Chapter Sixteen ~ So Many Unanswered Questions

Chapter Sixteen ~ So Many Unanswered Questions

Sophia Downside POV

I felt trapped. I know, I had been kidnapped by an STS agent and was locked up in a cell, but I just felt lonely. Our capturer, Sam, decided to try and interrogate Angelina for information on the Aphrodite Rangers, but she held her ground and ended up knocking Sam out--with her hands tied behind her back, may I add.

She had also tried to interrogate me, but I told her that I didn't have anything to offer.

The cell we had was more of a hotel room. It had two beds, a bedside table lamp, a separate bathroom (though it only had a sink and a toilet) and a barred window. From the look out of a window, we were at least five floors up; our cell was probably on the top floor.

"I hate being locked up!" Angelina grumbled to herself a couple hours after we had been taken here. "It's so annoying!" She rattled the doorknob. "And it won't even budge!"

"Calm down, Angel." I told up. She clenched her fists.

"Do not call me Angel." She growled. "Or else you'll wake up in the middle of the night screaming 'cause you had a nightmare of what I did to you."

"Oh please," I laughed. "I could take you any day." Even though the STS had taken our weapons, I still had my powers. Of course, I couldn't use them yet, otherwise they'd know what I could do.

"Bring it on!" Angelina cried, raising her fists. She had been wearing skating pads and a bronze breastplate earlier, but they had been taking away, along with the backpack Amy got us, my sword, Angelina's knives, her spear and even my earrings.

"Wait!" I yelled. "We can't do it here!" I lowered my voice to a whisper. "They don't know about my powers."

"That's what you're worried about?" Angelina asked. "You should embrace it!"

"They'd lock me up and think I was contagious!" I cried.

"Just because you don't want to use your p--" I clamped a hand over her mouth.

"Shh." I whispered. Then her eyes started to droop. She hobbled over to her bed and collapsed on top of it.

Suddenly, the door opened. Sam stepped in, grabbed my arm and dragged me back out into the corridor. The guards locked my hands in handcuffs and Sam took me to the interrogation room.

I had been in it before. It wasn't very impressive, just a room with a white ceiling, walls and floor with table that had two chairs on opposite ends. I was seated on one side, Sam on the other.

"So." She started, putting her hands together on the table. "What's your secret?"

"What secret?" I asked. A plan came to mind. Maybe I should try to frustrate her, get a little information...

"The one you mentioned while you were with Angelina." Sam said, examining her nails.

"I don't have any secrets to give away." I sneered, looking her directly in the eye.

"Of course you do." Sam spat at me. "Everyone has secrets."

"Well, most people seem to discover mine before I do. So maybe you should see if you can find mine."

"Who's your godly parent?" She whispered. "Aphrodite? Hebe? Hecate?"

"I'm mortal." I shrugged.

"Really? Hold out your finger." I obliged. Sam brought out her bronze sword and put the edge to my finger, then slid it across. It went right through.

"Told you."

"Then how are you with the Aphrodite Rangers? How can you see through the Mist?"

"I'm special, I guess. I don't really have any powers, though."

"Powers?" Sam asked, leaning forwards more.

I shrugged. "I don't have any. Angelina does, though."

"Who's her godly parent, then?"

"Only the goddess of agriculture and the harvest." I said as if it were no big deal.

"Demeter?" Sam asked.

"Of course." I grinned. "If we're exchanging godly parents, then who's yours?"

"Aphrodite." Sam sneered. "The most useless goddess there is. She tried to get me to join the Aphrodite Rangers, so I did. Then I discovered the STS. Didn't tell anyone about it until it was too late. I was the one to kill the famous Charlotte."

I gasped in mock surprise. "What an honour. What's she got to do with the AR anyway?"

"Oh, she only discovered the first ever Ranger, Alexia. They used to be in charge of the whole operation until I killed her. Alexia was heartbroken. She disappeared for an entire year and went into hiding before she came back by a new name."

"What was the name?" I pressed.

"Catgirl."

I gasped. "Her? She's the famous protecter of percabeth though!"

Sam sighed. "You weren't told anything, were you? Alexia was assigned by her mom, Aphrodite, to go undercover in a high school and keep an eye on Percabeth. Charlotte, a mortal who could see through the Mist, figured her out and they decided to start up the concept: 'the Aphrodite Rangers'. Unfortunately though, she died two years later."

My brain whirred. Why would Catgirl leave just because of Charlotte's death?

But that wasn't the only unanswered question I needed to know the answer to.
