Chapter Eleven ~ Seriousness and Earthquakes
Feet pelted against the ground, exploding the dry earth in bursts of speed and dirt. The running girl put her hand in her pocket, feeling the smoothness of the remote before pulling it out and clicking the button. A yellow light appeared on the small circular disk.
"This is Agent Sam coming in." She said into the small microphone that had popped out of the bottom of the remote. "Reports are successful--Ella has given Amy the call card."
"Excellent." the voice on the other end reached Sam's ears. "Report back to base, we're in the middle of targeting another Ship."
Sam laughed as the red button came up on her remote. She skidded to a stop. "I say a vulnerable pair like that Hazel and Frank."
"Yeah. Look, meet me in the main meeting room. We can discuss what to do."
"I'm coming in right now." Sam reported, before switching off the microphone and putting the remote back in her pocket.
Chapter Eleven ~ Seriousness and Earthquakes
Angelina Phillips POV
Everyone was training before a bell rang. It bounced off the walls and pounded my eardrums before it finally stopped. We knew this drill--Wattpad time!
The book shelf flipped around to show nine laptops stacked neatly on a shelf. Everyone stopped what they were doing and grabbed one before sitting down somewhere on the floor. "What are you doing?" Amy asked. Her and Sophia were awkwardly holding their laptops.
"Updating Wattpad." I replied. "Aphrodite made you an account. Here's the username and password." I handed them each a small piece of paper. "Oh, and I already hacked each of your accounts and gave you profile pictures."
Amy opened up her laptop. She tapped a few things on the keyboard before turning the screen around to show me. "You put a llama as my profile picture?" She cried.
I shrugged. "Seemed about right." Sophia gasped.
"You did not..." I laughed. Her profile picture was of a grumpy cat wearing a party hat.
I opened up my notifications to see that several people had commented: 'update!' On my story, Mortals Meet Percabeth. Groaning, I opened up a new tab and went onto the next chapter. Not bothering to properly edit it, I just read over it and posted it.
"Yay! You finally updated!" Nakura squealed. Then she frowned. "Why does your profile picture now of book with: 'Idiot Was Here' graffitied on the cover?"
"Someone graffitied on a book?" Alex gasped.
No one paid attention to her. "SOPHIA!" I cried. She just giggled. Then she saw my expression and slowly started inching away.
Suddenly, the emergency alarm rang. Bars closed over the door and the lights flickered before going out. A holographic image of Taylor Ri, a head Ranger at another base appeared.
Emergency protocol procedure no. 709. She said, her voice blank and boring. Please take your weapons and go to the nearest exit. Be on alert. Then the lights turned back on and the image disappeared. The bars over the door vanished and everyone was instantly up, frantically running around and grabbing their gear.
I pulled on a bronze breastplate and my usual skater-pads before taking my spear and knives. Amy did some weird thing with her bracelet and knife and she was holding a bow and quiver. Sophia's hands were glowing white and they formed a glowing sword. She looked exhausted, but grinned when the glow disappeared and a golden sword was left.
A sudden rumble of earth above our heads made us tense. Cracks appeared in the ceiling and someone yelled out: "Earthquake!"
I ran towards the exit, Sophia and Amy hot on my heals. We entered the Jump, where ropes were coming down from the ceiling. Natural light streamed in, and I jumped. Someone zoomed down one of the ropes and grabbed my leg. I heard a crack, and pain flared up my body as she held onto me by my legs.
"Hey!" Sophia cried, jumping down and using a rope to fling herself at us, then swiped her sword at the rope, and it snapped, sending us tumbling to the ground.
The unknown person looked panicked, like he didn't expect to fall. His mask fell off, and I saw his bright blue eyes before he landed on top of the mist.
He didn't go into it, just landed there spread-eagled on the ground with a vacant expression in his eyes. A scream escaped my mouth and I reached the mist and tumbled into it.
As my mind went blank, I heard a voice speak in my head: Lead the others. You'll know what to do.
Then I opened my eyes.
