From weird to wonder
The sports club of the college had been eagerly hoping for new talented members so that they could go from being just a casual club to a respected and valued one.
The selection day arrived and very few applicants turned up. Hence, the board had to select everyone who had applied.
The next day, the old club memebers waited to meet and welcome the new members. It was evening. The sun was going tired slowly. And under the dimmed cool light, they all discussed and anticipated about the new members.
"What? Kashvi joined the club? Why? Can she even walk without her heels?" Anya giggled at her own words.
"It's going to be fun looking at her try." Maera said for everyone to hear.
"Who is this girl?"Nitesh asked.
"Cartoon of our class." Maera said.
"Wo wo.....be careful there. You shouldn't be commenting on someone's appearance." Harshil said.
"I never said anything about her looks. By the way, she is beautiful. She is just a little weird. I don't know how you are all going to feel about her. But I love her. She is a friend. I am excited for her to be here."
The newcomers entered. And the girl who took most of the attention of the people present there for her beauty and choice of vougish clothing turned out to be Kashvi.
Kashvi rushed directly to Maera and hugged her. "Smile a little. Your cartoon is here." She said.
Then Kashvi was introduced to the rest. Everyone noticed the unnecessary excess of expressions oozing out of her face. It was funny to the core.
"Do you need all those expressions?" Harshil couldn't help asking her.
"Dude. It's just how I am. It's natural." Kashvi said.
"It seems unnatural to me."
"That's your problem."
That day while playing a friendly volleyball match, Harshil saw how kashvi made sure to keep her various expressions intact on her face. She wouldn't let the look of exertion on to it. Even if it meant hampering her performance.
"What are you doing, Kashvi? Your team is loosing because of you. You can give audition for a movie later. Right now, play." Harshil said aloud, prompting everyone to burst into laughter.
"But I am trying my best." Kashvi said.
"There are no cameras around. Stop trying to look your best." Harshil said and Kashvi rolled her eyes at him.
Harshil found her reactions to be tacky.
"What's your problem?" Kashvi asked Harshil after the match.
"Arre, I had put a bet on your team. Now I lost because of you."
The next day, while they were coming for to the club, Maera, teasingly said to Harshil, "Should I set you up with her?"
Harshil joined his hands and said, "Have mercy on me. Find me a girl with a little brain......Kashvi is a nice person, for sure. But also a bit irritating."
Harshil would always come up with sarcastic remarks for Kashvi. It gave him a different kind of pleasure. And Kashvi would always either shrug it off or laugh along with him.
"Arre.....protect your make up. It's your life."
"Why would you run to get the score, right! The court isn't for a game. It's for ramp walk."
"Oh I didn't know a heel relaxes your feet."
So on and many more.
One fine day, while coming to college, they met on their way and decided to walk together. They talked and giggled while Harshil tried to councel her with some life tips.
As they approached a bridge over a narrow but deep river, suddenly they heard a cry for help. Some one was drowning.
Looking at the harrowing sight of someone struggling in the water, Harshil started fretting. He never learnt swimming. There was no one else he could turn for help.
To his surprise, while he was panicking and striding to and fro, Kashvi darted into the river. The current was strong and it was a difficult task rescuing the child. But Kashvi didn't give up. Slashing through the water she reached the child somehow and pulled her out to the riverbanks.
Harshil saw it all, with his flabberghasted eyes. He didn't intend to but froze. He descended down the slopes to the riverbank only when he realised that he needed to do something, even if he didn't know what.
He knelt beside the child and stressed his brain very hard to remember anything, any knowledge of his which could help. Meanwhile, Kashvi performed the first aid, to help the child spit out water in her tracts. Soon the child felt better and sat up to breathe better. Kashvi looked at her gladly.
Kashvi's make up was all smudged and washed up. Her hair was dishevelled. She had lost the heels and her earrings. But to Harshil's unflinchingly admiring eyes, she looked like the most attractive woman he had ever seen.
And it was in those moments, Harshil realised that he had fallen head over heels in love with Kashvi.
