said Rahul vehemently, looking at Jassi for support.
"I think we should stay with Bhuvi bhaiya," said Jassi to Virat.
"And have Payal making eyes at you all through dinner," snorted Jaddu.
Jassi's face flushed as everyone started cracking up at that, and he told Rahul crankily, "Come on, we're going!"
Rahul couldn't very well free his arms from Jassi's grip, because completely against his nature, Jassi was strong, and Jaddu winked at the others and followed them out.
"I think we're judging Sunny and Payal too harshly," said Jinks vaguely.
But even he couldn't say he really liked the pair a bit.
**********
Sunny and Payal were sitting on either sides of Bhuvi at dinner.
Payal kept badgering him loudly about when 'Jazz' would return. Though Bhuvi answered her with typical Bhuvi-niceness, his friends couldn't help noticing the crease in his forehead, and the clench in his jaw which never appeared while dealing with Hardik's stupid antics.
Sunny, who was chatting with Virat, was apparently exceedingly knowledgeable about anything luxurious and expensive--Virat's perfume, the gold tinged glass, the chandelier above their head, the marble beneath their feet... and pretty much everything.
Before long, Virat found himself heartily wishing that Jaddu was here to start launching one of his Jamnagar stories, which would consist of the cheapest, most insignificant things like cows and owl nests, and would wind up being considerably more interesting than Sunny's stories.
Finally, when the need of a fresh breath of air became too much, Virat excused himself, saying, "I need to make a call."
He fled before Sunny could start commenting on his phone, or maybe it's cover.
Noticing Sunny turning towards him, Rohit swiftly shot to his feet and followed Virat, murmuring, "So do I!"
Jinks snorted into his glass of water, and that set Yuzi and Hardik off, and that set Shikhar off, and even Kuldeep couldn't hold back as the team howled with typical ICT laughter.
Payal and Sunny looked flummoxed.
Looking at Bhuvi's expression, Jinks tried his best to stop, and that led to a violent coughing fit.
Hardik banged Jinks on the back.
"You need my Patanjali medicine immediately!" said Shikhar, utterly concerned.
"No I don't," retorted Jinks.
Bhuvi's lips twitched.
It was absolutely impossible to stay sober with these set of idiots.
**********
Rohit found Virat jabbering excitedly into his phone.
"--and then they started shouting so loudly, Mahi bhai, and I shouted 'QUIET' with so much dignity that they all had to listen to me. Then Jaddu attempted to restart the chaos and I shut them all up once again. They listened to me just like they listen to you... Mahi bhai, I wish you were here to see me, I'm becoming almost as good as you!"
Rohit could hear Mahi bhai's indulgent voice saying, "Very good, Cheeku, keep it up." He could also imagine Mahi bhai rolling his eyes as he said this, which apparently Virat was oblivious to.
Virat noticed Rohit studying him just then.
"And I supposed you didn't happen to tell Mahi bhai, Cheeku, that you left a cat out in the main road to--" began Rohit loudly.
"Silence!" ordered Virat.
Rohit stopped speaking on instinct, and it had nothing to do with Virat's command, but Virat grabbed the opportunity with both hands and said, "Look, Mahi bhai, look! I shut Rohit up!"
Mahi bhai started to laugh, and Virat's actions were so ridiculous that instead of retorting 'No you didn't', Rohit started to laugh as well.
"Idiot," muttered Rohit, when they had stopped laughing, and darted back inside to listen to Sunny's stories before Virat could start again.
