Chapter 4
I was slumped on the old couch with Lapis sleeping in my lap while we watched Camp Pining Hearts. I kept mentally screeching obsessive rants about my OTP in my head, watching as Percy and Paulette flirted with each other. My phone then buzzed, and I quickly looked down to make sure it didn't wake Lapis. To my relief, she remained sound asleep, softly snoring. I picked up the phone and tapped on the notification - it was a text message from Amethyst?
Amethyst: Whaddup Peri :D
Amethyst: wanna go hang at the big donut later?
Amethyst wants to hang out with me? A Crystal Gem just asked to hang out at the Big Donut?! This had to be a trap, I thought as I stared at the text message blankly. What if I end up getting jumped like Lapis did? I didn't really trust it, but I decided to reply.
Peridot: Why me? -__-
Peridot: Can't u take Pearl or something?
Amethyst: Nah dude, I wanna get to know u :)
Amethyst: U seem cool
Peridot: The Big Donut?
Amethyst: Just me and u
Peridot: You and I*
Amethyst: Great! seeya at 4
Peridot: I never said that I was gonna go
Peridot: Amethyst?
Peridot: Amethyst.
Peridot: Hello?
Peridot: .....
I groaned, putting my phone down and placing my hand back on Lapis's back where it was previously. Maybe I just won't show up. Yeah...then they can't beat me up! haHA! Wait....what if it's legit though? I don't wanna get on the Crystal Gem's bad side. Hm. I sat there debating with myself for at least 45 minutes, until I finally came to a conclusion - I was gonna go. BUT I'm bringing Lapis with me. Wait...is that weird? I mean Amethyst already knows that we're dating...So I decided that I was going, but I was taking my pocketknife, gun, and a secret weapon with me.
....
3:37 PM
"Peridot it's just a meet-up with Amethyst. I dunno what the hell you're taking a baseball bat for." Lapis deadpanned, sitting at the table across from me, swishing the wine around in her glass. "How do you know that she isn't tricking me like Pearl tricked you?" I inquired, twirling the bat in my hand. "Good point. But I'd like to point out that the last time you had a bat in your hands didn't have the best outcome." she replied, taking a sip.
I winced, recalling the horrific scene. "That was different...this could be multiple people and the bat might not even protect me enough." I protested. "I gave you a gun. If things get outta hand, you could just take 'em all out in a few shots. A lot less messy, might I add." she said. "Nnnghh..." I looked down at the bat in my hands. "Plus...if you feel like you're in danger...you could always call me...I'll be there..." she added, giving me a small smile. I looked back up at Lapis, who was holding her hand out, signaling for me to give her the weapon. I grunted, and reluctantly handed over the bat, and she leaned it against her chair, making sure I didn't take it again.
She smirked and took another sip of her wine. "How'd you even get your hands on that? You're 17." I asked, staring at the large wine bottle beside her glass. "How I get my hands on everything else - stole it." she casually stated, staring right at me. "Can I have some?" I quietly asked, twiddling my fingers. "It'll be waiting right here for you. After your meet-up...which you're gonna be late to if you don't go soon." Lapis said, waving the bottle teasingly in front of my face.
"Ugh, okay...I love you..." I said. Lapis walked up to me and kissed my cheek. "I love you too. Have fun." she said, and with that, she disappeared upstairs with her glass of wine and baseball bat in her hands. I slipped on my leather jacket, and headed out the door, feeling my pockets to make sure I had my things.
....
After about 15 minutes of walking, I finally made it to the Big Donut building, and I walked in through the front door. I was suddenly startled by the jingling sound the door made. I heard a snicker from behind the counter and I turned around to see some scrawny teenager with a red curly undercut and freakishly large gages. "Lars, don't be rude." a familiar voice chirped from beside him and I looked to the right.
"Sadie?" I asked, raising my eyebrows in surprise. It's the girl that worked at the bar that me and Lapis went to a month or so back. "Peridot? Hey! How are you doin'?" the blonde enthusiastically asked, walking up to me from behind the counter. "I'm good, I'm good..." I replied, shoving my hands into my pockets. "Hey uh, how's Lapis? I haven't really heard much from her since the whole mystery-jump incident..." she whispered to me. "She's...pulling through. There's just been some recent changes that she's still getting used to...and she's kinda stressed at the moment..." I explained, scratching the back of my neck.
"Well...I work only a night shift at the bar now...and I work a daily shift here...so just stop by either place if you're free...and bring Lapis too." she said with a smile. "So what're you doing here in the daylight hours? I thought you guys were more of the night owls..." the blonde said, beginning to wipe the counter. "Well, I'm just here to meet someone...nothing too big." I muttered. "Oh! Well while you wait can I get you something?" Sadie asked. "Yeah I'll just have a coffee please." I stated.
"Okay it'll be right ou--" SLAM! "WHADDUP PEEPS!!" I screeched in fright at the sudden noise. I turned around quickly and spotted Amethyst marching in like she owned the place. I rolled my eyes and Lars just continued reading his playboy magazine, blasting music in his headphones. "Hello Amethyst." I greeted. "Sup Peridactyl. C'mon and sit down, dude." she abruptly sat in a random seat and waved at the chair across from her.
I plopped into the seat and rested on my elbows on the wobbly table. "So Peri. Tell me about yourself." she said, resting her chin on her hand. "Well...I like math...my mom was killed by my girlfriend's mom...I like listening to music...I've almost died at least 23 times just this year...I like aliens...I've been arrested before...and I like the color green." I listed. Amethyst looked a little disturbed at first, but then she shook it off and grinned.
"Girlfriend you say?" she purred, looking suddenly more interested than before. "Yeah." I deadpanned. "Who is this girlfriend of yours? Is it Steven's sister?" she asked. "Yes. Lapis." I confirmed, losing interest in this conversation fast. "How would you rate your guys' relationship? Does she ever get on your nerves?" she asked, and that last part got my attention. "Lapis? Ha. No way. In fact, I might actually be the one that gets on her nerves." I said, chuckling.
"And we are pretty tight right now. I'd consider our relationship pretty serious...and I don't really see an end any time soon." I explained, bragging a little bit. "Hm. But what about how mean she can be? From what I've seen, she just seems pretty salty to me." Amethyst inquired, and I furrowed my eyebrows. "Lapis is salty? What about your friend Pearl?! She's the one who has no chill." I replied, crossing my arms.
"Hey hey hey. No shade, man...so you've never considered breaking up with the heartless woman?" she asked, and I was about to open my mouth to reply, but a sound coming from outside startled us both. I got up and looked out the window, and noticed that the sound was coming from the back. Sadie and Lars looked worried, and I told them to stay in the shop. Amethyst walked out first, then I followed, and we walked all the way around to behind the building.
There were growling noises and banging and clashing sounds. Amethyst tip-toed from the behind the corner to see what it was. She then covered her mouth in horror and I stepped out to see. However, she shoved me back against the wall and looked over to where the noises were. We stayed like that for a moment, then I realized and looked down where her hands were pressed against.
"Um...Amethyst...my boobs..." I whispered. She then looked where she was pressing and stared for a bit, and it started getting really awkward. I put my hands on her wrists to shove her off, but they stayed there after a sudden voice whispers to us "What're you guys doing?" both Amethyst and I yelped. "Lapis?!" I whisper-shouted. Amethyst quickly removed her hands from my chest and put them behind her back.
"I-we-uh..it's not--" Lapis blushed and looked a little uneasy, but she shook it off and her serious expression came back."The Crystal Gems said some citizens were reporting strange noises and screaming coming from back here and we decided to check it out." Lapis whispered, pointing to the rest of the Crystal Gems behind her. "O-oh...well that's what Amethyst and I were doing too. But keep quiet. I think she saw something..." I whispered. "Guys we have to be really careful...th-there's some weird-ass creatures right there. They look like some corruptions. Freaky shit, man." Amethyst whispered in a shaky voice, and she looked like she was about to cry.
I peeked over the corner, and gasped as I caught sight of the scene. The corrupted creatures were feasting on three dead bodies laying on the ground. I covered my mouth and gagged, looking at Lapis with wide eyes. Lapis then looked over as well, and her eyes went wide and she scrunched up her nose in disgust. "Shit..." she muttered under her breath.
Lapis intertwined her fingers with mine and squeezed my hand, giving me a reassuring look. Once the creatures finally left, we all breathed out in relief. "We have to get out of here. We need a plan to catch and put an end to these things." Garnet said. We all agreed and Amethyst was silent for the most part. I then hopped onto Lapis's motorcycle and she revved the engine a few times, and I spotted Amethyst giving Lapis a cold glare.
I felt uneasy, and wrapped my arms tighter around the bluenette's waist. We then dashed off down the street back to the barn.
