Chapter 32: A New Friend

Hey everyone! Sorry about the delay in this chapter. Been busy and what not. Got a lot on my plate (and mind) recently. Hopefully I can get back into the swing of things here soon. This story is almost complete. Only a few more chapters. And... I'm thinking maybe a sequel? Opinions would be great. =) Anyhow, I hope you enjoy chapter 32. =)

Adrianna stepped into the stagnant air of her apartment. She took a deep breath; there really was no place quite like home. Although she loved her hometown and the vacation town she had frequented since she was a young girl, there was no denying that London was her home now. There was no other place quite like it, and Adrianna was certainly glad she had decided to move there in the first place.

The girl sat down her suitcase just inside the door, and made her way into the living room, allowing space for the rest of the group to come inside. Adrianna collapsed onto the sofa, practically sinking into it. She closed her eyes, ready to sleep in her own bed for the first time in over a week. She felt someone sit down next to her, and without even having to open her eyes, she knew it was Tom; she had gotten this uncanny ability to know it was him without looking. Something to do with his cologne and weight distribution, but Adrianna was far too tired to think about that at the moment. She didn't want to get too comfortable though; she promised Tom she would go back to his house for a while afterwards. Somehow she had to stay awake.

"Whenever you're ready, love, we'll head over to my house for a minute or two," Tom said quietly, his voice coming right from where she thought it would be.

"The sooner, the better," Adrianna muttered, opening her eyes. She noticed all of her friends had scattered themselves around the living room. "I'm finding myself to be a victim of jetlag. The last thing I want to do is pass out and you getting stuck carrying me."

"Touché," Tom chuckled. "Well, if you want to get this all over with, we should head off." He looked at the rest of the group. "You're all free to follow if you'd like, but I'm certainly not forcing you."

Marisa and Valarie exchanged glances. "I'm just going to head to bed," Marisa admitted. "Thanks for the offer, but... perhaps some other time."

"Yea, me too," Valarie added in.

Tom shrugged. "Suit yourself." Adrianna raised her eyebrow to that remark. She had a feeling that Tom knew something that they didn't. She shook the feeling as she forced herself off the couch, even though she so didn't want to.

"I'll be back later then," Adrianna stated. "Please don't trash the apartment."

Before anyone could answer her with some witty remark, she and Tom made their way out of the apartment. The whole way to Tom's house, she couldn't help but think he knew something. Just moments before they pulled into the driveway, Adrianna plucked up enough courage to ask him. "Is there something that I should know about?" she asked.

Tom gave her a puzzled look. "I have no idea what you're talking about, Dree." Adrianna gave him a serious look. That had to have been the most sarcastic answer he had ever given her. Something was up, she just didn't know what.

They pulled into the driveway, and nothing appeared to be out of the ordinary. But why should there be? Adrianna thought. If something was going to happen, whether it was good or bad, Tom wouldn't have put it all in the open. It wasn't like him. Adrianna shook the thoughts once again as they exited the car and made their way up to the front door. Tom unlocked the door, and made his way inside, snickering quietly to himself in the process. As he stepped inside, he called out, "Guys, I know you're here, so you can quit trying to surprise me."

That admittedly confused Adrianna. Who could possibly be there? She didn't have to wonder for long. Soon after she shut the door behind her, she turned to see four people emerging from the kitchen. Without a doubt, she knew right away who they were. She had never met any of them until this day, but due to her excessive knowledge about Harry Potter, she knew exactly who they were. Standing in the doorway were Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and James and Oliver Phelps. Adrianna couldn't help but smile.

"You would have to ruin the surprise, Tom," one of the twins whined. Adrianna couldn't tell which was which; James and Oliver always had looked so similar to her. Adrianna knew one of them had a mole on their neck, but she honestly couldn't tell you which one.

"You guys have given me one too many 'welcome home' parties," Tom replied. "Did you honestly suspect me to not figure you would be here when I got home this time?"

"I suppose you have a point," Emma answered sheepishly, running her hand through her short hair. She pushed her way past the boys and stopped in front of Adrianna. "You must be Adrianna?"

"That's me alright," Adrianna said back.

"It's a pleasure to finally meet the girl who's got Tom wrapped around her finger," she went on teasingly. "I'm Emma."

Adrianna smiled slightly. "I know who you are," she laughed. "I know who all of you are. I figured it would be a matter of time before we all met. I just didn't think it would be tonight." She felt Tom drape his arm over her shoulders, causing her to relax a bit.

"Where the heck are Matt and Rupert?" Dan asked. "I thought they were supposed to be with you?"

Tom rolled his eyes. "They're back at her apartment with her friends," he answered. "I told them they could come, but they just kind of sat there and gave me a strange look."

Dan snorted. "Figures. I'm going to go blow up their phones until they get over here. We can't party without them."

Party? Adrianna was not anticipating that. She was hoping tonight was going to be a quiet evening of relaxation after their long journey home. But, that was not going to be the case as she discovered. She followed the group back into the dining room, all of them taking their seats around the large wooden table. As the boys started talking amongst themselves about what had been going on in their lives, Adrianna took the moment to stretch her arms out. Admittedly, they were a bit cramped after the cramped flight home.

Her alone time was interrupted when Emma spoke up, "It's so nice to finally have another girl around here." Adrianna had forgotten Emma had even sat next to her.

Adrianna forgot Emma had been practically the only girl in this group until she had come around. She wondered for a moment what that must be like, but then she remembered that once upon a time, she was in the same predicament; almost all of Adrianna's high school friends were guys. But she had to agree with Emma. It was nice having another girl around. "It really is," she offered.

Emma didn't say anything for a moment. "You know, your pictures don't do you justice. You're far prettier in person."

Adrianna felt herself blush. "Thanks. I'm assuming you've been seeing all the pictures Tom's posted and the like?"

"Oh of course," she responded. "I've been meaning to get around to actually speaking to you, but you know how our schedules are. We're all over the world."

"That I do," Adrianna sighed, silently remembering the very few times Tom had left to audition for and film a movie.

Emma smiled. "Anyhow, now that you're here, we can talk more. So... since you already know what we all do for a living, what is it you do?"

Adrianna didn't know what she should answer. "Well... right now I work at a pet store. I spend most days chasing fish around a tank. But... I know I can't do that for the rest of my life, but I honestly don't know what I want to do with my life right now, career-wise."

"I'm sure you'll figure it out," Emma offered her support. "I'm sure you have some interests somewhere. Hobbies?"

"The only things I've had time to do are write and play socc-err... I mean football," she corrected herself mid-word. "I used to enjoy acting as a child, but I never did anything serious. The last skit I did involved Batman and little Timmy's family." When Emma gave her a bewildered look, Adrianna decided to add, "It was a really random skit we did for our English class. The last one before that one was somewhat of a fan fiction of Artemis Fowl. Proudest moment of my 'acting' career... a shame that play was a disaster."

That piqued Emma's interest. "How was it a disaster, just out of curiosity?"

"Well, my friend went completely off script at the end, I was lying on the floor 'unconscious' for near fifteen minutes which then led to an ice cream break in the middle of the play, and then of course I was the only one who knew their lines," Adrianna explained. "I was so excited about it, and then it turned into a mess; a hilarious mess, but a mess nonetheless."

Emma giggled lightly to herself. "That sounds hilarious. Wish I could've seen it!"

"I wish someone would've taped it! The only time I ever played a male character, and completely rocked it," Adrianna recalled. "Of course, it was at the last time I really could've played a boy without looking completely misshapen."

Emma's laughter died for a moment. "Did you voluntarily take this character, or did you get forced into it?"

"Girl, I took it. I wasn't going to let anyone else play my favorite character," Adrianna admitted. "Besides, I was the only one of my friends who had dark enough hair that it could pass for black in the lighting." She smiled. "If Valarie wasn't being such a bum, she could've been here telling you about it."

"Valarie...?" Emma tried to place the name, as if she had heard it before.

"Valarie is one of my best friends, and Matt's girlfriend," Adrianna explained.

A smile appeared on Emma's face once again. "That's where I had heard it before! And Rupert is with your other friend?"

Adrianna nodded. "Marisa, though she's more like a baby sister."

A smirk appeared on Emma's face. "Don't you find that it's a bit cliché and weird that somehow you all ended up with each other's friends?"

"Definitely! I've been thinking that for a while now! I mean, seriously. What are the odds that we all would end up with them?" Adrianna agreed. "It's just really odd. It's like when someone writes a story and somehow the main character ends up with the hottie, and then all of her friends end up with his friends. Just a bad idea. Not that I'm complaining here."

"Well, they're certainly copying you," Emma winked.

"Oh! And thank you so much for setting up the gazebo that night. It was beautiful," Adrianna suddenly remembered.

"Oh don't mention it," Emma smiled back at her. "It's what friends are for."

Friends. The word danced around Adrianna's mind for a moment. Was Emma calling her a friend? If so, she certainly wasn't complaining. She could always use more friends. Especially other girls. Before she could get too involved with that thought, Dan interrupted it.

"Matt, Rupert, and their girls are coming over," he announced. "They're the biggest gits I know, I swear."

So the whole group was going to be there. Adrianna knew then that this was going to be probably the longest and craziest night she had had in a long time. Even more so than the night of that infamous play from all that time ago. She was going to need some caffeine to stay awake for it. The girl stood, and made her way over to the coffee maker; time for some drastic measures.
