we're bullets in a gun [introduction]

we're bullets in a gun

In insanity, there is calculation.

In madness, there is preparation.

But in life or death, there is neither.

"We are fighting the same enemy," the general scowled. "We will be laying our hearts in their hands like a naive girl does to her first love. Place our bones on their soil to fossilize from years to come. Stamp our footprints on their territory, leave a mark that rain nor sun may waste away."

He stood in front of thousands of warriors who all stood at his attention, all emulating the rigged stance the authoritative superior did. All fear, indecision, sorrow and remorse was wiped away behind their armour, because this was war.

And war did not spare the weak.

"Today you will learn how to be a soldier," he continued, a voice weary of overuse and spilling the same secrets generations pass in their wake. "Today, you will learn to be a warrior. Today, you will learn how to be a weapon."

For humans were nothing but nuclear bombs waiting to go off, if the universe planted us accordingly. They calculated our bodies to wreck the havoc, prepare our minds to unleash primal terror. In the end, it did not matter who we were, where we have been, how we become.

We're nothing more than a pathway for destruction.

We were nothing more than bullets in a gun.

May the world have mercy when we fire.
