Chapter Fifteen ~ I'm Sorry

Amy Taylor POV

"Can you tell us where their main bases are?" Sam, the girl who kidnapped Sophia and Angelina asked me.

I nodded my head and started to mark them out on the map. They were each spread out across the world in places relating to couples. For example, there was one in Chicago because of Fourtris, one in the ocean (protected by Poseidon who agreed to help) because of Disney princesses and a few others scattered around. But for some reason I decided not to tell her about the base at Camp Half-Blood.

"Thank you." Sam hurried off to deliver the map to top STS agent, Olivia.

For a moment I gazed around the meeting room--a big open space with a large table in the centre and a big window on one wall. The entire base is a huge five story building. It's pretty impressive, but not really to me.

Suddenly, my mind disappeared. I could see the hurt and pain in Angelina's eyes. "I'm sorry." My voice was barely a whisper, but I could tell that she had heard me.

My vision came back into focus and I started breathing heavily. In, out. In, out. In, out.

Gods, that freaked me out. If was as if someone was trying to tell me something. I stood up and went out of the room to the stairwell and grabbed the handrail. My feet planted themselves on the top step and I breathed in deeply. All that was supporting me was the handrail, and my tight grip was squeezing the life out of my hands.

My head started pounding, and then all I remembered was collapsing onto the floor as the world puffed out.

I was in a small office. There wasn't much furniture, just a simple white desk and chair with another two chairs pressed against the opposite wall. There was a door behind the desk and part of the the wall to my left opened into a cafeteria sort of room. Well, at least that's what I thought it was.

"We need to formulate a plan." A voice snapped. It was Catgirl.

"Agreed." A girl stepped through after Catgirl. She had long black hair that went down her back and bright grass-green eyes. Her face was covered in freckles, but she didn't really seem to care like other girls did about their appearance.

"Where do we start?" Catgirl asked. She slid into the seat behind the desk while the other girl pulled up another one from the wall. Catgirl's eyes looked tired. Their usual serious blueness looked like cracked concrete. "I mean, the STS are planning to attack soon, so what's holding us back?"

"I don't know." The other girl sighed. "It's too much for us to handle, I admit. Especially since one of our best fighters, an agent with stunning archery accuracy and that girl who was blessed by Hera are MIA."

"Don't be so negative, Taylor!" Catgirl chided. Suddenly the building started shaking violently. Taylor fell off her chair and Catgirl dove underneath her desk. Cracks appeared in the walls and part of the roof caved in. "Run!"

The two girls ran out of the room, and I drifted after them. STS agents dropped to the floor in the large room that was connected to the office and started capturing Rangers. A little girl who had been reading on a bench whacked someone over the head with a hardcover book. "Sorry bookie." She whispered to it soothingly, making sure that it was alright before drawing her sword.

"Regroup!" Taylor Ri screamed as Catgirl ran back into the office.

Then the building started shaking again. I looked up at the roof, which was really high and made of glass. Part of it shattered and the little girl dived underneath a nearby table. But mid-dive, an arrow whizzed towards her and hit her chest.

"No!" I screamed, but they couldn't hear me. Blood poured out of the wound and the girl fell to the ground, splattering her book in blood. Several more Rangers came out of doors in the room but they were shot down by a STS agent. And for a moment, I saw her face. The face that I knew so well; the one that I saw in the mirror every morning.

My face.

I was the archer, I had bought this fate onto the innocent.

Suddenly, I woke up coughing and spluttering on the stairwell. My breathing was raced and I leaned against the wall, trying to focus on my surroundings. This was all my fault. This was all my fault.

As I tried to concentrate on my breathing, a pair of voices came from down the stairs. I quickly stood up and melted into the shadows, and my hand instantly went to my H.E.A.R.S, it seemed so long ago that Aphrodite had given them to me.

The agents walked right past, which I didn't really mind because they didn't see me.

But even as I descended the stairs, I felt my heart still beating too fast. Too fast for my normal pace. It started to slow down, but I was already overwhelmed.
