Chapter Thirteen ~ Surprise!

A girl wove through the panicking crowds at the Aphrodite Rangers Headquarters. She was quite tall and skinny with long brown hair with blue highlights in it and grey eyes. Unlike most of the other Rangers, she was wearing a Camp Half-Blood tee-shirt and jeans with a sword strapped to her waist.

Just three hours ago the STS agents had breached the Headquarters, yet they had all been captured in less than two. The other Rangers were still trying to find their friends, but this girl wasn't worrying. She made her way over to the amphitheatre room where she took up the microphone and spoke into it.

"Attention all Rangers. Please report to the amphitheatre for an announcement." She spoke clearly.

"Hey Katie." A girl said, slipping onto the platform. She had caramel hair that was tied up in a ponytail and dark blue eyes. Her outfit was a green Aphrodite Rangers shirt and knee-length shorts along with a bow and quiver.

"Hello Lili." Katie greeted. "Did you hear the news?"

"Yeah." Lili's face went grim. "I can't believe it! I bet they targeted her in the first place! Gods, it's like the Last Olympian all over again!"

"I know." Katie agreed. "But we need to put it behind us now. What would she do?"

"Probably plan out another attack. What was it she said? Expect--"

"--the unexpected. Yeah, but Taylor Ri is at the Camp Half-Blood Headquarters, along with Catgirl. I've called Catgirl and she said not to panic, and just focus." By now most of the Rangers had arrived.

"We need to prepare." Lili smashed her fist onto the railing of the announcement platform. "Ow!" She cried, then started dancing around clutching her hand.

Katie sighed. "You didn't listen the last time I told you not to do that!"

Lili shrugged. "Whatever. Just get it over with."

Katie went up to the microphone and started speaking, her face emotionless. "Attention all Rangers. Sorry to disturb you from your activities, but I have a few important announcements, the first being that I'm confirming the death of Julie Starfly."

Whispers broke out through the stands. "The second is that new recruits Amy Taylor, Sophia Downside and along with long-time agent Angelina Phillips have been reported missing. Thank you for your time."

Chapter Thirteen ~ Surprise!

Sophia Downside POV

"Finally!" I exclaimed, as Amy came back. For some reason she looked guilty, but I brushed off the thought. She dumped the backpack on the ground and pulled out a medical kit.

"Nothing too magical." She said, and passed it over to me. I rubbed my hands together, and then pulled out a small bottle of anaesthetic ointment. Taking the cap off, I squeezed a little bit into my palm then carefully rubbed it on Angelina's leg. She winced, then sighed in relief.

"What? It's just mortal medicine--" my jaw dropped, the cream had disappeared on her leg! It was as if it had melted into her skin!

"No, it feels like nectar." Angelina told me.

"What's that?"

"It's what the gods drink. Ambrosia is their food and Nectar is their drink. It can heal demigods but too much could literally burn us up."

"Really?" Amy asked. She took the bottle from me and sniffed it. "Smells like regular ointment."

"That's because it is." Angelina took the bottle from Amy. "I have no idea how it changed to Nectar." She looked up at me in awe. "You myst have the magic touch."

I blushed. "Probably a blessing from the gods. I dunno why though."

Angelina moved her leg. She only winced a little bit. "Still sore, but I think it'll heal completely if I keep pitting the ointment on it every few hours."

"Right. What do we do now?" I asked. No one responded.

"I think we should keep moving." Angelina said finally. "I mean, we don't even know why we're here, so I guess we should find out?"

Amy nodded her head numbly. "Yeah, I think so too."

We all got up--Angelina leaning on Amy's shoulder for support--and went out of the bushes and into the park. It wasn't very large, just a few benches, a playground and a walking track, so we went around the walking path towards the road. "Maybe we should go grab some coffee?" I suggested. It wasn't a bad idea, so we went over to a nearby shop and hobbled inside.

Amy went up to order while Angelina and I slid into a small unoccupied booth in the far corner. When she came back with our order number, we sat in silence. "How's your leg, Angelina?" I asked, trying to break the awkward silence.

"It's okay." Angelina admitted. "Just a little sore." We didn't speak again.

"Here's your order!" The waitress said to us as she passed around our drinks and some cake. I instantly perked up and pulled my hot chocolate towards me. My mom had always tried to get me into drinking coffee, but I preferred hot chocolates better.

"So, back to business. Why are we here?" Amy asked.

"Good question." Said a voice from beside us. We jumped. Sitting next to Amy was a woman. I think Amy recognised her, but I didn't.

"Lady Aphrodite." Amy bowed.

And to our astonishment, Aphrodite herself sipped on her tea and stared at us delightfully. "Well isn't this wonderful?" She giggled.
