Part 20
You paced around the small white room, clutching the ends of your jumpsuit. After Luke had left the interrogation room, an officer came in and basically admitted you to the station as a temporary inmate. You were given a grey jumpsuit and placed in what felt like a cell. It was a white room with a small barred window, a cot, a toilet, and a sink. The door was locked at all times save for when an officer came in to give you food.
Maybe this was meant to scare you, but you had already been at the station for three days and had heard nothing from Luke, the female detective, or anyone else. You were more irritated than you were afraid. You knew absolutely nothing and no one had bothered to update you at all. You didn't know if Suga and the others had gotten away, or if you really had been incriminated, or what.
There was a camera at the top corner of your room. You noticed it immediately when you had been escorted to the room. With that thing watching over you, it felt wrong to even think, let alone sleep and use the toilet.
There was something different about today. When you had woken up that morning and eaten your first meal, you could feel it. You weren't sure if it was just an irrational sense from the emotional buildup, or if you had just gone crazy, but you could feel that something was off. It was a sunny day, the first sunny day since the car chase. And now that you had been getting real food in your system, you felt stronger and more alert.
Something was going to happen today. You just had to be ready for it when it did.
You heard the keys to your door jungle and you paused in your pacing. You stepped back from door as it opened and Officer Brown walked in with a cart for your second meal of the day. Brown was a middle-aged man with a square face and small eyes. He had been assigned to bring you your meals and was less than cooperative when you asked him about what was happening.
"Lunchtime, sweetheart." He said cheerfully, fully stepping into the room. You narrowed your eyes when the door shut behind him.
"Already?" You asked nonchalantly, sitting down on the cot. Brown had never done anything outright, but you knew that he found you more than a little attractive. From the way he always stared at your chest and eyed your legs through your jumpsuit, you knew that he was a predator. There was something off about today's advances, though.
"Well, I hope so. It's always nice to get to spend what little time I can with you." Brown parked the cart and lifted the cover of the plate. You peered over to see some grilled chicken and steamed broccoli on a metal plate. A fork lay next to the plate, but no knife. Suddenly, Brown's face swam in front of you and you jerked back from his proximity. He was merely a foot away from your face now.
"Um, well thanks, I guess." You stepped off the bed and backed away from Brown. He smiled and turned to face you, his eyes trailing down your face to your chest. You frowned, not liking this one bit. There was no way he could just shut himself in here and have his way with you. There was no way they would allow it. The cameras...
Your eyed widened as you turned to look at the camera in the corner. You watched it to see if the little blinked red light was still there, which meant it was still on. But as you stared at the camera, your heart sank when there was no flashing red light. The camera wasn't on, which meant you were completely alone all over again.
You clenched your fists and turned your head back to Brown, who was still staring at your chest.
"Don't you have somewhere to be?" You snapped, pulling him attention back to your face. He shrugged and moved closer to you. You ducked around him and made your way over to the cart of food. You closed your hand around the fork, narrowing your eyes as you felt his body inch closer to yours.
"I'd much rather be in here with you. It's been torture having to leave you in here all by yourself. I though you could use some company." You heard him behind you and you shivered as you felt his breath on the back of your neck.
Your fists clenched and you were about to swing your hand around to stab him with the fork when a large ringing sounded through the room and down the hall outside. You heard Brown gasp and step back. You were caught off-guard for a split second by the sound. An alarm.
Without thinking, you whipped around and brought the fork over your shoulder. You stabbed Brown right in the side of his thigh. He screamed as you released the fork and stumbled back. Brown instinctively yanked the fork out of his leg and blood started to spurt out of the open wound. You did a double-take and forced yourself not to gasp at the site. Brown sank down to his knees as you turned around and sprinted to the door. You threw it open and sprinted out of the room and into the hall.
If you hadn't been incriminated before, you sure as hell were now. You had to escape; it was your option. No matter what irrational fear had forced your body to stab an officer of the law, you couldn't think about that.
You stared down the empty hallway of cells, the alarm still blaring and red lights flashing on the ceiling. You assumed the other cells down this hall were mostly unoccupied as there was no one in the hallway. But with Brown screaming bloody murder behind you, you knew it wasn't going to stay that way.
You jogged down the hall, your flimsy state-issued prison shoes squeaking on the floor. You reached the end of the hallway and slowed down as you looked around the corner. Still no one down this hallway, save for an officer standing behind a receptionist desk. She was yelling into a walkie-talkie with one hand on the handle of a taser gun. You gasped as she turned and her eyes connected with yours.
For a few seconds, the two of you stared at each other in shock. Then her eyes panned down to take in the grey jumpsuit, the shoes, and of course the bloodstains on your arm. She dropped the walkie-talkie and you sprang into action. Her hand pulled out her taser gun and she pointed at you as you dove toward her. Before she could pull the trigger, you tackled her to the ground. Your hands were fighting for the gun from her. You knew that you had to get that weapon away from her before she could use it on you.
You slammed her wrist on the ground as she struggled wildly under you. Just as you were about to wrench the gun away from her, she slammed her head hard into yours. You fell back from the impact and managed to compose yourself just in time to dodge the barrel of the gun in your stomach. You jumped back and stood back up as the officer followed suit. The two of you stared at each for a few seconds, weighing, calculating. You had to get that weapon away from her. You could only dodge for so long.
You glanced at the desk next to you and an idea popped in your head. You grabbed a pile of paper from the desk and flung them in the officer's direction. She yelped in the surprise and raised her hands to bat them away. You took the opportunity of surprise and lunged forward. You ducked down and tackled her to the ground, wrapping your arms around her stomach.
Once you were both on the ground again, you used one of your heels and step on the officer's wrist to keep it down so she couldn't use the gun. You grabbed her head in your hands and slammed her head on the floor. She cried out in pain and her body jolted right before it started to relax and her hand started to go limp. You wasted no time in grabbing the gun and tazing the woman's stomach. She made an ugly gurgling sound in the back of her throat, then her eyes lulled to the back of her head and she passed out.
You breathed a sigh of relief and rolled off her, panting heavily. You needed to get out of this station. The alarm had stopped by now, so it was eerily quiet in the hallway. You knew that eventually, the officer you had stabbed would alert his subordinates. You needed to find a way out of here before you were caught.
Tucking the gun in your waistband, you stood up and grabbed the unconscious offer's arms. You dragged her behind the desk, hidden from view. Just as you were about to start to undressing her so you could change into her uniform, you heard a door open from the other end of the hall. You heard hushed voices and you gasped, ducking down behind the deck. You leaned your back against the desk, pulling the gun out of your waistband.
You took a deep breath before holding it, so you were as silent as you could be. You listened to the footsteps approaching, trying to gage how many people were in the hallway. It didn't sound like more than two or three. You closed your eyes and forced your breathing to slow and your heartrate to come down. You strained your ears to age the distance between you and the approaching footsteps. You would have one chance at this because if you messed it up, then you would have blown your element of surprise and you knew you weren't strong enough to overpower more than one cop.
You mentally counted the seconds in your head as the footsteps neared the receptionist desk. You listened intently as the footsteps slowed when they arrived at the desk. If they looked over the desk, then they would see you. It was now or never.
You pushed yourself up and whipped around the desk, sticking the taser gun out in front of you. You had expected the gun to dig into flesh when you would then pull the trigger, but instead, a hand shot out of nowhere, knocking the gun out of the way. The hand attached to that arm then wrapped around your wrist and twisted it hard. You yelped and your grip loosened around the gun. The gun was snatched away from you and you looked up straight into the barrel of a handgun. Your eyes crossed as you focused on the barrel pointed directly at your nose. You blinked to clear your vision and looked past the gun to see who it was attached to.
Your knees buckled and you nearly sagged in relief when Suga's face came into focus. When your gazes met, his eyes widened and he lowered the gun. The grip on your wrist softened and you let out a noise from the back of your throat that was between a whimper and a sob. Without really thinking about it, you stumbled forward and threw your arms around Suga's neck.
"You came..." You whispered burying your mouth into his shoulder. After a few seconds, you felt his arms wrap around your waist and he returned the hug.
"Of course we came. You can't get rid of us that easily." You heard his whisper in return. A smile spread across your face as tears welled up in your eyes. After a minute or two, you finally released him and looked next to him to see Jungkook standing a few feet away, his hand wrapped around the taser gun and another handgun. He smiled at you and nodded and you smiled gratefully in return.
They had truly come for you. For the first time in your life, someone had cared enough about you to help you. Your entire life you had always been forced to go through your problems alone. You never asked anyone for anything because you had always known that owing someone was worse than dealing with your stuff alone. For the first time ever, someone had helped you without you asking, simply because they cared. If you weren't so hyped on adrenaline and hyper-aware of the situation, you may have kissed Suga right then and there.
"How did you guys get in here?" You asked. You then just noticed that both of them were wearing police uniforms.
"J-Hope has a few connections." Suga said, tucking his gun into his holster.
"Where is J-Hope, then? And what was the alarm a few minutes ago?" You continued.
"J-Hope and V are making sure that we don't get caught. We set off the alarm. It was the only way we'd be allowed back here. We also got a distress signal from an officer back in one of the cells right after the alarm went off, so we had a pretty good idea of where to look."
"You're the backup?" You asked the question, but you knew the answer before Suga nodded, confirming it.
"So, now what? How do we get out of here?" you asked, looking between both of the boys.
"We're going to have to take you out of the station, like we're transporting you to another facility." Suga explained. He reached behind him but you cut him off, drawing his attention back to you.
"Before any of that, you should probably know... there's a cop sitting back in my cell with a fork in his leg and..." You gestured behind the desk and watched in anticipation as Jungkook walked around the desk. His eyes widened and he looked up at you in surprise. Suga stepped around you to see what Jungkook was looking at. When he laid eyes on the unconscious officer behind the desk, his jaw tightened, but other than that there was no change in his expression. He was quiet for a few seconds before turning back to you.
"Okay, we can deal with that. But first thing's first, and I'm sorry about this, but..." He pulled something out from behind his back and held it up for you to see.
You heart sank as you looked at the metal handcuffs. Your wrists were still red and sore from wearing them all through the interrogations, but you knew that you wouldn't be getting out of here any time soon without them. You sighed and held your hands out. As Suga fastened the handcuffs to your wrists, his fingers lightly grazed over the red sores on your wrists. You watched as his lips pursed tighter and you wanted nothing more than to know what he was thinking. It was still surreal to think that they were actually here and had actually come for you.
Suga took your arm and pushed you in front of you. As the three of you began to walk down the hall, you started to feel a bit nervous. What if Luke was here? Or that female detective? They would know that you weren't supposed to be moved. Not to mention that they might recognize Suga and Jungkook. On top of that, you weren't sure if Luke and Suga meeting would be the best idea even on friendlier terms.
You sucked in a deep breath as Jungkook opened the door leading to the main lobby of the police station. You looked down at the floor as Suga's hand tightened around your forearm. You could hear your heart beating in your chest as the three of you made your way into the main lobby. Jungkook broke off from you and Suga and you watched with wide eyes as he walked up to another officer. He whispered something to that officer and you realized at the moment that it was J-Hope. You felt utter relief pass over you as J-hope nodded and walked over to you. He gave you a reassuring smile and took your arm.
When you were finally led outside, you let out the first clean breath since the second the alarm had sounded earlier that day. You glanced up as J-Hope led you to a police car. For a split-second, panic rose in your throat. But when the window rolled down and you saw Jimin seated at the wheel, you exhaled hard in relief. The J-Hope opened the back seat and you climbed inside, struggling a bit with your cuffed hands. You turned around and were surprised to see Suga climbing in after you.
"V and I will clean things up here. You guys get back and then get rid of the car." J-Hope said. Suga nodded and responded while Jungkook got into the front seat. J-Hope shut the door behind you two and Jimin started the car.
When you were finally on the road, your eyelids drooped. You hadn't realized how much energy you had been expending throughout your time at the police station. Now that you were finally, finally safe, all of that energy was getting back to you. You were exhausted.
"Y/N?" You turned your head and forced your gaze up to Suga who was watching you in concern. Your lips lifted into a dorky smile. It was amusing to you that this fearless, cruel gang leader could ever feel something like concern towards you, a girl who had started as his prisoner.
"Are you okay?" You felt his hand on your face and you closed your eyes, relishing the warmth from his palm on your forehead.
"I'm fine, I'm good, I'm great..." You mumbled, leaning your forehead into his palm. You watched as his gaze softened and you couldn't help but compare them to obsidian gemstones.
"What's wrong with her?" Your eyelids drooped again and you felt Suga's arms wrap around you and pull you against him. You leaned your head on his chest and smiled as you listened to his beating heart.
"She's exhausted." Suga's voice rumbled in his chest and you snuggled in closer to his warmth. The things they were saying were barely processing in your head. All you wanted to do was sleep.
"I'm not surprised. She took down two officers before we got in there. She was halfway out the door before we ever met up with her." Jungkook said.
"Why would she do that? They weren't going to hurt her, she's technically innocent." You subconscious recognized Jimin's concerned voice.
"It was a stupid move on her part." You smiled at the hum from Suga's chest as he spoke. "She should have waited for us to get there."
"And how was she supposed to know that we were coming for her? She did what she had to and I'm proud of her for getting as far as she did."
"If she didn't succeed, she would definitely be locked up. It was a stupid move."
"Maybe she knew she was already going to be locked up. If we know anything about our little firecracker it's that she doesn't act without thinking. She thought her situation through and decided that attempting to escape was her best option."
Suga sighed and you snuggled in closer to his chest. You were in the state where you were oblivious to your surroundings, but you weren't fully asleep yet. You were just listening to the sound of Suga's heartbeat and breathing in sync with his even breaths. He was a calming presence for you and breathing with him made you feel truly safe, finally.
For the first time in a long time, you felt like you had a family. A real family. People who would help you and support you when no one else would. People you would give up your life for, which you almost did at the car chase. You realized that you loved them. And nothing made you happier that being with him... the one that you...
And before you could finish the thought, your consciousness slipped away into a blissful sleep after such a long time.
