Chapter Two: Quirk Assessment Test

A Quirk Assessment Test? Everyone thought at Mr. Aizawa's announcement. Questions and concerns began to come from multiple points, with references to the Orientation they were missing coming up. But Aizawa assured them that teachers at UA were allowed to run their classes the way they saw fit.

Joshua took it in stride. If he were honest with himself, this was much better than sitting through speeches. Plus, it would help him discover new ways to use his Quirk. Although, he would have to find out exactly what kind of tests Aizawa had in mind when it came to this assessment. They didn't have to wait long to find out what the first thing was.

"Midoriya, step forward," their homeroom teacher announced. Izuku did as instructed. "You received no combat points during the Entrance Exam, instead getting in entirely on rescue points. Your Quirk. It's volatile. And it hurts you after one use..."

"All due respect, Mr. Aizawa," Izuku interrupted the teacher. Aizawa merely raised an eyebrow, but nodded for Izuku to continue. "I've been working on my Quirk since the Entrance Exam, since it didn't develop until just before." Everyone was surprised at this revelation. Though, from what Joshua had seen and heard, a Quirk that powerful could easily destroy a child of four, when most Quirks developed. Plus, with so much still unknown about Quirks, it wasn't out of the realm of possibility.

"But I've got more control of it now," Izuku was saying. "It may not be as powerful as what I used against the 0 pointer, since that was 100% of my power. But, I can use about 5% without breaking my bones." Aizawa gave a "hmm" before motioning for Izuku to stand in the circle, before giving him a ball.

"Alright. Show me what you can do," he began. "I want you to throw that ball as far as you can using your Quirk. This is just one of eight tests to see where all of you are, and where you need to improve."

"This looks like fun!" Mina said, excited, eliciting a smile from Joshua.

"Fun, huh?" Aizawa responded. Uh oh, Joshua didn't like the tone of his voice. "How about this? The person who finishes last in the assessment faces immediate expulsion." This caused quite an uproar among the class, though it was quickly squashed by Aizawa. Once everyone had settled down, he indicated for Izuku to get on with it.

Everyone watched as green lightning began coursing around Izuku. With a look of determination, he geared his power, and sent the ball flying, a gust of wind causing everyone to shield their eyes from the dust that was kicked up. Aizawa held a device up that read the distance: 705.3 m.

Everyone was rather impressed by the display. Well. Almost everyone.

"Deku! You bastard! How in the Hell did you do that?!" the unmistakable voice of Bakugo yelled. "You've been hiding this from me all our lives?! Thinking you could look down on me once we got to UA?! You damn nerd!" Without warning, he used his Explosions to launch himself at the other boy. Everyone was taken aback at the open hostility. Aizawa let the scarf around his neck unravel, and prepared to catch Bakugo with it.

Except someone else beat him to it, as Bakugo ran into a blueish-white wall. The wind was knocked out of him, as he fell backwards. Another look of shock from everyone as they tried to pinpoint the origin. It didn't take them long to find the glowing blue-white hands, and glowing blue-white eyes of Joshua.

[Present Mic's voice]

Joshua Rowe! His Quirk: Force Field Creation!

Joshua can create force field emissions that can take any shape he chooses. He can also create force fields to act as both modes of movement, as well as being able to create energy projectiles that he can launch as an attack. He has to have line of sight to be able to create and control the force fields. The more he creates, the more strain and stamina he uses. He can also create invisible force fields, but those drain his stamina at almost 10 times the rate visible ones do.

[End Present Mic explanation.]

Bakugo got up, and looked at Joshua, rage in his eyes. He grit his teeth before speaking.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" he said, venom spilling from his words. "This has nothing to do with you. This is between me and Deku, so stay out of out business!" Joshua clenched his fists. He had deactivated his power for now, but got himself into a defensive position in case Bakugo decided to launch an attack at him.

"Who do you think you are?" he said. "You think because you've got a powerful, flashy Quirk, that gives you the right to treat others like dirt?" His own words will also spilling venom with an intensity that rivaled Bakugo's. "It's obvious you're nothing but a bully. Probably praised by everyone. Inflating your ego to the point that if anyone shows any promise of being as good or better than you, you lose your shit.

"And it's obvious you and Midoriya know each other. I'm guessing due to the volatile nature of his Quirk, so it didn't develop until his body could handle it, everyone thought he was Quirkless? And that gave you free range to torture him? I've seen your kind before. Trying to be a Hero? You need to fix your attitude before you even deserve to be in this class with the rest of us."

His words hit the other students hard. A few of them, Mina included, looked at Bakugo in disgust. Others looked appalled. Some were skeptical, but kept to themselves. Others were merely still in shock that a fight was probably about to break out, and were anxious to see everything play out.

Bakugo was furious now. What the Hell does this guy know? Who does he think he is, psych profiling me like that? Getting in my way of teaching Deku a lesson? Bakugo got ready to charge, but when he went to use his Quirk to launch himself, nothing happened.

"That's enough!" Aizawa said. Everyone looked at him to see his hair flowing, and his eyes glowing red. He also had his scarf, no, that's a capture weapon, out and ready to bind any student that crossed him further.

"You're the Erasure Hero," Izuku was saying. "Eraserhead." Joshua knew that name. An Underground Hero. He relaxed slightly, not wanting to draw anymore ire from his teacher.

"Bakugo," he said, addressing the blond first, "go to attack another student like that again, and I'll expel you on the spot. Rowe," now he addressed Joshua, "while defending a fellow classmate is admirable, it's not your place to intervene. That's why I and the other teachers here are Pro Heroes, to deal with this."

Joshua wanted to say something, but bit his tongue. It would be different here. Because of laws, and how people with Quirks like Bakugo's were practically worshiped by adults and other teachers that weren't Pros, bullies were able to torture and get away with all sorts of things because teachers were too afraid of 'ruining a talented young person's chances'. The idea irritated Joshua, and had caused him trouble one too many times back home.

"Now, if everyone's done trying to kill each other, let's get on with the tests," Aizawa said. Bakugo had no choice. As much as he hated it, he didn't want to be expelled from UA. As they were moving on to the next portion, Mina walked up beside Joshua.

"Hey," she said, quietly, to not draw attention from Aizawa. "That was really cool what you did back there. I can't stand bullies. Just wish I could have helped." Joshua smiled to her.

"Probably better that you didn't," he said. "I wouldn't want anyone to take the fall with me and ruin their chances of being a Hero. But thanks for the thought." Mina smiled to him, wanting to say more, but Aizawa cut their conversation through as he went over the other tests.

The rest of the tests went by fairly quickly, and Joshua felt he had done decently. He knew his strong point was probably the ball throw, where he placed 2nd behind the Infinity girl. He had carried the ball with his force field until he couldn't see it anymore, and ended up with just over 3000 meters (how far the human eye can see unimpeded). Once everything was tallied, Aizawa projected the results from his device:

1. Momo Yaoyorozu 2. Shoto Todoroki 3. Izuku Midoriya 4. Katsuki Bakugo 5. Tenya Iida

6. Joshua Rowe 7. Fumikage Tokoyami 8. Mezo Shoji 9. Mashirao Ojiro 10. Mina Ashido

11. Eijiro Kirishima 12. Ochaco Uraraka 13. Koji Koda 14. Tsuyu Asui 15. Yuga Aoyama

16. Hanta Sero 17. Denki Kaminari 18. Kyoka Jirou 19. Toru Hagakure 20. Minoru Mineta

"Oh, and the expelling thing?" Aizawa said. "That was a logical ruse to get you all to do your best. No one is getting expelled." Everyone, especially Mineta, breathed a sigh of relief. Aizawa dismissed the class right after. With him leaving, Joshua became worried that Bakugo would start something, but the Explosion user had pretty much booked it as soon as the test results came out.

"You got a minute?" the voice of Mina caught Joshua's attention. He smiled.

"Sure."

A/N: Yes, everyone, this is a MinaxOC story, though probably won't focus as much on the romance aspect as UAIMS does. And, yes, I put my OC in the place of Sato. It was between him and Aoyama, so I more or less flipped a coin. For those of you who know of my hatred of Mineta, I actually have plans for him. And I did change things up for story purposes.

Now, for where you guys come in. It's going to be a little bit, since I'm trying to use the canon timeline as much as possible with slight alterations, but, I need your help. I'm going to need a Hero name for my OC. I don't have any pre thought out, so fire away with ideas. His Quirk is listed in the chapter. Also, looking for alternate Hero names for Mina. Something that Josh might help her with, or give her an idea about. Let me know what you think. Stay tuned.
