Part 7
The first thing that woke you up was pain. It wasn't a pain that was confined to one area, the pain was everywhere. In your head, your neck, your nose, your arms, everywhere. You let out a loud moan as you peeled your eyes open. The second thing that you realized was that you were alive. Injured and in pain, but alive.
You blinked vigorously, trying to clear your vision. You squinted around you to see that you were on a large king-sized bed. You saw the huge complex desktop in the corner of the room and concluded that you were in Jimin's room. Why were you in Jimin's room? Why were you even alive? You thought Suga had killed you, or was going to kill you after you had spit in his face.
Looking back, it probably wasn't the smartest move on your part, but you had been so consumed with rage that it didn't even matter anymore.
You tried to sit up, but your head started throbbing and you groaned, surrendering in your attempt. You heard some footsteps and you lifted your head slightly to see Jimin in the doorway. His eyes were blank and his mouth was turned down at the corners as you stared at each other.
"Why am I here?" You broke the silence, your voice coming our scratchy and hoarse. Jimin pursed his lips and stepped inside the room, making his way over to his computer. He sat down and turned on his swivel chair to face you.
"I offered to watch you until you woke up." He said simply. You tried to swallow but it hurt and you winced. You moved a hand to your throat and ran your fingers over the tender bruised skin over your neck. Suga had really done a number on you.
"I meant, why am I alive?" You clarified again, clearing your throat painfully. Jimin leaned on his elbows and narrowed his eyes at you.
"You're lucky you're alive. After you passed out, Suga asked me to check on the damage you did on the computer. It turns out that I could actually retrieve most of the files you tried to delete, so the damage wasn't that bad." You looked down, mentally cursing yourself. Your attempt to sabotage them hadn't worked. Maybe if you had been in a better state of mind you could have truly hurt them where it counted.
"I convinced Suga to let you live, since you technically didn't really hurt us in any way." Jimin continued. You looked back up at him in confusion.
"Why would you do that?" You asked, trying to clear your throat again. Jimin sighed and shook his head, like he was asking himself that same question.
"I don't know... maybe because I believe that everyone deserves a second chance." He said softly. You peered into his gaze and realized that even though he was a ruthless gang member, you had no idea who he had been before this life. You were sure that he wasn't born into this. From the kindness he'd shown you over the past few weeks, save for last night, there was no way Jimin was raised in an environment as hateful as this.
"But you know... just because I believe in second chances, doesn't mean he does." Jimin continued, crossing his arms. He gave you a stern look and you swallowed. "If you ever pull something like this again, then I won't stop him from killing you. In fact, I might volunteer to do the honors." He threatened in a low voice. You swallowed hard and felt a spark of fear shoot through you at his harsh words. "Do you understand me?" He finished, raising a brow at you. You nodded sheepishly avoiding eye contact.
If there was one thing you knew now, it was that you didn't want to die. Maybe you were ready to die before, but you knew that death was the last thing you wanted. You had suffered too many times and endured so much in your life to throw it all away. As much as the Bulletproof Gang sickened you, you wouldn't do anyone any good if you were dead.
"Look, I need to inform Suga that you're awake, but I wanted to ask you a few questions first." Jimin said, sighing and running a hand through his hair. You forced yourself to sit up and leaned against the headboard, wincing at the sparks of pain through your head and neck.
"How long have I been out?" You asked, lifting a hand to rub the back of your head. You flinched and pulled your hand back when it found a large nasty bump that hurt to the touch.
"About a day. To be honest, I was expecting you to be out longer. You're seriously lucky not to have been hurt more than you are. You only have a mild concussion and some bruises." Jimin deadpanned, rubbing his chin.
"Yeah, well lucky I have a pretty high pain tolerance." You muttered rubbing your neck, which was still sore from when Suga had choked you. You knew that there were probably dark ugly bruises in the shape of fingers there. "What did you want to ask me?" You continued.
Jimin sighed and looked down at the ground for a second before back up at you. You were surprised to see a spark of concern in his gaze. Wasn't he just threatening to kill you if you stepped out of line? You swore you would never understand these boys and their mood swings.
"When Suga was... teaching you a lesson," Jimin started, dancing around his words. You narrowed your eyes at his choice of words but didn't say anything. "You didn't really react the way a normal person would." Jimin finished, gaging your reaction. You scrunched your eyebrows together, trying to figure out where he was going with this.
"Um, okay... how would a normal person react?"
"Well most people start screaming or crying, or both." Jimin said shrugging. You raised an eyebrow.
"Most people? I wasn't aware that you're such an expert." You snapped, causing Jimin to crack a ghost of a smile.
"Anyway, most people would have begged for him to stop or offered anything for him to spare their life. You didn't do any of those things. You took the punches without so much as a whimper. And then you still had the audacity to spit in his face."
"I was angry. I wanted him to feel my disgust." You said, shrugging. You didn't really have any other explanation.
"Sure, but your reaction made me think that that wasn't the only reason that you so easily took a beating." Jimin said, narrowing his eyes. "It makes me think that this isn't the first time you've been hit." He finished.
Your blood ran cold and your mouth parted like you'd been slapped in the face. Suppressed memories came flooding back to you in a rush: you hiding behind a chair, the screams when a beer bottle was smashed over your head, the emergency room's white walls when you had been administered with cracked ribs and a punctured lung...
You cleared your throat and looked down, forcing the tears back. You forced yourself to breathe, even though you felt like you were choking. Somehow, Jimin hadn't noticed your reaction to his words, and continued to speak.
"Y/N, have you been abused before?" He asked.
You took a deep breath and forced your face to remain impassive. You lifted your head to meet his eyes and have him a nonchalant smile.
"I'm a computer geek." You said easily, shrugging. "I got beat up a lot in high school. So, I learned how to take a punch, no big deal." You prayed that Jimin would buy it. Jimin narrowed his eyes, like he was deciding whether or not to believe you.
"Jimin, seriously. The only violence I've ever been exposed to is childhood stupidity like getting pushed into lockers. Honestly, I don't know where you got that idea." You said quickly after too long a silence. Jimin sighed.
"Okay, well I just wanted to make sure. You know, you're starting to grow on me, firecracker." He cracked a smile, but you didn't return it. You looked away and you heard Jimin sigh.
"Y/N..." he said softly. You gritted your teeth and swallowed hard, wincing at the pain in your throat.
"Is there anything else?" You cut him off and turned your head to meet his gaze once again. His expression was filled with concern and you felt your stomach churn nauseously. The way these people could flip emotions so easily was unsettling and you wished you could read people better.
"If there isn't, then I should go back to my room." You said when Jimin didn't answer. You sat up from the bed, trying to hide your wince and moved to get up from the bed.
"Y/N, wait." Jimin stood up and held his hand out. "You shouldn't leave just yet. Suga still wants to speak with you." You exhaled sharply, but still moved back into the bed, resting your head on the headboard.
Jimin was about to leave the room, when he paused and looked back at you.
"Y/N, I know you don't agree with the way things are done around here, but I promise you it's not all bad. You should give us a chance. We may surprise you." Jimin said sincerely. He left the room, leaving you speechless.
"I highly doubt that." You muttered. You wrung your hands together and looked out the window of the bedroom.
You knew you had sealed your fate when you had agreed to go with Suga all those weeks ago. You knew you were going to enter your very own personal hell. But even with the knowledge, you had still been surprised at what you had found here. You had hoped that these men weren't as bad as their files suggested. You had hoped that somewhere deep down, there was still some humanity left in the Bulletproof Gang. You had been wrong.
Once again, it had proven to you that you should trust what you see, not what you hope. You entire job before this had been dedicated to finding as much information on these notorious men as you could. You had found more than a few occasions that sent shills down your spine, but none that made you sick to your stomach like what you had found on Jimin's computer. And you knew you had only scratched the surface.
You could never trust these men. No matter how nice they seemed, no matter how easily they smiled at you. They all worked for the same man. They all worked for the same monster who had punched you first, before asking questions. You had discovered Suga's true personality that night. You had discovered that he had a temper with a short fuse. It hadn't even taken that much to make him snap. And when he did, he became someone with no remorse who would rather kill a problem, than try to fix it.
Speaking of the devil, you took in a sharp breath with Suga himself stepped into the threshold. You looked up into his black eyes and your anger seemed to return in an instant. You clenched your fists and forced yourself to bite your tongue so you wouldn't swear at him. Suga's expression was blank as he tilted his head and studied you.
"From your expression of barely contained anger, it appears you didn't learn your lesson last night." Suga said matter-of-factly. There was a hint of laughter in his voice and you wanted to punch him. There was nothing funny about this situation. There was nothing funny about abuse.
"And what lesson would that be?" You hissed, lacing your tone with venom. Suga's mouth quirked and you could see Jimin sighing in disappointment.
"Well for starters, not talking back. Or speaking to me at all with a tone of disrespect." Suga said, crossing his arms. He quirked an eyebrow at you and you lifted your chin, defiance flooding your system. For some reason, what had happened to you the night before hadn't deterred you boldness, only increased it.
"The only lesson I learned last night was how much it takes for you to snap." You replied easily. Suga's eyes glinted and you realized that he was laughing. You realized that your defiance wasn't making him upset or angry, only amused. And that thought only amplified your own hatred toward him.
"So you think you have me all figured out, do you?" Suga said, smirking nastily. You closed your mouth and swallowed. No, that was far from the truth. Last night had only made you even more confused about who he was. And he seemed to know it, which only pissed you off further.
"I hate to break it to you, little firecracker, but there is more than one form of punishment for your insubordination. I promise you, if you ever try anything like what you did yesterday, you will be begging for me to snap."
"What, are you going to hit me again? I'm not afraid of you." You snarled. Suga let out a loud laugh and you were momentarily caught off-guard. It was getting frustrating that you couldn't provoke him in any way.
"You should be, little firecracker." He winked at you before turning on his heel and leaving the room. You glared at the space he had been standing, more angry than you had been before he walked in.
Jimin slowly stood in the threshold, giving you a disappointed look.
"What?" You said abruptly, causing Jimin to sigh and rub his temples.
"Remember when I said that you got lucky with this second chance? You're pushing your luck, Y/N. push any more and you'll be sorry."
"I'm sorry, I don't care if he bangs my head against the wall over and over again, if he pushes me I will push back. I'm not some fragile vulnerable girl that you can all push around. I'm not like the girls in your computer."
You felt a small sense of satisfaction when Jimin visibly flinched at your words. It was good to know that he at least felt some remorse for the unspeakable actions he and his accomplices performed every day.
"Okay, look. I didn't want to have to bring this up, but you're leaving me no choice." Jimin looked back up at you and you swallowed. Any sign of warmth in his gaze was gone and he was left giving you the coldest stare, you could almost feel the ice.
"You are only here because your deadbeat father owes us quite a large sum of money. As long as you're here, your father stays alive long enough to retrieve our money. However, if you prove to be more trouble than your worth, then there's no reason to keep either of you alive." You gulped at his freezing tone. Chills ran up your spine at the threat. "I would advise you to work on being useful to us instead of being a pain in our backside. Your life and your father's life literally depend on it."
You exhaled sharply as Jimin's gaze held yours for a second too long, like he was making sure you got the message.
"Do I make myself clear?" You nodded quickly, sitting on your hands, so he didn't see them shaking.
"Good. Now, when you feel up for it, I want you to go apologize to Suga." Jimin finished, turning to leave the room.
"Wait, what? Why would I do that?" You protested. Jimin paused and turned back to give you a knowing look.
"You already have two strikes against you, little firecracker. One more, and it's lights out. You want to win back all the points you can."
That evening, you managed to get up out of Jimin's bed and walk around without wincing with every step. Your head was still hurting, but at least the rest of your muscles had loosened up. You had been given some pain killers and a bowl of soup, but other than that, there that been no other interaction with the boys. Not that you were complaining, you really needed to collect your thoughts.
You knew that you were walking on eggshells. This whole experience made you realize that you really did want to live. You had been so angry yesterday that you hadn't been thinking clearly. Even though your life seemed to be over, that wasn't true at all. You had to have faith that your father would collect the money in time. You had to believe that he was still the same father you loved and cared about you and would do everything in his power to free you from this hellhole. And once he did, you could leave this place and then expose them for the monsters they were. You just had to bide your time. you would be able to make them all pay for what they had done to you, your family, and the 246 victims on Jimin's computer.
In order to remain off the radar, you had to make nice with everyone. And that had to start with the devil himself. You had to make nice with Suga before you could do anything else. As long as you quelled your temper and stayed out of the way, it would pay off and you would have your revenge.
Using the wall as your support, you made your way out of Jimin's room and toward Suga's. You reached the closed door and took a deep breath before knocking loudly. You heard a faint 'come in' from inside and you pushed the door open, stepping in the threshold.
Suga was sitting on his couch with his laptop in his lap. You saw your messenger bag on the coffee table and felt a pang in your chest. You really really wanted get your hands on your own electronic device. It really did feel like withdrawal or something. Suga turned his head to meet your eyes and shut his laptop sharply. You swallowed as he stood and turned to face you.
"This is a surprise. What can I do for you, little firecracker?" There was a ghost of a smile on his face and you couldn't help but look down at his hands. There was slight bruising on his knuckles from when he punched you the night before, but other than that there was nothing that would suggest he'd ever laid on a hand on you. You on the other hand had more than enough evidence on your body so you knew it had happened.
"I came to apologize to you." You said, gripping the doorframe hard to keep yourself from growling. For some reason, being in his presence made all the reason fly out of your head and you were left with the overwhelming anger.
"You don't look very apologetic." Suga commented, smirking at your obvious discomfort. You clenched your jaw and looked away for a second before taking a deep breath and turning your head back to him.
"I am. I'm sorry for disrespecting you, and for going after you on Jimin's computer." You rushed out, forcing yourself to look him in the eye. He had to at least believe you a little bit. If he didn't, then this would all be for nothing. Suga's cold smirk faded slightly as he looked away from you for a second. He took in a sharp breath and crossed his arms.
"I accept your apology." He said sincerely. You breathed a sigh of relief and turned to leave when he started speaking again. He wasn't finished. "I believe I also owe you an apology." You paused and stared in surprise. Those were the last words you expected to hear from him.
"After thinking about it a little, and receiving the entire story from Jimin, I can understand why you were behaving the way you were. I understand why you reacted the way you did when you found out about... the camps."
You inhaled sharply and swallowed the saliva that seemed to pool on your tongue. Suga looked up at you and you were taken aback by the emotion in his eyes. It was the first time he had looked at you without the hard cold wall that you had become used to seeing. You noticed a muscle in his jaw flex and retract and you couldn't look away. He was hypnotizing.
"I apologize for losing my temper on you. I have trouble controlling my emotions sometimes and it got the better of me this time. I promise, I will try not to become so angry in the future." He bowed his head to you and you felt your heart skip a beat.
The nefarious Agust D was apologizing? And to you of all people. You were nothing but a hostage in his house, not a guest, not a prisoner. And yet he felt decent enough to apologize? This was exactly the opposite of what you had been expecting when you knocked on the door. How were you supposed to interpret this new side of him?
"Of course, I hope in return you won't try to provoke my anger." Suga added, giving you a knowing smile. You blushed hard and looked away. You nodded submissively.
"Yes, of course. I am sorry for what I said." You muttered, not trusting yourself to look him in the eye or to speak any louder.
You heard footsteps and your eyes widened as you looked up to see Suga was suddenly directly in front of you. Now at a closer proximity, you breath seemed to get caught in your throat and you gasped and one of his hands grazed over your neck, presumably over the bruises there. He withdrew his hand from your neck and held it out for you to take.
"I have some ointment that should help with the bruises. Come with me." He said, waiting expectantly for you to take his hand. You looked down at it and already had to refusal on your tongue. You head screamed at you to turn him down, to walk away. But you couldn't. Something drew you to him and you placed your hand in his before you could even form the full thought.
He smiled and pulled you further into his room as your mind went hazy with confusion and protest. He was dangerous, he was a murderer. And yet... and yet... his grip was so tender and his gaze was soft. Looking at this man now, you felt safe. You couldn't explain it, since he had basically beaten you half to death just the night before, but you felt secure with him.
It was almost like you were with a different person. This wasn't the cruel, ruthless gang leader, but someone else entirely. And you were enticed by this new side to Suga. You wanted to learn more about him. You were letting yourself get sucked in by his mystery, his enigmatic personality, his dark mind, all of it...
