Chapter Twelve ~ What Have I Done?

Amy Taylor POV

Angelina was the first to sit up. "Where are we?" She mumbled.

"I don't know." I murmured, sitting up as well. Angelina tried to move her right leg, but cried out in pain.

"What?" Sophia sat up.

"My leg." Angelina squeezed her eyes shut. Sophia moved over to her, dragging herself along over the ground. When she got there, her hands flew to her mouth.

"Oh my gods." She whispered, then went over to where I was sitting. "Amy, you're the daughter of Apollo here. What do we do?"

"Um..." I stretched out my legs and arms. "Go to the school nurse?"

She face-palmed. "But Apollo is the god of healing! Surely one of his daughters would know what to do!"

"Well you see," I stumbled, trying to grasp my words and try to explain my problem. "He's also the god of archery, and well, I guess I inherited the archery side?"

Sophia sighed, and I could see disappointment on her face. "Well, we have a daughter of Apollo who supposedly can't heal, someone who has broken their leg and a girl who has been blessed by Hera and doesn't even know half of her powers. Brilliant, just brilliant."

"Oh shut up." Angelina groaned. "We have bigger issues. Where the Hades even are we?"

This was the first time I had actually focused on our surroundings. The faint sound of voices could be heard from the other side of a row of trees. I stood up and broke through the leaves. Sophia pushed in next to me. "Where are we?" She muttered in shock.

"I think I know." I said. "This is Meter Park. I live just around the corner. Hold on, I can go to my mom. She'll know how to help. You stay here with Angelina." I pushed out of the bushes before she had the time to protest. Then I started jogging over to the street.

My mom and I lived in a small suburb called Meter. Yes, weird name, but it was what I called home. I came to the corner of the road and my street. It was called Salmine Avenue, but I just called it 'My Avenue'.

The house numbers flashed by me.

160,

158,

156...

150! Home! I went up the driveway and saw my mother's dark blue Honda sitting in front of the garage. I ran up the steps onto the front porch and then rung the doorbell and waited. The door swung open and my mother came into view. Unlike me, she has blonde hair and green eyes, but like me, she's slightly shorter than average but has big feet and can't help but not tell anyone when they use the last of the milk...

Her eyes lit up when she saw me. "Hey sweetheart! How was your sleepover with Kate?" I bit my lip. Aphrodite had told me that she had persuaded my mom to think that I was at a sleepover with some friends, but it just felt...different for some reason. Like since the morning I left for school not knowing the adventure that I was about to embark on happened about a million years ago.

"It was good." I lied. "Um, I was wondering if I could stay there for the rest of the week since you're busy writing the new book?" Yes, my mom is an author, don't be so surprised.

"Of course! You could've just texted me, though." She smiled. But underneath the happy facade I could see the tiredness. I wondered how many sleepless nights she had been having whilst writing that book.

"I just wanted to get some stuff." I replied.

"Sure." She stepped aside to let me in. I went down the hallway to my room and opened the door. Then I grabbed an empty backpack off the floor and filled it up with a few spare pairs of clothes, a book (for boredom) and a hairbrush before going down to the kitchen and grabbing two apples and some musli bars. Then I made my way back down the hall to the cupboard and grabbed the basic medical kit and a blanket before stuffing it in my bag and going out.

But I hesitated. Before going out, I went back to my bedroom and took out the call card that Ella had given to me. I pressed the little call button and waited. "Hello?" A voice asked.

"Um, hello. This is Amy Taylor. I was given this card yesterday--"

"You've done a good thing, Amy." The girl's voice said. "Not many can betray their friends like you have. I'll send a team to your location now."

"Wait!" I exclaimed. "Can you at least wait a few hours? I mean, so it won't be suspicious?"

I could feel the girl considering it. "Very well. I'll send a team at sundown." Then the voice disappeared, leaving me to think about the betrayal I had just made.

Authors Note:

I have no idea how much longer this book is going to be. Five to ten more chapters? I don't know.

Yes, Amy was the betrayer. It might have been obvious, but I don't really care.
