Chapter Two
After calming everyone down about the lack of spacesuits, Sageleap was absolutely ready to land and get away from these other cats. Luckily, they should land in a few hours. Maybe he should tell them, but for now he just wanted peace and quiet. And then Fallowstripe walked up to him.
"Uh, captain, when will we land? This lack of atmosphere is bad for my plants."
"Around four hours. Why did you even bring twelve thousand plants with you, anyway? Isn't that kind of stupid?"
Fallowstripe glared at him. "Because I love my plants and my mother refused to care for them while I'm gone."
"K then, I should probably announce our landing time to everyone else. Cats! I'm calling a meeting! Come listen!" Sageleap hadn't exactly developed an ability to get everyone's attention. It wasn't something he was good at and he didn't like talking in front of large groups if cats. Oh well, if he wanted to do this, he'd have to get used to it.
The crew arrived slowly, one cat at a time. Seriously, it seemed to take forever. But that was more time for Sageleap to prepare what he was going to say, and therefore he did not care.
"Fernfrost, don't carry an open umbrella indoors, it's bad luck." he called to the she-cat, who was carrying a rainbow umbrella around for some reason. She obediently collapsed it and put it in her belt.
Everyone was staring at him. He tried to push it out of his mind, he tried so hard. But he just couldn't. Panic is by no means a fun experience. It's hard to breathe, your head is spinning. The shaking of his paws was noticeable, he was sure. But he would power though it, he had too. He stood up to address the group of cats.
"We should be landing in about four hours." he managed to sputter out. It was hard, it wasn't fancy and elegant like he had pictured. Maybe he wouldn't make a good leader. Maybe this job wasn't for him.
Cedarflame was the first to say something. "Hey, they said this trip would take half the time of the last one. The last one took fourteen hours. We've been in here three hours and forty-five minutes. We are forty-five minutes late, and I will have them know."
Fernfrost batted at his head with her paw.
~~~
Greenface felt lonely. No, he didn't just feel lonely, he was lonely. And as he sat on his bunk playing a game of solitaire, Shadepelt was the only thing on his mind.
"Hey," said a soft female voice. Feathershine. "what're you doing? Ohhh, cards! I'll have you know that I can play a mean hand of Crazy 8's. Want to play?"
"No, I want Shadepelt." he replied, scattering the cards across his bed. "She didn't want me to come, you know. She wanted me to stay with her, for us to act like a normal couple. That I wouldn't enjoy going into space again. And hey, maybe she was right. I obviously don't belong up here, with all my vomiting. Oh, Feathershine, this isn't any of your business and I don't know why I'm telling you."
The silver she-cat observed him for a few seconds. "It's alright, I used to work in a counselor's office, you know? I had cats come and talk to me like this a lot. I'm used to being an emotional dumping ground."
"But it's not fair to you! You listen to everyone else, but no one listens to you. Why don't you ever say anything."
"Because listening is what I'm good at. If I talk, I ruin it. I can't use words to express how I feel. But I can listen until the world falls apart, or hey, even the universe, since we're not on the world anymore." She laughed at her own joke and began picking up the mess of cards. "So, do you want to play or not?"
"Sure, why not."
This chapter was written by Sushi, who has made a comeback! I'm also lowkey shipping Greenface and Feathershine shhhhhhh
