Chapter 23: Good Riddance!
This was terribly fun to write, so I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did. =P

Adrianna awoke to the sun beating down on her face. Her eyes slowly opened, trying to place where she was. She couldn't remember for certain where she had passed out for the night, and for a moment was a little freaked out when she felt someone breathing on the back of her neck.
She turned to see a sleeping Tom laying behind her, his arm draped over her waist carelessly in his sleep. Adrianna immediately relaxed when she realized this. She was sure for a moment that she was being stalked, and she had finally run out of hiding time. She flipped herself around, allowing herself to face her boyfriend. Adrianna buried her face in his bare chest, taking in his scent. His arm pulled her closer to him, as if that were possible.
Adrianna nudged him, causing him to awaken only moments later. "Hm?" he asked.
"Wake up sleepyhead," she whispered.
"Do I have toooo?" Tom pleaded, his eyes still shut tightly. It was all too apparent that he was not ready to get out of bed.
"Pleaseeeee?" Adrianna asked, batting her eyelashes although he couldn't see them.
Tom stretched as he sat up slightly, pulling her up with him. "Okay, okay, I'm up."
"Well good morning sleepyhead," Adrianna giggled, hugging him tightly.
"Good morning to you as well," Tom smiled, pulling a stray lock of hair from Adrianna's eyes. "How did you sleep?"
"Considering the circumstances, pretty well," Adrianna answered. Admittedly, she was still trying to shake off the fact that Matthias had for all intents and purposes cussed Tom out over the phone. Now she was just hoping that when she went home this afternoon he wasn't going to be there waiting for her.
"Good," Tom replied. "You ready for some breakfast?"
Adrianna nodded. With that, the two of them made their way downstairs and towards the kitchen. Upon entering the kitchen, they found the rest of their friends already munching on French toast. Rupert glanced up from his plate to see them standing in the doorway.
"About time you guys are up! I was beginning to wonder if you were dead!" he exclaimed. "Or something else..."
"Oh Rupert shut up and eat your food," Tom rolled his eyes, pulling out a chair for Adrianna to sit in. After his girlfriend took a seat, he took a seat next to her. "Now, who made this so I know if it's edible or not?"
Marisa laughed. "Who do you think made it?"
Tom pretended to think about it. "Going to have to say Sam."
The red-headed girl turned away from the stove, frying pan in hand. "Of course I did. Someone around here has to make sure all of you guys get fed properly!"
"Very true," Tom stated, helping himself to a plate of food.
The rest of the conversation blurred away as Adrianna began to try to focus on her food. Admittedly, she wasn't that hungry. She was eating only to keep her strength up. Her mind couldn't keep focused on much of anything right now. She just wanted everything to be back to normal already. Even though everyone was pretending to be happy, she knew they weren't. She knew that they were all just as flustered by the situation as she was. Adrianna was sick of walking on eggshells, and she was sick of staying in beds other than her own. Today would be the day she went home, regardless to what Matthias said or did.
After breakfast, she went upstairs and changed out of her pajamas, replacing them with a pair of jeans and a purple tank top. She stowed her clothes into her bag, snatched Artemis Fowl from the bedside table, and made her way back downstairs to meet her friends and Tom. She silently hoped she could have just a stroke of genius like Artemis here before long.
The way back to the apartment was a very quiet ride. Adrianna didn't know what to say, and it didn't take long for Tom to notice her unusual silence. "Are you okay?" he asked.
Adrianna nodded slightly. "Yea, I'm okay."
"It's the whole Matthias thing isn't it?" Tom jumped to conclusions.
"Yea," Adrianna answered him quietly.
Tom sighed, placing his hand on her leg, still managing to drive with one hand. "Don't worry about him Dree. Honestly, he's not going to do anything. And if he tries, you have all of us, plus the police." He paused for a second. "And after what I did yesterday, I highly doubt he'll try anything else."
"I dunno Tom," Adrianna sighed. "He's a bit of a hot head. He's known to do stupid things more often than not. Part of me wouldn't be surprised if he was waiting for me at my apartment."
Tom frowned slightly. "We'll just have to cross that bridge when and if it comes. Try not to worry about it right now." He kissed her as they came to a stop at a red light. "Love you."
"Love you too sweetie," Adrianna said quietly, finding it hard to resist a smile with him saying things like that.
A few minutes later, the two of them pulled into the parking lot to the apartments, beating Rupert, Marisa, Matt, and Valarie back. After sitting in the car for a few moments, attempting to give their friends time to catch up with them, but after five minutes, they decided to head up to the apartment alone. Upon reaching the top of the steps, Adrianna realized there was probably going to be a fight; Matthias was leaning against the wall next to her door. His gaze met hers, and that's when Adrianna moved defensively in front of Tom.
"I was wondering when you would show up," Matthias started.
"How long have you been here?" Adrianna demanded answers.
Matthias laughed deviously. "Longer than you would believe."
"That's just creepy," Tom hissed. "Can't you take a hint? Adrianna doesn't want anything to do with you. She's done with you Matthias. Get over it."
Matthias smirked, glancing at Tom. "Well well. It's so nice to finally be able to meet you." He paused for a moment. "You're a bit shorter than I pictured you."
Tom rolled his eyes. "And you're stupider than I pictured you. So now that we've gotten that out of the way, would you be so kind to leave my girlfriend alone? We have already established she isn't going back to you, so there truly isn't a point in you being here still. Go home."
"Are you sure that's what she wants, and not just what you want?" Matthias inquired, his face looking angrier with every passing second.
"It's exactly what I want," Adrianna clarified, holding Tom's arm tightly, trying to keep him calm. "I don't love you anymore Matthias. It's time that you realize that. I've moved on, and it's about time you do the same thing. Stop living in the past."
Matthias raised an eyebrow, a bit miffed by Adrianna's brash behavior. "Oh Dree, you don't mean that, do you?"
"One, stop calling me Dree. You lost the privilege to do that a long time ago," Adrianna hissed. "And two, I mean every word I've said to you in the past few days. I'm over you." She hugged Tom tightly, grateful to have him there with her right then. "You weren't good to me, Matthias. You treated me like crap! I don't deserve that; I deserve the best, and that's what I have now."
"But I can change," Matthias pleaded. "I can be better."
"I've heard that so many times, and it never happened. I'm done, Matthias. Done," Adrianna rolled her eyes. "Quit trying to make me change my mind. I'm not going to."
Matthias was quiet for a few minutes before he said anything. "Fine... have it your way then. But when this asshole breaks your heart, don't come crying back to me." With that, he pushed past them on the staircase, making his way back down the stairs.
Adrianna glanced up at Tom once he was out of sight before she went over to her door to unlock it. She opened the door, stepping foot inside her own home for the first time in a few days. There really was no place like home, she thought to herself. She and Tom had barely been inside for a few minutes before their friends busted through the front door.
Marisa was mumbling something under her breath. "Stupid... dumbass... who does he think he is?"
Adrianna immediately took notice. "Are you talking about Matthias?"
"Yea! He was walking past us on our way in!" Marisa shouted. "So he met my friend, Mr. Fist!"
Adrianna smacked her forehead out of frustration. "You punched him?"
"We both did," Valarie spoke up. "Right in his face!"
All three of the boys laughed at the girls' bit of violence. "Only you two," Tom shook his head. "The only people I know who would seriously punch a guy randomly in the face."
"No... Dree would do it too!" Val brought up. "She just didn't want to make you have to hold her back."
"Seriously, did she ever tell you about what happened to that waitress?" Marisa inquired.
"No, no, no. Not the waitress story. I didn't mean to do that!" Adrianna stopped her friends. She remembered the day when she scared the death out of a waitress just by glaring at her. She shook it from her memory as she began to get on with the next order of business. "By the way, I was wondering if you all would like to go on a camping trip with us? Val you've been there so I know you want to go, so I'm more or less asking the rest of the group."
The rest of the group exchanged glances before nodding excitedly in agreement. Adrianna knew then that the trip back to America was going to be a long and quite hilarious one at that.
