Part 9
You stared out the window of Suga's SUV as you pulled up into a back road. After you and Suga finished cleaning the body, it took maybe two hours for the boys to pack the entire house up and load it into the backs of the two SUVs. You were also asked to pack up and it only took you a fraction of that time to get your things together.
You were surprised when the boys were loading the cars to see your messenger bag along with everything else. The messenger bag that still contained your phone and your laptop. You wondered if you would ever get the chance to use them again.
After the incident with the intruders, it was obvious that it was time to pack up. You knew that this house was no longer safe for any of you. If two lower gang members were able to figure out where the Bulletproof Gang lived than it was only a matter of time before others came to the house, the police included.
RM and Jin had helped pack up the cars, but they didn't come with the rest of you to the new house. They took a different car and went off after convening with Suga. So that left you, Suga, and Jimin in one car with J-Hope, Jungkook and V in the other. Jimin was driving again and you wondered if he was always the designated driver. He seemed always to drive, and he always seemed to drive Suga specifically. You wondered if there was something there.
As the car rolled down the back road, you realized that you hadn't been asked to wear a blindfold. The thought occurred to you, and then you dismissed it almost immediately. It wouldn't have mattered either way because you still had no idea where you were. You concluded that this must have been on the opposite end of the city because you didn't recognize anything.
Eventually, the car turned into a long driveway in the middle of nowhere. You stared out of the window to see a huge mansion surrounded by a thicket. You stared in awe as the car pulled into the front of the house. You had never seen a house this big in your life and you wondered for a second if you were dreaming.
"We're here, little firecracker." Suga said, pulling you from your thoughts. You pushed the car door open and stepped out into the fresh air. Staring all around you, you were in awe of the landscape. The garden in front of the house didn't look all that well kept up and the mansion itself looked old and almost abandoned. But it was still enormous.
"What is this place?" You asked, watching as Jimin popped open the trunk of the SUV and started unpacking. Suga's phone rang and he walked away, answering it in hushed tones. You joined Jimin and helped him with the bags.
"This is our safe house." Jimin said ambiguously, straining slightly under the weight of the bags.
"Yeah, this seems more like a safe castle to me. Why don't you live here usually?" You asked, following Jimin up to the front door, three bags in tow. Jimin fished out his keys, fumbled with the lock for a few seconds before finding the right one, and opened the door.
"It's pretty far out of the way from everything that happens in the city. We wanted to be closer to all our business in the city. This is Suga's family's house." Jimin said vaguely.
You pursed your lips and narrowed your eyes as you stepped into the foyer. Jimin wasn't telling you the whole story, that much you could deduce. But you knew that you probably didn't deserve to be told anything. Even though you had survived the incident with the others, you were technically on probation.
Your doubts melted away as you stared around at the huge foyer. It really did look like the inside of a castle. Even though it was dark and dusty, the pure design and architecture was stunning. You slung your bag over your shoulder and stared around in awe as the other boys filed inside one by one, making a few trips to get all the bags. Jungkook let out a loud groan of relief when he put the last bag down. He grabbed his own two suitcases and walked towards the large staircase. He glanced back at you for a second, watching as you admired the building. You caught his eye and saw something soft in his gaze, before it hardened and he looked away.
"I'm going to bed." He announced. "Wake me in twenty years." With that, he stalked off and disappeared up the stairs. You heard a soft chuckle behind you and turned around to see V and J-hope moving to follow Jungkook.
"That was a little dramatic, but he has the right idea. I think we all need rest." J-Hope said. He gave you a soft smile and walked past you as well with V close behind. You turned to face Suga and Jimin. Jimin grabbed his bag and winked at you, before also following his comrades. Suga was still on his phone and you waited patiently until he finally hung up. He looked up to see you still standing there.
"You okay, little firecracker?" He asked, slinging his bag over his shoulder. You swallowed and nodded.
"Yeah, I'm fine, I just... where should I go to sleep?" you asked cautiously. Suga blinked and then let out a loud laugh. You flinched at the sound, not expecting it at all. Had Suga ever truly laughed unironically in your presence before? You didn't think so.
"I'm sorry, Y/N, I totally forgot during the move. It's been a little hectic since we've been trying to locate the people who sent those men." He said, smiling apologetically. "Come with me."
You followed him through the mansion and up to the second floor. You realized that there were three floors in this house and you itched to explore the place. Suga showed you to a room at the end of a hallway. You stepped inside and looked around in awe. This was much bigger than your closet and your own room back home.
"We have plenty of extra rooms here, so you don't have to worry about any of that." Suga said softly. You turned to look at him leaning against the doorframe. You deduced that you were joined with the soft side of Suga and you couldn't pretend that you were happy he was no longer cruel and ruthless Suga. You realized that you were staring to get the hang of Suga's dual personalities. Maybe you would be able to figure him out after all.
"Thank you." You said, nodding your head at him. Suga jerked his head to the side.
"My room is right next door. You have your own bathroom and closet, so feel free to spread but. Although we may have to move at any time on short notice, so I'd advise you not to spread out too much." Suga advised. You nodded and Suga gave you a soft smile.
"Get some sleep. We'll see you tomorrow." With that, Suga closed the door gently behind him, leaving you alone.
You exhaled and turned to your new room, the events of the last several hours finally catching up with you. You dropped your bag to the group and tumbled into the large queen bed, groaning in the comfy sheets. You stretched out on the bed and smiled into the pillows, drifting off to sleep, quicker than you had in weeks.
The next day, you took a long shower in your new walk-in bathroom. It was the nicest shower that you'd had in weeks, ever since you moved in with the gang members. The hot water relaxed your tense muscles and it even made the bruising around your head and neck feel better. There was still a large gash on your neck, but it had scabbed over and now just looked like a dark red mark from afar.
You finished your shower and pulled your hair back into a braid before walking out of your room. You were wearing what you normally wore, leggings and a tank top with boring tennis shoes. It was surprisingly warm in the mansion. Perhaps they didn't have an air conditioner system set up yet.
You walked down to the first floor and followed the sound of male voices coming from one of the rooms. You entered the room to see Suga, Jungkook, and Jimin standing around a counter. You recognized the room as a barely used kitchen. When they heard you walk in, the three men turned their heads to look at you. You swallowed and clasped your hand together.
"Um... hello." You said awkwardly. Jimin smiled at you, while Jungkook continued to stare, unamused with your presence.
"Y/N! We were just talking about you." Jimin said cheerfully. You blinked and wondered fleetingly how he was able to remain so cheerful all the time even when it felt like everything was so bleak.
"Yes, we were just discussing how well you handled yourself during the attack." Suga continued, walking around the counter. You looked into his eyes and tried to identify the Suga that you would be faced with today: gang leader, or real person?
"I just tried to do what I could to stay alive." You said, shrugging slightly. Suga scanned your body up and down and you blushed, feeling both uncomfortable and excited by his stare.
"Yeah, I never got apologize for leaving you like that." Jimin said, "I really am sorry I left you with the attacker. I needed to regroup and I didn't think he'd be stupid enough to kill his leverage. I also never thought that you'd be able to handle him all by yourself, so seriously well done there." Jimin praised. You were about to thank him, when Suga cut you off.
"That being said, I realize that we may not have prepared you enough for that whole scenario. Luckily, this house has quite a few accommodations to help in that regard." Suga said, nodding to Jungkook. "I've asked Jungkook to give you the basic training in close combat. You never know if you'll need it during your stay here."
You swallowed hard, panning your eyes to Jungkook. I there was one person who still hated you with a passion, it was him. And his expression did nothing to satisfy your churning stomach. He was glaring hard at you with gritted teeth and pursed lips. You licked your lips and stepped back as he moved forward and beckoned you to follow him.
You glanced back at Suga and Jimin. Jimin offered you an encouraging thumbs-up, and Suga simply raised an eyebrow at you, as if daring you to protest. You sighed in defeat and followed after Jungkook, rubbing your hands together nervously.
He led you through the house, still on the first floor, to a back room. He opened the door and you were surprised to see a gym inside. There were punching bags, free weights, some weight machines, a treadmill, and a boxing ring all set up in the room in different corners. You stared around in surprise as Jungkook went off to a corner. He grabbed something and walked back over to you. You looked down at what he was holding and recognized it as boxing straps.
He unraveled one of the straps and held it out to you. You took the strap and awkwardly wrapped it around your hand and wrist. Jungkook frowned at your handiwork and rolled his eyes. He grabbed your wrist and started to wrap your hands himself. You tried not to react to how close he was to you. You could almost feel the warmth of his breath.
"So, did you sleep well?" You asked, breaking the awkward silence. Jungkook glanced up at you and you flinched at his harsh gaze.
"No." He said tersely. He finished wrapping your hands and proceeded to wrap his own.
"Um... I'm sorry." You said quietly, not entirely sure how to respond. He rolled his eyes at you and you tried to apologize again. "I'm sorry you have to train me. I didn't know Suga would ask you to do this." You said sincerely.
"Oh no, I volunteered." Jungkook retorted easily, causing you to pause in surprise. You stared at him in confusion as Jungkook looked back up into your eyes. You shivered at the malicious intent in his eyes and you saw the ghost of a smirk on his lips. A wave of fear ran through your body and you wring your hands together, feeling over the straps.
"I-um... can I ask why?" You said cautiously. Jungkook stepped back from you and started to stretch his limbs out. He cracked his neck and you flinched at the harsh sound. He smirked nastily at you.
"You may have everyone else fooled with your innocent doe-eyed act, but I can see right through you. I know you're hiding something from us, and I know that there's more to you than meets the eye." He tilted his head to gage your reaction.
You tried to keep your face neutral, but your heart was thumping. Had you truly been so transparent? Jimin had already figured something was off about you, but he had been gracious enough not to dig deeper. Now you find out that Jungkook had been watching you when you didn't even realize it? If you weren't careful, you knew that they would find out about you. And then they would kill you.
"So yeah, I volunteered to train you. Don't worry, I'll keep my word. I'll teach you to fight. But don't think I won't be watching you. What is that saying? 'Keep your friends close and your enemies closer'."
"I'm not your enemy." You said quietly. Jungkook shrugged.
"I think I'll be the judge of that." He replied. He gestured to the boxing ring and you followed him up to it. You climbed into the ring behind him and leaned against the ropes as Jungkook bounced around, warming up.
"So... what are we doing? Am I just supposed to start throwing punches?" You asked, cautiously moving to the center of the ring. Jungkook laughed at your question and turned to face you, throwing a few mock punches.
"I haven't thought of it that way, but sure, if you want to call it that. Your goal today is to land one clean hit on me. You just have to hit me once and we'll call it a day. Until you do that, we'll keep going." Jungkook said, squaring up in front of you. You scrunched your lips up and raised your fists.
"Well, sounds easy enough." You said ignorantly, watching as Jungkook's eyes glinted.
Sweat dribbled down your cheeks and onto your chest. You wiped your upper lip with the back of your arm and leaned against the ropes of the ring, panting hard. Jungkook paced in front of you, his face also a mess of sweat, but he was still in full form.
It had been a good hour and you still had not been able to land a single hit on him. Jungkook had been basically toying with you, ducking and dodging and spinning out of the way of your fists. He laughed every time you missed, and sometimes hit you back just for good measure. Your stomach was sore from the number of times he had gutted you. He wasn't giving you any instruction or anything and was instead reprimanding you on every little thing.
Your feet are too far apart. You move like a snail. You call that a fist? Keep that up and we'll be here for a year.
"This is ridiculous." You complained, pushing yourself to stand on your own. Your legs were shaking and your calves ached. You put your palms on your knees and breathed heavily, trying to catch your breath.
"I'm having a lot of fun, so I beg to differ." He sneered. He jabbed your shoulder and you let out a yelp. "Come on, we're not done. You still haven't hit me."
You sluggishly moved to the center and lifted your fists.
"You're not even helping me. You're not telling me what to do." You whined as Jungkook started dancing around you again. You tried to jab him in the chest, but he easily knocked your arm away and punched you right back in the chest.
"I have told you what to do. Land a good hit on me. Doesn't matter how you do it. Use your head." He said unhelpfully. You sighed in exasperation and tried to punch him again. Your fist missed his chest completely as he spun away.
"So slow... so disappointing." Jungkook muttered disapprovingly.
You felt a wave of indignation rise in your throat and you dropped your fists, stomping on the ground.
"I give up! I can't do this. You haven't taught me anything at all. All you've done is play around with me, and I don't appreciate it. I've had enough." You cried out. You turned and started to leave the ring when Jungkook's hand found your shoulder.
He spun you back around, and using the momentum of his pull, you drew your fist back and threw it into his stomach, landing a clean hit. Jungkook let out a small 'oof' and stumbled back a few feet, surprised from the impact. You grinned when he shook his head and look up at you. He realized what you had done and his face fell. You jumped up in victory and pumped your fist.
"Hah! I got you!" You exclaimed. Jungkook straightened back up and frowned.
"That wasn't very... conventional." He said in a disapproving tone. You pursed your lips and put your fists on your waist.
"You didn't say it had to be conventional. You said it didn't matter how I did it. I got a clean hit on you and that was the deal, right?" You snapped indignantly. You raised an eyebrow at him and Jungkook surveyed your face.
Then his face split into a grin and he burst out laughing. You were slightly taken aback by the sudden display of emotion.
"I did say that, didn't I? Well, I guess you got me then. Nice job, little firecracker." Jungkook said nodding at you. You stared in surprise as Jungkook jumped out of the ring and walked over to his water bottle. As you watched him drink and chuckle to himself, you couldn't help but smile a little. You could tell that you were growing on him. Jungkook may pretend to hate you, but you knew that you might have gotten to him just a little.
How did you know?
Well, quite simple because he called you by the little nickname that you had become so accustomed to hearing.
Nice job, little firecracker.
