MERCURY'S POV 

I went back inside the cabin. It was this large dome made entirely of dark oak. Inside it was decorated with tapestries of the sun and the stars. I walked into the main room, which had a table with a basket of wild berries sitting on it. 

I levitated them to me one by one, hungrily sucking the tasty juice. I wiped my stained mouth with my paw.

My ears perked up and swivelled around as I heard a noise.

I saw Eclipse and the Sylveon entering the cabin. I focused on the berries, ignoring them.

"Excuse me," the Sylveon said rather awkwardly.

I looked up, and Eclipse gave me a look that said give her a chance?

"I'm really sorry about how I acted. That was totally horrible of me. I really hope you can forgive me..." the Sylveon apologised, looking down.

I glowered at her for a moment. Then I laughed.

"That's totally fine," I said. "I would've probably done the same. If my natural enemy came waltzing up to my den, I'd have attacked too. I'm Mercury, by the way," I said, smiling.

The Sylveon beamed, and her tendrils swirled around. "I'm Lilika."

We spent the rest of the afternoon chatting and laughing, until the sun fell and the moon came out.

"Hey, Mercury, where d'ya wanna sleep?" Eclipse asked me, setting up a bed with her mind abilities.

"Oh... I was wondering if I could sleep... outside?" I asked nervously.

"Outside?" Lilika asked, dumbfounded. "But it's cold outside. And your tail isn't any better; surely you want to sleep inside?"

"Oh, my tail's been feeling much better thanks to Eclipse," I smiled at the Espeon in question, who returned the smile, equally as warm.

"As for sleeping outside, it's mostly just because I love watching the fireflies and the moon... it helps me sleep."

"Oh! Of course!" Eclipse slapped her dual-ended tail to her skull in a facepalm. 

"Can I... can I join you?" She asked suddenly.

"Oh, of course! I've never had company before," I beamed.

"Lily? Wanna come?" I offered.

The Sylveon quickly erased what looked like jealousy from her face. "No thanks," she growled. "Us Sylveons don't like sleeping outside."

"Suit yourself," I shrugged, as I helped Eclipse take the silk blankets outside.

As we walked out of the cabin, I looked up at the sky. The stars littered the black pasture, shining bright amongst the darkness. The full moon was a shining sphere in the sky, and it washed its rays over me.

I felt my body pulse as my neon blue rings glowed.

"Woah... that looks... awesome..." Eclipse said, staring at my rings and dropping the blankets.

I laughed. "Thanks..."

I arranged the blankets against a log, making it comfortable. I made space for Eclipse, and she gladly sat beside me.

Together, we watched the fireflies dance around in the ebony darkness, like the embers of a fire. Except instead of fizzling out, the embers kept shining.

"Did you know that Umbreons and Espeons were created for each other?" I asked, staring at the fireflies.

"They were?" Eclipse asked curiously, not taking her eyes off the fireflies either.

I nodded. "Espeons were created to harness the sun and all of its powers, and Arceus decided he needed a counterbalance. So he created Umbreons, who controlled the moon and all of its powers. It was said the two species would forever be made for each other, as if they were the Yin and Yang to each other..."

Eclipse leant into me, and we entwined tails.

I spread the other blanket on top of us, and we shared each other's warmth.

I suddenly realised that it had been so long since I had a friend...

Of course, this was because Umbreons were Dark types. Everyone (except Espeons of course) assumed us to be evil, lying, conniving creatures of darkness.

And... some of us are.

Some, like Thallium.

Thallium was the worst Umbreon to have ever lived. He went around, massacring everyone he could. His soul had been consumed by evil, but that was only because he had succumbed to Darkrai's wishes.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when I heard soft snoring. I tried to laugh in amusement as I saw that Eclipse had fallen asleep.

I smiled and rested my head on hers.

That was how I fell asleep, entwined with her.
