Chapter 14

I waited for what felt like forever, just having to listen to Lapis's painful screams. I was crying my fucking eyes out and was starting to think that I should just do this on my own. Just as I was about to get up and try to get the door open, gunshots echoed from the main entrance, and I turned around. Flashes of light from heavy guns painted the walls and I flinched and yelped, taking cover. Screams sounded from the same place, and curses were hollered.

I assume that's the Crystal Gems arriving. I spotted Garnet running down the hall toward me with her heavy black ACR in her hands. Pearl and Amethyst followed behind, and I assumed they didn't bring Steven along. "OH THANK THE STARS YOU GUYS ARE HERE!!! WE GOTTA GET LAPIS OUTTA THERE!!!" I shouted, tears still streaming down my face. Garnet looked over at the door to the chamber Lapis was in.

First, she pounded on the door, but there was no answer. She peeked into the small window and grunted. Garnet then pulled one of those small beeping things out of her jackets - similar to the one Lapis used to bust me out of jail. She placed it onto the door and immediately yelled to get back. Amethyst, Pearl, Garnet, and I all dashed back and dove behind random objects before the room shook with a loud KABOOM. Amethyst and I were behind a large box and we slowly peeked over the edge of the box.

The doorway was blown to pieces and a burnt, slightly sizzling brim surrounded where the door previously was. We all gasped in unison as the inside of the room was now exposed, and the corrupted beasts looked over in our direction. We ducked back down behind the objects and looked at each other. Garnet reloaded her gun, Pearl took out her revolver, and Amethyst pulled out her pistol. I followed their acts and pulled out my handgun from Lapis's jacket.

"On the count of three..." Garnet whispered. "...one...two..." My heart was beating at 100 miles an hour as the beasts' footsteps came closer to our spot. "THREE!!!" I stood up quickly and pulled the trigger several times, not aiming at anything particular, just making sure I got one of the monsters. The sounds of guns were all that was heard down this hall and as the Crystal Gems continued shooting the corruptions down, I put my gun in my pocket and ran towards the doorway into the chamber.

Just as I reached the door, I managed to yell Lapis's name before I felt a large body tackle me. I looked up and a large set of sharp teeth were growling and snapping at me as I tried shoving the abomination off. I placed my hands on the beast's chest and pushed with all of my might, adding some kicking and thrashing to throw it off. The monster lifted its claw, and swooped down, slashing my cheek roughly. I grunted and ignored the sheer pain, still fighting it off. I heard the clanking and clicking of the barbed wire around Lapis moving around, as if she were trying to escape.

I assumed she was too weak to yell my name, so she squirmed and struggled to get out. I quickly dug into my pocket and pulled out my gun once again. Without a second of hesitation, I shot the monster in the face and chest at least 11 times, causing it to finally fall over with a loud thump. I exhaled, and closed my eyes, feeling my body tremble with every breath. I slowly climbed to my feet and dusted myself off. "You okay, Peridot?!" Garnet asked from across the hall. "Yeah! Y-yeah...I'm okay..." I breathed, now looking over at poor Lapis.

I ran toward her at full speed and stepped over the dead bodies, not even shocked anymore. "P-Peridot..." Lapis muttered, her voice barely a whisper. "Shhh, it's okay. I'm here. I'm gonna get you outta here, okay?" I told her, stroking her bruised cheek. Lapis looked into my eyes with her teary and bloodshot ones, and a part of me just died a little on the inside. I felt a lump in my throat as I looked around for anything I could use to cut the barbed wire.

"ONE OF YOU COME HELP ME!!" I hollered across the hall to the others. Pearl was busy helping Garnet fight off one of the monsters, so that left Amethyst shooting at a couple from afar. She glanced over at me and nodded, and not a second later, she dashed in my direction, being chased by a corruption. I shot the monster chasing after the short girl about 4 times, and took a breath. "What is it?" Amethyst asked. "I need to cut this barbed wire off of Lapis, but I can't find anything to cut it with." I explained, still looking around.

Amethyst looked over at Lapis, then down at the ground in thought. "Uh...do you have any tools or anything with you? In your jacket? Anywhere?" Amethyst asked. I felt my pockets to double-check but found none to my dismay. "Shit." I muttered, glancing around the messy room one more time. It was quite difficult to find anything really in a room covered in blood and dead bodies. Gag.

I can't believe Jasper turned out to be one of these horrid creatures. That's when it hit me - Jasper. I remember the first time Jasper was mad at me, she was forced to give me a toolbox for the drone! (Cough that I never finished cough) There was a toolbox in the utility closet, but it was on the other side of the building in the main work room. "Amethyst, I need you to do a favor for me." I said, putting my hands on Amethyst's shoulders.

Amethyst's POV:

Peridot looked into my eyes deeply with her pretty green ones. I noticed how her visor really brought out her eyes, and I felt my cheeks heat up. Her small hands gripped my shoulders tightly, and her spiky blonde hair was messier than normal - and it was adorable. "Can you do that?" Peridot asked in a serious tone of voice. I shook my head and looked back at her with an embarrassed look. "Oh-uhm can you repeat that?" I asked, feeling my face heat up even more.

Peridot's POV:

I slapped my palm against my forehead and groaned. "I need you to go get the toolbox from the utility closet in the main work room on the other side of the building. Can you do that?" I repeated with more emphasis on each word this time.  "O-oh! Totally! Yeah no problemo!" Amethyst replied, and ran in the other direction toward the large room. I rolled my eyes and turned around to look at Lapis again. "I'm so sorry, Lapis..." I said, feeling that lump in my throat come back.

Lapis just looked at me with a pained expression and squirmed her wrists and ankles at another failed attempt to break the wire. She only made it worse and tightened the wire around her limbs, pulling a strained cry from her mouth. The bluenette arched her back and groaned loudly. I felt my hands shake and my lip was quivering, so I did the most pussy move and turned around, refusing to look anymore.

More tears rushed down my face as my back remained facing Lapis, and I stared at the ground. My hand was clamped over my mouth, and the other was tangled into my hair. I heard her make more grunt and groaning noises as the clanking sound of the barbed wire kept echoing the chamber. No matter how much I didn't wanna look, I knew I had to be there for her, so I reluctantly turned around and walked up to her again.

Lapis was still conscious and breathing, but her eyes were barely open from exhaustion. I took her hand into my own, and stroked it with my thumb. When she felt my hand, she opened her eyes all the way again and looked at me. I forced a smile onto my face to try and show her that everything was going to be okay, and I spotted the ghost of a smile on her face. I softly kissed her forehead and tried to ignore the sounds of Garnet and Pearl fighting the beasts down the hall. I then felt Lapis's hand squeeze mine weakly, and I slightly squeezed back. Please hurry Amethyst...

10 minutes later...

I decided that it was taking too long and I started losing my patience. Tears were rolling down Lapis's cheeks and I could no longer watch her like this. My breathing started to pick up, and rage and anxiety started rising in my system. My fists balled up tightly, and my impulse began to take over. I snatched the wires restricting Lapis's right wrist, and started yanking it apart with all of my might, making sure not to hurt Lapis. The blades on the wire started sinking into my skin, cutting me, and I let out a pained cry.

However, I ignored the pain and the blades gave me more adrenaline to pull harder. I even felt little sparks here and there shooting down my arms, and it was hella painful. But I kept yanking, and my whimpers turned into deeper grunts and angered cries. I was now yelling at the top of my lungs as I finally tore apart the wire with my bare hands. I went straight for her other wrist, and pulled on the wire there too. I gritted my teeth and tugged as hard as I could, feeling my arms pulse.

I tore those wires apart as well, immediately going down to her ankles now. My head pounded and I screamed, feeling more sharp stabs in my hands and shocks down my wrists as I heaved. I ripped those wires apart, and did the same with the other side, aka the last set of wires. I panted heavily, looking down at my hands, which were now cut up and bruised, but I didn't care. I heard a loud crash behind me, and I turned around to see what the sound was.

It was the sound of the toolbox dropping to the floor as Amethyst stared at me in awe at my little episode. I noticed Garnet and Pearl staring at me as well, and the remainder of the beasts laying on the floor, deceased. My face heated up, and I looked back down at my damaged hands, then at the barbed wire I had literally pried apart with them. The sound of footsteps in the distance startled me, and we realized it was more gang members coming after us - probably armed.

I looked back at Lapis anxiously, and she stared back with a stunned look on her face. I held out my hand for her to take it, and she weakly moved her hand forward. She slowly stepped off from her place on the table, but clumsily staggered and almost fell. She looked down at her damaged and cut up ankles, and I realized it was gonna be unbearable to run. The footsteps got closer, and I felt myself sweating bullets, trembling.

I then used the adrenaline still left in my body to come up with a final decision. I put my hand behind Lapis's upper back and my other under her knees, lifting her up bridal-style. Lapis wrapped her arms around my neck, and I hoisted her up one more time to make sure I had a good grip on her. I then started running full speed down the hall toward the exit, yelling for Pearl, Garnet, and Amethyst to follow.

"THERE THEY ARE!!! AND THEY KILLED THE CORRUPTIONS!!!" a gang member yelled behind us, and I ran faster, panting. We reached the double doors (still unguarded, might I add) and I kicked the doors open, feeling the cool breeze of the night wash over me. I looked down at Lapis to make sure she was doing okay, and she stared back up at me, still looking a little woozy. Gunshots sounded behind us now, and I yelped in fright, almost dropping the bluenette.

"Bikes!! Now!!" Garnet yelled. I ran towards Lapis's bike and sat her on the bike first, and she grunted, trying to keep her balance. Oh shit. I realized I didn't have the step stool, and I wondered how I was gonna get back up on the motorcycle. Lapis then shakily held her hand out to me, and I looked at it in surprise. "L-Lapis, you're hurt! You can't strain your arm--" "J-just t-take it!" Lapis exclaimed in a raspy voice. I reluctantly took her hand, and she pulled me up with a loud groan, and I felt her hand tremble.

I sat down on the bike, and made sure Lapis's arms were wrapped around me tightly. The gang member burst through the doors and looked at all of us with aggression. They pulled their guns out and reloaded them, and that's when we booked it. We dashed down the street without another thought, barely dodging the bullets fired on us. I felt Lapis's head rest on my upper back and I let out a sigh, feeling grateful that we made it out of there alive.

"We're goin' home, Lapis!" I yelled over the loud rev of the engine, slightly smiling to myself. Everything's gonna be okay...
