Part 15
You had been standing in front of the door that led to Jimin's room for ten minutes. You didn't know what was about to happen when you opened the door. On one hand, you wanted to apologize and get back into Jimin's good graces, but on the other, you really weren't sorry at all for running away. Even though Suga had forgiven you, and even though you probably would never do it again, you didn't regret it. You had almost done it. You had almost escaped from the most dangerous gang in the country.
Gathering every ounce of courage you had left, you raised your fists and knocked sharply on the door. You waited for a few seconds, listening for movement inside the room. You heard some shuffling and then a pause, but no one came to the door. You frowned and took the initiative, turning the knob and pushing the door open.
You stepped inside the room to see Jimin standing near his computer, his arms crossed. It looked like he had been expecting you to just walk in. You met his gaze and literally felt the ice from his glower. You sucked in a sharp breath and swallowed hard. It was one thing to imagine his reaction, but now you actually had to face him. You weren't sure if you had enough nerve for this.
"He let you out already? Why am I not surprised?" Jimin jeered nastily. You pursed your lips and stepped further inside the room. Jimin narrowed his eyes as you squared your shoulders and held your ground.
"I came to work things out with you." You said sincerely, rubbing your wrists, which were still red and sore from the rope. Jimin scoffed at your statement, causing your stomach to drop.
"Yeah, that's rich. Little princess got caught so now she decides to make things right." He taunted, giving you a nasty sneer. "Spare me your Bambi act. You're nothing but a pathetic fake and I want nothing to do with you." His words cut and you had to force yourself not to cry.
"You can't be angry with me, Jimin. You knew I was capable of this. You basically banked on it when Suga planted me with that man." You said softly, hoping to appeal to him somehow. Jimin let out a humorless laugh.
"I thought I knew you, Y/N. I thought I knew the kind of person you were. That's why I thought you'd be so grateful to us for saving you that you wouldn't defy us anymore." Jimin said angrily, his sardonic humor disappearing. You blinked and stared at him, the words turning over in his head. Why was he talking like... like he had been the one to plan the whole thing?
"It was you." You concluded out loud. "You came up with the idea to use me."
Of course, it made sense. Jimin knew you better than any of the other members. Even though you were unpredictable, he knew you would never pass up the chance to escape. He had used that part of you, that insecure part of you to his advantage. And then he figured you'd be so thankful to them for rescuing you that you would be their little lap dog and no longer cause any problems. It all made sense now.
"Of course it was me, you idiot. Suga asked me for a way to make you more compliant, and I came up with a way to kill two birds with one stone." Jimin said patronizingly, like he was talking to a child. You felt indignation and anger rise in your chest and you gritted your teeth.
"So the only reason you're angry with me is because I didn't follow your stupid plan?" You snarled. Jimin pursed his lips and you bristled. "You prick." You growled, feeling all that suppressed anger flood back into your system.
"You know I thought you'd come to your senses after the first night away from us. I knew where you were twenty minutes after we found the dress." Jimin explained, oblivious to you fuming with clenched fists. "You didn't call the police or contact anyone you knew as far as I could tell, so I thought maybe you were regretting leaving. I was waiting for you to find your way back to us. But you never did and I lost hope for you."
You hadn't realized it because you were too busy seething, but Jimin had been pacing around the room in front of you. He paused to look at you and you dug your fingernails into your palm at his stare.
"You were just laying low. You would have called the police eventually, but you were making sure that we truly didn't know where you were." Jimin analyzed, looking at you like you were a puzzle that he had just solved.
You let out a guttural scream and marched up to him, drawing your fist back. Jimin turned and his eyes widened as you fist connected with his jaw. His head whipped to the side from the impact.
"I am not one of your fucking computer programs, you psychopath. I don't have to conform to a fucking algorithm." You shouted loudly as Jimin rotated his head back to face you. He bared his teeth and you took in a sharp breath before he retaliated.
Quicker than lightning, his fist ducked under your arms and gutted you in the stomach. You let out a small 'oof' as the air left your lungs and you stumbled backwards. Jimin's other fist slammed into your face your head flew backwards. Your back banged into the wall and before you could recover, you felt Jimin wrap one hand on your waist to hold you in place while the other curled around your neck. You gasped and blinked through the pain to look him in the eye.
"Watch your fucking mouth." He snarled. You felt anger and fear settle in your chest and but you held your ground and stared directly back at him. You wouldn't let him intimidate you, not even if he used force.
"You know, I had come here to tell you I regretted running away, but you have just made it all worthwhile. I don't regret it for a single second now that I get to see your face. I will never be one of your pawns, and I hope you rot in hell." You hissed in return, feeling the hand on your waist tighten.
There was a silent pause for a few seconds where you both glared at each other, faces mere inches apart. Suddenly, the door burst open and Jimin's grip slackened.
"What the hell is going on in here?" You turned your head slightly to see Suga march into the room. He grabbed Jimin's shoulder and yanked him off you, releasing you from his chokehold. You panted heavily and ran your fingers along your neck where Jimin's angry grip had been. You didn't fail to notice that even though his hand had been around your neck, he hadn't squeezed once.
"You were supposed to be apologizing." Suga accused, giving you a disappointed look. You rolled your eyes and gave Jimin a nasty smirk.
"Yeah, I don't that will ever happen in this century." You spat maliciously. Jimin scowled as you pushed yourself off the wall. You turned towards the door and started to walk out when Jimin spoke again.
"I was right wasn't I?" He called out, causing you to pause. You turned back to look at him and you saw something else besides anger in his gaze. "I asked you once if you'd ever been abused before. You lied to me back then, didn't you?"
You froze like a deer caught in headlights as both men looked at you expectantly. The suppressed memories that had felt more and more real came rushing back. The image of a belt in the white-knuckled clutches of the man of your nightmares. The blood stained mirror in the small bathroom where he had slammed your head so hard it had cracked. The blood in your underwear when you had made him wait just a little longer than he could handle.
"—Y/N." You looked back up when someone called your name. Both Suga and Jimin were giving you weird looks. You realized that you had been having flashbacks in front of them. It happened sometimes whenever you were reminded of him. Your therapist had claimed it was a side effect of PTSD.
"What happened to you? What happened to make you like this?" You weren't sure which one of them said it, but it didn't really matter. You couldn't really see anything, everything looked fuzzy and blurry.
"You were right." You croaked. "I lied to you. I've been in an abusive relationship." You weren't sure if they were even listening, but you didn't care. The words started to pour out of you before you had any time to think about their consequences.
"I had an abusive boyfriend in high school and college. We were together for five years. It took me five years to finally leave him. The first time we had sex... it wasn't consensual. I wasn't ready, but he claimed he had been waiting too long. I... I never said anything because he was my boyfriend and I thought that's what we were supposed to do. He... he used to hit me whenever he was feeling upset or if he had a bad day. He used me as his personal punching bag and sex toy all through college. I would convince myself that he still loved me and that even though he never said it to me anymore that he still cared and he would never hurt me. I convinced myself that it was my fault. I must have been doing something wrong because why else would he be so angry with me? It wasn't until I ended up in the ER with broken ribs and a punctured lung that I realized I had to leave him. So I packed up my things, got a new job, and moved in with my dad. I haven't spoken to him since the day I got out of the hospital."
There were a few moments of silence after you had finished speaking. You lifted your head, almost forgetting that the two men were still standing there, listening to your story.
"That's why you're able to take a punch so easily." Jimin said quietly.
"And why you got so angry about being used." Suga added.
"I will never be used like that again. No one can ever use my body or my mind without my consent ever again. I didn't survive five years of hell for nothing." You said determinedly, clenched your hands to fists.
You met Suga's gaze and saw the look that everyone gave you when you told them the story. Your father, your therapist, Stacy, Rick, had all given you the same pitiful look. Like you were a wounded puppy in need of fragile care. You hated that look.
"I'm sorry that happened to you." Suga said softly. You gritted your teeth and looked away.
"Yeah, I'm sorry too. But it happened and there's nothing you or anyone can do about it. I don't let it control my life." You said resolutely lifting your chin. You tried to seem more confident than you were.
The boys gave each other a look before looking back at you. Jimin stepped forward and you saw guilt shine in his eyes.
"Y/N... I'm sorry for using you. I'm sorry for trying to utilize you like a program." Jimin said, catching you off-guard. Not two minutes ago, he'd been ready to choke you to death. "The truth is... I felt guilty. You and me... we're more alike than you think. In fact, a couple of years ago, I may have done the same thing you did." He continued. You raised your eyebrows in surprise. Jimin gave Suga a look, almost like he was asking permission to tell the story.
"I was the last of the seven to join the Bulletproof Gang. In fact, I worked for the CIA before I joined here. I was tasked with taking Suga and the others down. Suga caught wind of it and he kidnapped me. I thought he was going to kill me, but instead he gave me a chance to work for him instead. Long story short, omitting a few bumps and hiccups along the way, that's how I became a part of the gang." Jimin finished, smiling at your dumbfounded expression.
"I... wow... why did you tell me all of that?" You asked, trying to compose yourself. Jimin shrugged and smiled, his earlier anger gone.
"Well, you basically just told us your entire backstory so I figured I'd return the favor." He said simply. You blushed and turned away.
It may have been out of embarrassment, but you were only feelings slightly guilty. Although it was true, you had told them the story of your abusive ex-boyfriend, they still had no idea the true history of your past. And as you thought about Jimin's story, the more it made sense. Your research into them had only been dated back for four and half years, about the time when the Bulletproof Gang rose the height of its power. It only made sense that Jimin joining the gang directly influenced its spark in power.
"Y/N..." You looked back up to see Jimin was suddenly standing directly in front of you. "I'm sorry for yelling at you. I consider you a friend, even if it may not be in the most conventional of circumstances." He said sincerely.
Your lips pulled into a shy smile.
"Thanks Jimin, sorry for hitting you. I'm not really good at controlling my temper." You said honestly, causing him to laugh loudly, throwing his head back.
"Yeah, that's saying something!" He exclaimed light-heartedly.
The two of you stared at each other for a few seconds before you both moved at the same time, wrapping your arms tightly around each other. You sighed and felt yourself finally relax ever since you pulled the gun on Suga.
Speaking of the devil, you peered over Jimin's shoulder to him still standing a few feet back, watching your encounter. His lips were tilted into an annoyed frown as he looked at your interaction. For some reason, his expression made you pull away from Jimin's embrace. There was something ugly in Suga's expression and you didn't want to open that can of worms. Not yet anyway.
A week after you returned to the mansion, it was the evening of your first job. The boys had finally warmed back up to you and it was almost like you had never run away at all. There was a slight difference in that you were being treated less like a prisoner or a servant, and more like a weird roommate.
You supposed that although running away was a bold and stupid move, it had also earned you some respect points from the other boys. You were no longer a stupid, defenseless girl who was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. You were now someone who would do anything to survive, just like they were.
Tonight, you sported a scarlet red dress that was much shorter than you were used to. It was skin tight and barely covered your butt, with a plunging neckline. You were wearing a push-up bra that definitely accentuated your... assets... and also wore a shiny silver necklace that drew more attention to your chest. Your hair was pulled into a half-up style with the rest bouncing around in soft waves around your shoulders. You had caked the makeup on as thick as it would go. You honestly looked like a prostitute.
Suga had insisted that you go full-on skank, which explained your over-the-top getup. Apparently, the man that you were baiting was into the super skanky types. You really hoped you could pull this off. It would be your chance to prove to them that you were useful in more ways than one. You were smart and observant and you knew that, you just had to prove it to them.
You took a deep breath and walked into the kitchen where they were waiting for you. Five heads turned to look at you as you made your entrance.
"Fuck..." You weren't sure who uttered the swear word, but it didn't matter. All of them were giving you the same look. The same approving, hungry look that reminded you too much of Rey. You crossed your arms and quirked an eyebrow at them. Jimin was the first to snap out of it. He grinned and walked over to you, offering his hand out to you.
"Damn, mama, you look delicious." He said appreciatively, twirling you around. You smirked and shook your head at his comment. Even though it could have been taken as provocative, Jimin's advances never felt romantic to you. He had always felt more like a brother or a gay best friend. Although, from the way he looked you up and down, you were pretty sure he wasn't gay.
The other boys gave you various nods and smiles of approval. Jungkook only commented on your makeup and how you looked like a retired drag queen. When you turned to look at Suga for the first time, you were surprised to see his expression wasn't approving. He looked you up and down calculatedly, like he was making sure that you looked good enough to get the job done. You felt slightly put down that he wasn't looking at you like a girl, he was only thinking of the job.
"Okay, let's go." Suga announced, looking over you almost like you weren't even there. You sighed sadly as he walked past you. You couldn't pretend that you had wanted him to be a little appreciative of your look. You hadn't realized it at first, but you desperately wanted him to notice you.
You realized that he probably wasn't into the 'sexy' look. He hadn't liked it the first time you got dressed up to go out, and come to think of it, you hadn't seen him with a single girl throughout your entire time here. You had seen Jungkook, V, and Jimin all get it on with a girl at the clubs you had been going to, but Suga had always been working.
When you arrived at the club, Suga stopped you in front of the doors, letting the others go in first. You looked over at him in confusion as he bent down towards you. You gasped as he wrapped his arms around you, placing on hand on the small of your back and pressing his cheek against yours. You tensed sharply and breathed in his musky scent, trying to keep your head clear as he started whispering in your ear.
"When we go in, we won't know each other anymore. Go straight to the bar and order a drink. When we spot your target, one of us will give you the location." You realized that his embrace was only to cover up his instructions. Even so, it was hard to focus on what he was saying as his warm breath brushed your ear and neck. You had to force yourself not to wrap your arms around his neck in return.
"I just put a tracker on the back of your dress and I'm about to fasten an ear piece in your ear." He warned. Even with the warning, you flinched slightly as you felt his fingers by your other ear. From afar, it probably just looked like he was brushing your hair out of your ear, but you felt him fasten a bug.
"You'll be able to hear us, but you won't be able to speak directly to us. Take your target to the back alley. Once you're there, we will come in and take it from there. If you feel unsafe or out of control at any point, use the safe word."
"What's the safe word?" You asked softly. Suga pulled out of the embrace and gave you a loving smile. You knew he was still playing up the act, but his expression made your knees weak. It both impressed and terrified you to realize how good he was at faking emotion.
"Good luck, little firecracker." He emphasized the last word and winked at you before releasing your shoulders and walking inside the club. You were left standing outside, breathing hard. As you turned to face the entrance, you had to force your hands to stop shaking. This was the ultimate test and you knew that whatever happened tonight, you relationship with the Bulletproof Gang would be forever changed.
