... The year is 199X ...
Hey there. My name is Ness.
All was silent and peaceful in the town of Onett. People were heading home for the night, and some people were already sleeping in bed. But in the outskirts of the town, where I happened to reside, things would become chaotic.
...
I was trying to go to sleep, but it was impossible. I tossed and turned, and even put my pillow over my head. The earth rumbled violently, and it was extremely loud. I jolted up from sleeping position and looked out the window. There was something in the sky... and it was heading straight for the ground... BOOM! I wasn't sure where it hit, but it must've been pretty close! A blinding light engulfed the entire area with a bright red glow, and I hopped out of bed startled, forgetting that the ground was still shaking. I slipped and fell to the ground. I tried regaining my balance but the earthquake didn't let me. I waited for the rumbling to calm down before I got myself up and stumbled into my sister Tracy's room to see if she was ok. She walked over to me as I closed the door behind me. Suddenly, the rumbling stopped.
"Hey bro." she greeted. "Did the sound wake you up? Were you freaked out?" I nodded. She twirled her blonde hair around her finger, causing me to feel self-conscious and fix my messy black hair. I ran my hands through it, smoothing down my bedhead. "I wonder if Mom will let me stay up late? I can't really fall back asleep." She stared out her window out into the now quiet distance. I tried going downstairs to see if Mom was awake. Sure enough, she was pacing back and forth across the kitchen, her posture disheveled.
"Ness?" she called out, her voice trembling. "What was that noise?" I shrugged. "I'm just as curious as you are." I replied stoically. She put her hands over her face and then placed them on her hips in a grumpy manner. "Ness, you don't seem very scared. Are you nuts?" I went up to Mom. "It doesn't seem very scary." I told her. "I should go investigate..."
Mom gasped. "And now you want to go check it out?" She rubbed her temples and sighed. Her expression softened, and her once tense muscles began to relax. "Oh... okay... You'll sneak out of your room anyway, even if I ask you not to." A small smile appeared on my face when she said that. It was true. She turned towards me and snickered. "At least change out of your jammies before you go." I looked down. Oh yeah, I was still in my sleepwear. I blushed and ran back upstairs.
...
I walked back downstairs in my usual attire, a yellow and blue striped shirt with a red and blue baseball cap, with denim shorts and red sneakers. My mom walked up to me and placed a hand on my head thoughtfully.
"Be careful!" she warned. "Come home as soon as you can!" I nodded and waved goodbye, leaving the house. "I'll be back soon!" I exclaimed. Before I left though, I swear I could of heard my dog King telling me to go back to sleep. Or it could of just been my imagination. Whatever. But whatever it was, it wasn't going to stop me from finding out what had happened.
As friendly a town as Onett was, it was no doubt very creepy at night. Maybe this wasn't a good idea... No. I had to investigate this, to feed my hungering curiosity.
As soon as I walked out of the house, I saw that it was complete chaos. The dozens of police officers that were outside turned towards me. They probably didn't want me out here this late. I chose to ignore this and turned toward the usual route to Onett town. Perhaps it crashed there. I prayed that the cops would interfere with my mission. There were barriers blocking off the road. "Excuse me! Can I get through?" I asked. The officers stood their ground and didn't let me through. I turned around and walked off towards the hill behind my house. Perhaps there was a chance that the unidentified object crash landed over there.
There were cops there as well, and my journey there was nothing but cops telling me to go back to sleep. The police officers scolding me got annoying really quick, and after a while, I decided to sneak through the foliage to hide myself from the cops. A few minutes later, I finally got to the top of the hill. I got a few scratches from the branches and thorns, but it was better than listening to those cops bicker. I found out what the source of the earthquake was. A meteorite crashed into the ground, and I was living near the epicenter of the impact!
"No way..."
I ran up to get a closer look at it, but the path was blocked off. Typical.
I furiously stomped toward one of the cops, ready to let them have it, but before I could say anything, the cop spoke.
"Nice timing, Ness. Can you do something about Pokey? He's driving me nuts." He pointed towards a chubby blond kid who was running around the other officers, shouting something unintelligible. "Are you two friends?" I thought about this for a while, and finally nodded my head, even though it really wasn't all that true. The kid annoyed me so much, so of course we weren't really friends. "Yup!" I responded. "Best friends..." The cop put his hand over his chin and looked down. "And you live in the house next to his... I see..."
Pokey walked up to me, a smirk on his... Wait was it a smirk? His blond hair was covering his eyes, so it was hard to tell. "Hey Ness. Don't be rubberneckin'. You're getting in the cops, oops... officer's way! You can go home now."
"But I want to-"
"Tomorrow I, Pokey, will tell you more about the strange meteorite." He shrugged and shooed me off like a fly, which made my blood boil. "I'm fine here, but you're bugging the officers!"
Ah, the irony.
Since I couldn't do anything, I admitted defeat and decided to walk back home, where Mom was outside to greet me. "Welcome home, Ness!" she chirped. "It's not necessary to talk about it tonight. It's late, scoot off to bed now..."
...
Again, I woke up from my slumber. There was someone pounding loudly on the front door. Who could it be? And why so late? I walked out of my room and heard Tracy fuming. "Someone's knocking on the door. What an annoying knock!" Downstairs, I saw Mom staring at the door with a puzzled look. "Oh my land!" she exclaimed. "Who could be knocking at this time of night? Can you please get it Ness?" I gave her a thumbs up and ran towards the door.
I approached the door cautiously and slowly turned the doorknob. At first it was hard to see who it was, but the red and blue lights from the police cars outside outlined his appearance just a little bit. The long hair, the sloppy posture, the chubby figure... To confirm it, I turned on the porch light.
It was Pokey. And boy did he look terrified.
