Chapter 8: Preparation
Mmkay guys, so I might've lied. I thought about this chapter being the actual date, but I got carried abway with writing, and well... before I realized how much I had written enough to post. So I apologize for this bit of... errrr... a filler chapter. =P
As many of you know, this weekend is Easter, and I have a lot to do in the next few days. I have Passover dinner tonight, Communion tomorrow, Saturday will be Dungeons and Dragons night with my friends and brother, and well, Sunday is Easter. I hope to get some time to write between all of that, but I'm not sure if that will be a lot.
Anyhow, here's Chapter 8! And I promise the date is next chapter. =)

Adrianna awoke to sunshine hitting her face. The girl immediately flipped over, hiding her eyes from the blinding light. She closed her eyes, trying to go back to sleep. Adrianna didn't want to think about crawling out of bed, let alone anything else. But then she remembered.
She began searching for her phone, forgetting the fact that she had wanted to remain in bed. She missed Tom's phone call, she was sure of it. The girl eventually found her phone on the floor beside her bed; it must've fallen off during the course of the night. Adrianna pushed her hair out of her eyes as she snatched it up from the carpeted floor below her. She scanned the phone's screen. No missed calls, two unread text messages, nothing unusual. She looked through her call log and saw that he had in fact called her, and she had talked for two minutes and thirty eight seconds. She didn't remember doing that, let alone falling asleep!
The girl sighed. She really needed to stop doing that. She began to look through her inbox and saw he had messaged her soon after they had talked last: By the way, you sound super cute when you're half asleep. Hope you sleep well and I can't wait for our date tomorrow. :)
Adrianna began blushing profusely. Tom really had a way with getting to her. She shook her head as she went on to read the other message, aptly from her mom. Her mom liked to check in on her often, just to "make sure she's okay." She did it more so now that she was a whole ocean away from her. Adrianna didn't buy that reason, but she let it slide since it was her mom, after all. Adrianna read the message she had left: Hi sweetie! What's on the agenda for today?
Adrianna debated silently in her head for a moment what to tell her mom. She would be sure to freak out if she told her she had a date just like she always did. Sometimes she thought her mom thought she was still a baby. Adrianna eventually decided to tell the truth: Just woke up, actually. It's almost eleven here, and I have to start getting ready. I have a date tonight with an amazing guy. I'm making that vegetable pizza for him! :)
Adrianna sauntered out of her bedroom and into the living room where she found Marisa and Valarie already sitting there watching TV. She shook her head; they were practically sitting in the same spots as they were last night when she went to bed. She took her seat between them, closing her eyes once again.
"Good morning, Sleeping Beauty," Val teased.
"Oh shut up," she muttered back.
"What? Mad you have less time to get dolled up?" her friend questioned.
Adrianna gave Valarie the look. "Don't remind me."
Marisa punched Adrianna's arm lightly. "Oh, it'll be okay! He'll come over, you'll eat some dinner, and then... well... I dunno!"
Adrianna sighed. "It's that 'I dunno' part that bugs me. I mean seriously, what is there to do here? He's going to be bored outside his ever loving mind!"
"Well, Dree, when two people really like each other-"
Adrianna immediately cut Valarie off. "No Val. Absolutely not. You should know better."
"I was just kidding!"
She shook her head at her friend. Now was not the time to be making jokes like that. Adrianna had never been like that, and Valarie knew that. "I'll just have to find something to do," she sighed. No one said anything for several minutes before she spoke again. "I'm going to get in the shower, and then I'm going to drop you two off at Sam's."
Adrianna left the room, and went off to her bedroom to find something decent to wear. She eventually decided on a pair of jeans and a lacy blue-green tank top. She figured it would be warm enough for her to get away with wearing it. The girl made her way into the bathroom, and began to get ready for the day. After showering, and doing her hair and makeup, Adrianna was ready to take on the day head on.
She emerged from the bathroom in a cloud of steam and perfume. The girl walked into the living room where she once again found her friends, who were both finally dressed in something other than their pajamas. Before she had a chance to answer, Marisa threw her mobile phone at her. Adrianna barely caught it.
"Your mom called you," she announced. "She said it was important that you called her back."
"Okay then?" Adrianna questioned. She dialed her mom's phone number as she stood there with one hand on her hip. After about three rings, her mom picked up.
"About time you called me back." Adrianna realized her phone was on speaker, but shrugged it off. Her mom wouldn't say anything too incriminating.
"Mom I was showering. I told you that I had to get ready for my date," Adrianna sighed.
"So who's this guy? Is he your boyfriend?" the questions started.
Adrianna rolled her eyes. "No mom, he's not my boyfriend... at least not yet."
"What do you mean not yet?"
"I mean exactly that. This is only our second date," Adrianna felt as if she was banging her head against a brick wall. Her mom was stubborn sometimes.
"What happened to that one guy you were with?"
"He broke up with me, and I'd rather not talk about it right now," Adrianna went on. "I'm better off without him, and Tom has made me realize that."
"So his name is Tom?"
Adrianna sighed again. "Yes mom. And he'll be here in less than an hour and a half, and I have to drop Val and Marisa off at Sam's before, and then I have to go to the store to pick up stuff for our dinner."
"Why are you dropping them off?"
"Because they don't know what privacy is!" Adrianna was starting to lose her patience with her mom. "Val already spied on us while we were at Olive Garden. I don't want to know what she would do if I left her home."
"Only your friends would do that to you Adrianna," her mom sighed. "So when do I get to meet this boy?"
"I don't know mom; he works a lot and I don't know if he even wants to be with me yet," Adrianna muttered. "If we get together, you'll meet him eventually."
"Alright I guess. But no funny business, you hear me Adrianna?"
"Okay mom! Love you but I gotta go."
"Call me later! Love you sweetie, bye."
"Bye mom." Adrianna rolled her eyes and hung up her phone, stowing it in her pocket. Her friends were still seated, both laughing at her. "That wasn't funny guys."
"That was frickin' hilarious! I got to give your mom a high five next time I see her," Valarie was still in stitches about it. "It was like an intense game of 20 questions!"
"Still wasn't funny. I hope your mom does it to you next time you bring a guy home," Adrianna said. "Suppose I better drop you off before you cause any more trouble."
After she ran back to her room to grab her keys and purse, Adrianna escorted her friends outside to her car. After a rather intriguing drive half way across the city, Adrianna dropped her friends off at Sam's, hopefully allowing her date to proceed without incident. Now all that was left to do was gather the ingredients for their dinner. Once that was taken care of, Adrianna made her way home, both excited and anxious about her date that was growing ever closer.
When she arrived home, it was about three o'clock. She was sure Tom would be on his way momentarily. Sure enough, as she set out all the ingredients, she received a text message. Adrianna immediately looked at her phone. As suspected, it was Tom: Good afternoon gorgeous. You ready for me to come over?
Adrianna smiled and texted him back: Of course! Just about to start on our dinner. :) After she made sure it had sent, she resumed the process of preparing dinner. She had gotten as far as unwrapping the pizza crust before he replied to her: Awesome. I'll be there shortly.
Even though this was a dish she had made frequently for years now, she now felt the pressure to do it right this time. Last thing she wanted to do was burn their dinner. Adrianna was just hoping this all went over well. She knew this night was going to go over really well or really bad. Roughly twenty minutes later, there was a knock on the door. She rushed over, took a deep breath, and prepared herself to answer it.
Here goes nothing...
