Chapter 35: Nervous

Hey everyone! There's only a chapter and my author's note left in this story before it's over. I am, however, writing a sequel! I'll be ironing out the details after Christmas, since before then I will have no time to do so. >.< Anyhow, in the meantime, I hope you all enjoy this! =)

Adrianna sat at her desk, staring aimlessly out the window. Today was the last day she would be in London for about a week, and she was admittedly not ready to leave yet. As excited as the girl was to go to Hollywood with Tom, she still hadn't packed anything. But above all else, the girl was incredibly nervous about going altogether.

Although the paparazzi had been snapping pictures of them for months now, Adrianna was still not sure how she was going to handle it. Tom hadn't exactly announced her to the world yet, and she wasn't sure how the fans were going to take her. Adrianna had never cared about people liking her before; she had always had a carefree, "who cares" outlook on what people thought about her. But Adrianna also knew how paparazzi could be at times; she had heard many a story about celebrities and what happened to them when they weren't exactly friends with their photographers. Surely Adrianna didn't want to get on anyone's bad side at the premiere.

So there she was- delaying packing, and staring out the window as opposed to doing anything that she should've been. They were to be leaving first thing in the morning, and the time was ticking down, leaving Adrianna a very small window for what she had left to do. The girl frowned at the thought. Part of her didn't want to go, and that part was winning the battle right then. Adrianna had pulled out her suitcase, and it still sat empty on the top of her bed.

The girl glanced at the picture frame sitting next to her monitor. Staring back at her was a picture of Tom and herself from about two months ago. Honestly, Adrianna wasn't sure she had been happier than she was now. After everything she had been through- after all the jerky guys, after all the heart breaks- she had probably the single most amazing man on the face of the planet. Adrianna didn't know how she had managed to be that lucky.

Without Tom, Adrianna was fairly sure that her life wouldn't have been as amazing as it had been in recent times. Sure, she had a terrible job, but simply having Tom around was enough for Adrianna to forget the fact that she spent entirely too much time working at a pet store. The boy completed her; he had given her life a purpose again. When Matthias had broken up with her, Adrianna was nearly certain it was going to take a long time to get over him and what had happened. But then Tom showed up and proved her wrong. Quite frankly, Adrianna hadn't fallen for anyone as quickly as she did Tom. Part of that scared her, yet part of it didn't.

"Shouldn't you be packing?" a voice broke her concentration.

Adrianna glanced away from the picture to see Marisa standing in the doorway, her arms folded against her chest. "Um... yea," Adrianna answered. "I'm working on it."

"Oh yes, because your suitcase is so full," Marisa teased, a smile appearing on her face.

"I never said I had gotten far," Adrianna mumbled.

"I thought you were excited about going?" Marisa inquired, moving out of the doorway and sitting on her friend's bed next to the suitcase. "I mean, you got the dress and everything. Why haven't you packed anything at all?"

Adrianna shrugged. "Nervous I guess."

"Why the hell would you be nervous?" Marisa asked. "You show up, stand there and look pretty for a minute, and then you go watch a movie before anyone else. What's so bad about that?"

"Just the paparazzi and crazed fan girls," Adrianna sighed, turning in her chair to face her friend. "I haven't really had to deal with either of them yet, and I guess they're just psyching me out right now."

"You don't have anything to worry about, Dree," Marisa assured. "Worst comes to worst you can just flip 'em all off and call it good." She paused for a second. "I mean... that's what you would do to anyone else; why would they be any different?"

Adrianna gave her friend a stern look. "Only most people don't have the uncanny ability to ruin my life."

Marisa laughed for a moment before adding, "Matthias did that job pretty well for a while."

Adrianna rolled his eyes. "Other than that idiot."

"Psh, and what are they going to do? I mean honestly! Do you really think anyone is going to be that stupid about it?" Marisa went on. "So what that you're with him? I mean, no offense, but it's really not that big a deal."

"None taken," Adrianna assured. The girl sighed, resting her head on top of her arms on the back of her chair. "It's probably nothing to be stressed about, but for some reason my brain is trying to find every little thing to worry about right now."

Marisa frowned. "Well it should stop doing that. You don't have anything to worry about. This is supposed to be a happy and exciting time for you and Tom, and I would hate for it to get ruined because your mind is making you stress out."

"Yea, I know," Adrianna said quietly. "I'm trying to relax a bit."

"Want me to make you some tea? I know that helps sometimes," Marisa asked.

"Sure, it's worth a shot," Adrianna answered, finally standing. She stretched briefly before continuing. "I suppose while you do that I should get a start on this whether I want to or not."

Marisa jumped up, leaving the room almost immediately to make tea for her best friend. With that, Adrianna finally started rummaging through her dresser to find clothes for the trip to Hollywood. As the girl started to get a small pile of clothes together, her mind drifted back to Tom. She knew that this was a big deal for him- not only was he going to a premiere of his newest movie, he was presenting her to the world for the first time as his girlfriend. Sure, there had been speculation among the paparazzi and fans for sometime before, but no one ever confirmed it. That bit alone made Adrianna more nervous than anything. She knew how fans could get sometimes, and she was not looking forward to the hate she was sure to receive.

But regardless to that, Adrianna knew she had to be strong for Tom. He was showing her his world- something that she had been curious about since day one. Now that he was, Adrianna wasn't sure if she was ready for it. Though now she knew she had no choice; she was going to the movie and she was just going to have to get over it. Adrianna had to do this for Tom. After all, he had done so much for her, this was the least she could do.

The girl tossed some of the clothes into her suitcase as she moved onto grab the dress from her closet. She had picked a long, red dress for the premiere, and she needed to be careful packing it. She draped it carefully on her bed, being sure not to crease it. That part excited her; it wasn't often she got to dress up. Contrary to popular belief, Adrianna loved putting on dresses; she just never had a reason to wear them. But now that she did, she was going to use that to her advantage.

After carefully putting all of her clothes in the suitcase, the girl zipped it up and sat it on the floor in front of her bed. That made there one less thing for her to worry about before leaving in the morning. Just as she sat down on her bed, Marisa came back into the room, barely holding onto a cup of tea. The girl thrust the cup into Adrianna's hands.

"Take it! It's burning my hands," she explained. Adrianna questioningly stared at the tea for a moment, making Marisa add, "It's Earl Grey, no sugar or creamer. Just like you like."

Adrianna smiled. "I like it with sugar and creamer sometimes too, but this works better in times like these."

Marisa smiled slightly for a moment. "Reminds you of something else that calms you down, doesn't it?"

"Oh I don't know what you're talking about," Adrianna played dumb for a moment. She knew exactly what Marisa was talking about. Nothing was more calming to Adrianna when she was stressed than reading- and one book was far more helpful in that regard than others.

"The fact that the book is sitting on your bedside table is enough proof for me," Marisa replied, a smirk all too apparent on her face. "I swear if Artemis was actually a real person, Tom might have some competition."

Adrianna smiled, taking a sip of her tea. She just shook her head at the thought. "As much as I love Artemis Fowl, I don't know if he would be able to compete with Tom. He's not as... personable."

"Uh huh," Marisa chided. "You believe what you want." Adrianna just shook her head to her friend's accusation, and that only caused Marisa to continue. "Anyhow, since you're going to Hollywood, I have a favor to ask of you."

"And that is?" Adrianna was curious as to what her friend could possibly want.

"If you see One Direction you should kidnap them for me," she answered, a huge smile on her face.

Adrianna rolled her eyes. "And Tom has something to worry about? Poor Rupert!" She smirked at her friend's facial expression. "And I don't think I'll see them, but if I do, I'll tell them to run far, far away unless they want to become the victims of kidnap."

"Aren't you just an amazing friend?" Marisa retorted, sensing Adrianna's sarcasm.

"Only the best," Adrianna winked.

Marisa shook her head. "You, ma'am, are crazy. But I'm going to head to bed, alright? I'll be up to say bye and junk in the morning. See you then."

After saying 'night,' Adrianna put her focus back on her tea. After finishing off the cup, the girl set the empty glass on the bedside table before crawling into bed herself. She had a long day ahead of her tomorrow.
