the beast wasn't a creature you could kill [poem]

the beast wasn't a creature you could kill

The beast wasn't a creature
you could hide in the corner
like a sin made without a witness;
the beast wasn't a substance you
could clean your hands off of
under cold running water;
the beast was a part of you and me
and in the properties of nightmares
we could not sleep away.

The beast took control of
my teeth, gnawed through my
lips and bit through my nails;
it took its claws and held my heart
until it feels like it will implode;
it dragged its tail down my spine
until my skin bubbled with bumps,
coated my lungs in scales
until I could not breathe.

The beast planted poisoned
seeds into my mind,
made you crawl away from
my toxic presence,
made me whisper dirty words in your ears,
and I cover your mouth with
my sinful hand so you can't
scream when the beast
made me dig a talon through
your heart.

The beast made me stab at the
menacing darkness until I drew blood;
made me drink its essence until
I purged its soul into me,
for this beast had made me become
a monster, paranoid and angry,
became a creature you could not
kill until you became its
next sacrifice.
