Today was Josey Roe's new job at the CDC. Most people called her Roe and she liked it that way.
Humming to herself she thought of the night before as she pulled dress after dress out of her closet to decide on the ruby red one, pulling on black pumps she went to the mirror to rub on some moisturizer and added some mascara around her sea-colored eyes, and dabbed lipstick on her plump lips, looking back at herself, she hoped the red dress wasn't too much for her first day.

At least she would get to see her husband, Mark more. He worked there as well. He was a scientist that was working on something big, he had said. He couldn't even talk to her about it, so it must be the top secret of the world. It was something she was used to.

Not thinking another thing about it she went downstairs to see her seventeen-year-old sister sitting at the bar with her ear pods in with no doubt listening to an audiobook. Tapping Emily on the back getting her attention. "Morning, sis, " Emily yawned sleepily. Midterms took up all her time.

I'm outta here, love you, supper is in the fridge. Call me if you need me. Okay, I'm just a call away. Stay out of trouble she joked as she opened the door blowing Emily air kisses, not knowing in a couple of hours their lives were going to change forever.

"I'll be fine, Josey; Manny is picking me up." Emily forced a smile, something she'd been doing more of since finals began.

Okay, love ya. Josey shut the door thinking of her parents and Emily, and how close they had all been, the Sunday dinners they had together.

They were killed by a drunk driver when Emily was fifteen. It seems she had shut down, again. She needs a reason to live, Josey thought as she backed out of her drive, noticing things out of place.

Garbage cans were strewn about. Cars parked hazardous fly in the streets like people parked in a hurry and left their cars. The trash and vechiles was not the only thing out of place. People were acting crazy. Screams could be heard from the neighbors house.
She backed her car out with a worried frown and a bad taste in her mouth.

She broke the speed limit to get to work.

Hurrying as fast as she could, she got to the parking garage where she parked her car, and practically ran to the key slot to enter the building. Sliding her key she was admitted immediately. What the hell was going on out there? She wondered.

She would have to ask Mark if he noticed how crazy it was becoming outside.

She clipped on her badge and started towards the closed doors marked with the caution of what was on the other side. Suddenly feeling a chill shiver through her, she started walking forward, not daring to look back as she headed to the labs. It was a lab where they tested rats and small animals, sometimes monkeys which seemed cruel to her.

What should she do? Should she go in? The alarms were blaring with lights flashing a red hue over the floor from the exit signs that were blinking.

Dammit, Josey thought of something, she thought pitifully to herself. Mark would know what to do. Was he still alive? Josey don't go down that rabbit hole she scolded herself.

She should find him or anyone for that matter this was creepy as hell. She started towards the doors only to be met with something that would change her life forever, and finally, she turned to run for her life.
