Chapter 8
"Yes, thank you." Tommy hung up the phone and finished getting ready for his first day of work. He was excited, as anyone would be. Ranboo had left the day before to care for some rich guy's cat for a week so Tommy was planning on calling him after work to tell him how it went. They still didn't know where he worked, but they had asked about it. Tommy told them not to worry about it and that he'd tell them after his first paycheck came in. They agreed to it and Tommy was off the hook temporarily. He'd have to find a business in North or East to work at as a cover, or just be honest with them. They wouldn't be happy if they knew, unless Themis told Ranboo and he's just acting dumb to see what Tommy does. It unsettles Tommy a bit to think about, but he ignores it as he starts walking to work. He likes working in the middle of the day. It leaves plenty of time to rest before and after patrol.
Tommy walked up to the tall building and took a deep breath. He walked in and up to the front desk, seeing a girl with pink hair in a messy bun at the front desk. Tommy walked up to the front desk and waved at the girl. She smiled brightly at him and typed something into her computer.
"How can I help you?" Tommy looked around the room. The chairs were filled with people in suits with briefcases and people talking to those people. Lawyers and clients, if he remembered correctly. Tommy wasn't entirely sure what he was supposed to say, so when he turned and saw the girl watching him expectantly, his mind completely blanked.
"What?" The girl huffed a laugh and pulled out her phone, texting someone. She looked up at Tommy and smiled softly.
"What's your name?" Tommy froze for a second and hid his hands behind his back, squeezing his hands together.
"Tommy." She typed into her phone again and after a few seconds looked up at Tommy and giggled quietly.
"Hello Tommy. When you come in, you can just go straight up to their floor." Tommy nodded and walked to the elevator, waving awkwardly. He just got bested by a customer service worker. He's definitely seen better days. Tommy pressed the button to go to the 28th floor and sighed happily as the elevator doors closed. He decided that he would just complain about the fact a woman was at the front desk instead of the guy Tommy saw last time. It threw him off his groove. Tommy pulled his phone out of his pocket and scrolled through Twitter while he waited to get to his floor. He was a bit nervous but it'd be fine. Tommy would win them over with his charm. The elevator door opened and Tommy walked out, putting his phone away and looking around. The sign from before was gone, so that made sense. Must've just been for the interview.
"Tommy! Come with me." Tommy looked at Wilbur and walked over to him. Wilbur walked into his office and Tommy followed. Tommy watched Wilbur pick up a notebook and look through it. Tommy looked around the room and Wilbur walked up to him.
"Ok, so basically for your first couple of weeks I'll be in charge of everything you do. I have a list here of the things you'll get done in a day. Today we're just going to get you familiar with your surroundings and have you meet everyone you'll be working with. Sound good?" Tommy nodded and Wilbur smiled, leading Tommy further into the floor. The place looked like it was designed to be a house and a workspace, which was probably why Themis had a secret house. Get away from the space if he needed to.
"This is the kitchen, we have lunch together on weekends so you'll be wanted there but it's not required. We have the living room, you can do any work in there that you need a lot of space. This hallway is the rooms, don't go in any of them unless invited or in the case of an emergency. That's Themis's office and that's The Angel's office, knock before going in either of them. You've already seen my office. This will be your office." Wilbur opened a door and reached in, flicking a light switch. The light turned on and Tommy looked in to see a smallish room with a desk against the wall and a chair behind it. There wasn't anything else in the room, but the desk did have a desk lamp on it. There was also a laptop on the desk. It looked a bit more expensive than Tommy was used to.
"It's simple right now but we'll get you some decorations after a month. This is where you'll do most things like sending reports to heroes on patrol, emailing people who want to sponsor or feature us, you'll schedule meetings and interviews, and you'll let us know if anyone here has requested to see us. Sound good? I'll show you how to do all of that later." Tommy nodded and Wilbur turned off the light, closing the door. He led Tommy to the elevator and they got in. Wilbur hit the button for floor 26 and pulled out his phone. The elevator door closed and Tommy took a deep breath, staring at the door.
"You're quieter than I expected." Tommy looked at Wilbur and smiled slightly. Wilbur was looking at him.
"Just getting a feel for things. It's been a while since I've been in a professional setting." Wilbur nodded and looked back at his phone.
"Yeah that makes sense. Don't worry, most of the people here aren't professional. You have a few hard-asses but most people don't take their free time seriously." Tommy nodded and cracked his knuckles. It made sense but Tommy did expect that they'd be professional while at the tower.
"Does everyone live here or is it just you guys?" Wilbur smiled and looked at Tommy.
"Everyone lives here, it's required. Between you and me though, I'm pretty sure some people sneak out to go to their own houses after hours when security is worse." Tommy snorted and crossed his arms. His back hurt. He'd need to take care of that at some point, but he really didn't want to. He'd take care of it when he got home.
"Why is it required that everyone live here?" The elevator stopped and Wilbur put his phone away. The elevator doors opened and Tommy was met with a very messed up area. There was a couch on it's back, a broken flower pot in the corner mixed in with a pile of dirt, the walls were scratched to shit, and all the lights were shattered. The only light in the room was the natural light peeking from behind the curtains that covered the windows. Tommy was tempted to hit the button to leave the floor, but Wilbur just hummed and walked into the room, looking around. Tommy followed after him.
"Well, this is the Minorities floor. It's home to Faux, Undying, Nihachu, and their assistant Hbomb. Nobody's really sure why they named themselves Minorities but I assume it's because Faux is trans, Undying is pretty much immortal, and Nihachu is a woman. That's what Hbomb told me anyways, even he's unclear." Tommy nodded and looked around. He couldn't get over how much of a mess the floor was.
"Does anyone clean this place?" Wilbur chuckled and nodded.
"Yeah, Faux probably just threw a tantrum recently. He's fairly young and every now and again when he's pissed off he just goes into a blind rage." Tommy nodded slowly and Wilbur smiled at him. "You'll only ever come into this room alone, anyone here who needs you will meet you in this room. You'll be working with Undying and Faux twice a week for thirty minutes at a time." Tommy nodded and Wilbur walked back to the elevator, Tommy following behind him. They got in and Wilbur hit the button for floor 25. The elevator door closed and they waited in silence. When the door opened again, it revealed a much tidier room. In fact, the room was completely empty. The walls were a very light red though, which was nice.
"This is the Badlands floor. Home to Halo, The Captain, and Ponk. They're very simplistic people, don't need much to be successful. They're in a meeting right now with the Dream Team and the Minorities so you'll meet them tomorrow. If you come to this floor while they're here they'll hear you instantly. Halo is more likely to come running out to meet you than the other two. You'll be working with Captain Puffy twice a week for half an hour." Tommy nodded and looked around. There was a kitchen, and a hallway with three doors on each side of it. It really was simple, but they seemed to make it work. Tommy could appreciate that. Wilbur walked back to the elevator and Tommy followed. Wilbur hit the button for the 23rd floor.
"The 24th floor is where any high-risk workers live. You'll never go there unless you're threatened or something generally bad happens to you because you work for us." Tommy nodded and the elevator door closed. So if he was kidnapped or something because someone wants information from him, he'd have to live at the tower. Tommy disliked the idea. The door opened again and Tommy felt chills go down his spine. The floor seemed like a normal flat. Open kitchen, nice living room, no hallways but several doors. It looked normal, but Tommy felt off put by it. He couldn't explain it further if he tried.
"This is the Dream Team's floor. Home to Thanatos, NotFound, and Ember." Tommy nodded and Wilbur walked out of the elevator, going in the middle of the room. Tommy stepped out of the elevator but did not go farther. Wilbur looked at him and smiled. "These three are kind of chaotic, so if any of them need you they'll come to you. You won't come here unless you're working with NotFound. You'll also work with Ember though." Tommy hummed and thought for a moment.
"What about the one guy who works for NotFound?" Wilbur froze for a second and smiled slightly.
"He doesn't live with them, he's just here a lot. The only reason Hbomb lives with the Minorities is because Faux pitched a fit when he was told that the interns had to live outside the tower." Tommy smiled and nodded. It made sense. Wilbur walked back into the elevator and Tommy followed. Wilbur hit the button for floor 22 and hummed quietly. The door opened again after a while and they were met with the hero Warper, fully set in his deep purple hoodie and his goggles, both having small lime green swirls on them here and there. The hoodie wasn't much of a hoodie but it had a hood and Tommy didn't know what else to call it. It was like a cape with a hood though. Think little red riding hood. He was also wearing a slightly tight fitting t-shirt and leggings. They looked comfortable.
"Nice hoodie." Warper looked at Tommy and put his hand on his not hoodie. He looked back up at Tommy with an incredulous look on his face.
"It's a hooded cape." Tommy shrugged and Warper looked at Wilbur.
"If I was there for the meeting, I wouldn't have voted for him." Warper walked back into the floor and went into a room, shutting the door behind him. Wilbur sighed and rubbed his eyes tiredly.
"Well, this is the Forgotten's floor. Home to Warper, Lazar, and Vikk. True to their name, we forgot to invite them to the meeting to decide if you'd work here or not. Warper is just mad about it, don't mind him. He'll come around. You won't work with anyone here." Tommy nodded and Wilbur hit a button to go to floor 21.
"How come there are 30 floors but the heroes are only on the floors in the 20s?" Wilbur smiled and shrugged.
"Safety reasons I assume. We weren't exactly told." Tommy hummed and looked at the elevator door. There were a lot of heroes, more than he expected. He didn't even know how many were left. He'd only met one thus far. The elevator stopped and the door opened, revealing a messy floor with a bunch of different metals and random materials littered all over the floor. The kitchen had a bunch of appliances Tommy had never seen before, the living room had a giant metal table in it with an electronic saw on it and a bunch of loose screws and random tools on it. The couch had a bunch of weird electronic looking things on it. It was a mess of parts overall.
"This is Awesamdude's floor. He lives alone because his last roommates moved to a different tower due to him not cleaning up his scraps. You'll work with him for 30 minutes twice a week." Tommy nodded and saw someone come out of a room. He was fairly tall, sort of muscular. He had a creeper mask covering the top half of his face and he was wearing a dark green hoodie. He had green hair, and Tommy recognized him as the man himself. Tubbo never shut up about Awesamdude when he first became a fan.
"Oh. Hi. Are you Tommy?" Awesamdude walked towards them, avoiding all the parts on the floor like it was second nature to him. It probably was. Tommy nodded and smiled at Awesamdude.
"That I am. It's nice to meet you." Awesamdude reached out his hand and Tommy shook it. Awesamdude let go of his hand after a moment and looked around.
"Sorry it's such a mess, someone didn't tell us when you'd show up." Awesamdude motioned his head at Wilbur and Wilbur grinned at him. "I'll make sure it's cleaned up by next time you come around."
"It's alright. The only reason my apartment ever gets cleaned is because of someone getting stressed out and using cleaning as a coping mechanism." Awesamdude hummed thoughtfully and smiled.
"I should try that. Might as well, right?" Tommy smiled and nodded. He liked Awesamdude. Maybe Tubbo wasn't as much of a weirdo as Tommy thought. He was still a weirdo though.
"So I'm told I'll be working with you at some point. What'll we do?" Awesamdude grinned and moved his hands behind his back.
"Well, I'm hoping to get your opinion on some of my technology and help me decide what additions would be good for which heroes. It'd also be nice to just have someone help me find tools. I lose them a lot." Tommy hummed and looked around. He didn't have to wonder why.
"Sounds like fun." Awesamdude smiled and nodded.
"We'll be on our way now, going to go interrupt a meeting so he can meet everyone else." Awesamdude chuckled and looked at Tommy.
"Take a video of that for me. It's always funny interrupting the Minorities, Badlands, and Dream Team's meetings. They get so mad." Tommy grinned and nodded. Awesamdude smiled and Wilbur hit the button for floor 20, the door closing on Awesamdude waving goodbye. Tommy pulled out his phone and looked down at it, seeing a text from Ranboo 20 minutes ago saying 'good luck!'. Ranboo really was a good fellow. A bit late, but it was nice of him.
"You're not actually going to take a video, are you?" Tommy shrugged and grinned at Wilbur.
"Depends. Will I get in trouble for it?" Wilbur smiled slightly and looked at the elevator door.
"No, but if word gets out that you do, I had no idea you would do it. Got it?" Tommy grinned widely and nodded. The elevator door opened to a hallway, about five doors on each side of the hallway. Wilbur walked out of the elevator and Tommy followed, starting a video. Wilbur opened a door on the left side of the hallway and walked in, someone immediately screaming 'FUCK OFF'. Tommy walked in after him and saw a big round table, a bunch of chairs surrounding it with a bunch of people in the chairs. Tommy could pay attention to everyone in the room, but his eyes caught on Captain Puffy. She smiled at Tommy and waved at him. He waved back. The others were complaining a bit quieter than that one guy.
"You can't keep doing this! I swear, I'm going to interrupt your meeting one of these times. No, you know what? Fuck over here." Faux stood up and ran at them. Tommy stood behind Wilbur more and someone stood up, putting their arm out and catching Faux. They brought Faux to their chest and Faux tried escaping. It didn't seem to bother the person that much. They were wearing a flannel and long skirt so Tommy wasn't exactly sure what to think about them. Seemed strong though. Their beard was nice.
"He has a guest, Faux. Relax. Is this your new hire?" Tommy looked at Thanatos from over Wilbur's shoulder and Wilbur nodded. Tommy was still recording from behind Wilbur, making it as subtle as he could.
"Yeah. This is Tommy. Hope you don't mind, I decided we might as well stop by so he'll know everyone he'll be working with." Thanatos nodded and Tommy hid behind Wilbur a bit more. He didn't like how Thanatos's mask covered his entire face. It just put him off. The smile was creepy as hell. "Could everyone who'll work with Tommy stand up?" Five people stood up, Faux stayed standing up but the person holding him sat down. They still held onto his arm though.
"Introduce yourselves and what Tommy will be doing for you." Tommy looked at Wilbur and huffed quietly. Wilbur must be a higher-up. No way some company worker would have this much say over everyone.
"I'm Captain Puffy, you'll be helping me decide if someone's telling the truth in interrogations." Tommy looked at Captain Puffy and smiled. She continue
"I'm Halo, you'll be working with me to get statements from witnesses who are traumatized from whatever they went through." Tommy looked at Halo and nodded. He was a very dark grey and he wore a red and black hoodie. He had a belt on that connected over his shoulder and he was wearing black pants. It looked like he was some sort of demon but Tommy wouldn't just call him that like some dick. What if he's wrong?
"I'm Ember, you'll be working on training with me. Basically, you'll help me figure out how to not give people third degree burns." Tommy nodded slightly and looked at Ember. He was wearing a white shirt with a flame on it and a white headband. He looked very simple, it was a bit shocking.
"I'm NotFound, you'll be working with me on legal matters." Tommy looked at NotFound and nodded. NotFound had a hat that looked like the head of a red mushroom with white spots, a light blue t-shirt with a white rectangle in the middle of his chest, and light brown cargo pants. He also had thick white framed glasses on, even though they didn't have lenses in them.
"I'm Undying. I'm probably the only person here who will give you the same kind of work a normal intern would do." Tommy smiled and looked at Undying. He was wearing a shark skull. Tommy hoped it was fake. He also had a necklace with shark teeth on it, but it was probably fake. He was wearing a dusty yellow body suit with shoulder guards, fingerless gloves matched with a pair of black pants and a grey slitted skirt held on by a black belt with emerald buckle to match the emerald pendant on his chest. He was a... character.
"I'm Faux, I just kind of want to hang out with you. You could also give Hbomb a hand with making people's opinions of us better." Tommy looked at Faux and hummed. He was very obviously a fox hybrid, with fox ears poking out of his orange and white hair, and a tail puffed up in agitation. He was wearing a black coat and a white shirt, a very basic outfit. It wasn't his hero outfit, Tommy figured he didn't wear it all the time like everyone else.
"There. Now you've met everyone you'll need to. Come along now, let's go find The Angel and Themis." Tommy's heart dropped as Wilbur walked out of the room. He followed close behind Wilbur and took a deep breath. Themis didn't know, The Angel wouldn't remember him. It was fine. They walked down the hallway and into the elevator, Wilbur hitting the button for floor 15. The door closed and Tommy stopped the video. He looked over it and edited it to be shorter, started soon enough to catch Faux's reaction of them interrupting their meeting, and then ending right before that one guy caught him. Make it seem like everything turned into a mess from there. Tommy chuckled at the short clip and noticed Wilbur looking over his shoulder.
"You should send that to Hbomb, the community would get a kick out of it." Tommy smiled slightly and closed out of his camera roll, opening his texts and hesitating at Tubbo's name, debating whether or not to send the video. Tubbo still didn't know where he worked, and he wouldn't be happy with it. Tommy sighed and put away his phone.
"Does everyone have their own like, fucken sell out team?" Wilbur laughed shortly and gave Tommy an incredulous look.
"A sell out team?" Tommy shrugged and nodded.
"Yeah! To sell your image to the public. Make everyone here more likeable." Wilbur stared at Tommy and Tommy stared right back. "Like Hbomb?" Wilbur took a deep breath and looked at the doors.
"A public relations team, Tommy?" Tommy nodded and Wilbur sighed. "No, Tommy. Hbomb is the only one who works on our public image. Awesamdude makes our costumes and NotFound keeps us out of legal trouble, but Hbomb handles everything to do with the media." Tommy nodded. Wilbur saying his name like that sounded vaguely condescending but he wouldn't dwell on it. It wasn't his fault Wilbur didn't understand what a sell out was.
"Oh, wait aren't we going to see The Angel and Themis? Why aren't we going back to your floor?" Wilbur frowned slightly and the door opened. They were in what looked to be a hospital, but just like the hallway of a hospital. There were a bunch of curtains on each side of a very wide hallway and there was a waiting room at the end of the hallway. They really liked hallways here. There were also a bunch of nurses and doctors walking about. They looked like what they were doing was important but Tommy didn't know what they were doing. Wilbur walked out of the elevator and Tommy followed him. He talked to a nurse briefly and the nurse pointed at a curtain. Wilbur went over and Tommy followed like some duckling. At least that's how Tommy felt. He didn't know what Wilbur would describe him following closely behind him as. They walked behind one of the curtains to show a hospital bed with Themis in it, adamantly refusing to do whatever the doctors wanted him to do, and sharing his complaints with The Angel.
"It's so dumb, I'm fine I know what happened. I didn't lose my memory." Tommy tensed up slightly and Themis looked over at him. He grinned widely and crossed his arms. "Kid, tell The Angel that scanning my brain for damage is pointless, will ya? I did not lose my memory! I hit my head, no big deal. Captain Puffy got out of here as soon as she woke up."
"Captain Puffy can heal herself. You need to get checked out." Tommy looked between Themis and The Angel and smirked slightly.
"I agree with Themis, actually. He is invincible, isn't he?" No but that's what the public thinks. If Tommy were to find out that Themis could be hurt and just accidentally let it slip in casual conversation, who knows what could be done with the information? The Angel seemed to realize that too as he took a deep breath and smiled at Tommy.
"That.. is correct. I suppose no real damage would have been done, so, I'll talk to the doctors." The Angel walked out of the room and Tommy looked at Themis. He was grinning widely and he moved over on the bed to make room. He patted the bed beside him and Tommy walked over, sitting down beside him.
"Hello Tommy, it's nice to meet you. Thank you for your help." Themis held out his hand for Tommy to take and he did. They shook hands and Tommy looked at Wilbur, who had a soft smile on his face. Tommy smiled and looked back at Themis. He was wearing his hero outfit but he looked fairly relaxed. He also wasn't wearing the pig skull.
"You remind me of Undying." Themis grimaced and flicked Tommy's forehead. Tommy laughed and Wilbur sighed.
"Don't compare me to him. I'm much more cool." Tommy chuckled and poked Themis's nose. Themis glared at him and Tommy grinned widely.
"I hope The Angel gets back before he tries to kill you, Tommy." Tommy laughed and looked at Wilbur.
"He's harmless! Rumor has it his power is strength and he accesses it from his pig skull, and he's not wearing it. So he can do nothing." Wilbur raised his eyebrow and Tommy looked at Themis. Themis snorted and looked at Tommy.
"You hear that in West?" Tommy nodded and Themis sighed. "I haven't worn that skull in about 2 years, which is around the same amount of time it's been since I've patrolled in West." Tommy nodded and cracked his knuckles. He knew it was a lie but technically Tommy didn't know.
"You should patrol West more often. We could use the help." Themis grimaced and nodded shortly. Tommy grinned and copied Themis.
"You're lucky that the doctors couldn't find any reason for the scan other than being cautious. You're free to go." Tommy looked at The Angel and smiled. Themis got off the bed and Tommy followed behind him. "Looks like you got a mini." Tommy looked at The Angel and stuck his tongue out. Wilbur chuckled and they all walked out of the space, going to the elevator.
"Is there anything you haven't shown Tommy yet?" Wilbur pressed the button for the 28th floor and the door closed. It felt so weird being in an elevator with two heroes.
"Well there's the interrogation room, the cells, the tech room, the training floor, the library, the lounge. Things I don't think he'd need to see immediately, mostly." Tommy hummed and The Angel nodded.
"He'll see them with time, better to not overwhelm him on his first day, he may not come back." Tommy chuckled at the line he'd heard several times from past employers. It felt like a reminder that this was just a normal job. He wasn't a hero, just helping them. He felt like he should be sabotaging them since they have killed vigilantes in the past, but he didn't think it would be what the lost would want.
"Is everything alright?" Tommy looked at Themis and nodded, forcing a smile on his face to sway suspicion. He didn't think Themis would notice him.
"Just lost in thought I suppose." Themis hummed and nodded. The door opened and everyone left the elevator. Themis went into one of the offices and The Angel went into the kitchen. Wilbur led Tommy to Tommy's office. Tommy closed the door behind himself and Wilbur went over to the laptop, turning it on. Tommy followed and Wilbur pulled out the chair, tilting it towards Tommy so Tommy could sit down. Tommy did, and Wilbur pulled up a google sheet. It looked like a timetable, with the names of every hero on the side of it and a bunch of dates at the top.
"Ok, so this is basically payroll. Your job is to find out what hours everyone here was on patrol and if they had a meeting that day, how long it was. Also what work they did outside of that. For example find out how many court cases NotFound got settled, or if Awesamdude finished any new tech. Those are things that they get paid for aside from patrols and meetings. Not everyone gets paid for that. If you need help remembering any of that we can get you something to write notes down when we go supplies shopping for you. Which we'll be doing tomorrow. We'll also get you some furniture if you want anything and decorations to make the room more comfortable. Themis has a beanbag in his room that he sits on more often than his office chair, but he still has an office chair and a desk. He's weird. The Angel has a fabric swing that he can just lay in like a hammock. They're both a bit weird. But, those are examples of things you can have in here. So long as you're getting work done, we don't care to know what you're doing during your hours. You'll get paid for it all the same, and if you work from home at all you'll get paid for that since it's viewed as overtime work, or if you stay here late." Tommy nodded and took a deep breath. That was an unnerving amount of information at once that would definitely be written down somewhere once Tommy got something to write it down in. Wilbur typed something into safari (who the fuck uses safari as a default browser?) and it brought up a log in screen. Wilbur typed 'IT16' as the username and typed something that was five letters as the password. When he hit enter a map showed up with a few dots scattered around it. Trackers, Tommy assumed. Below the map was what looked like a radio, with the names of every hero on it. Most of them weren't lit up, some of them were. Even Insanity was on there, but Tommy hadn't heard anything about him all day.
"Ok, so this is how you'll communicate with heroes on duty. This map shows you where any crime is, and the lit up names are the heroes currently on patrol. So all you do is look at the map, if there's any crime that's been notified to the police it'll show up as a big red exclamation mark and you just click on the hero who's closest name and tell them where the crime is. Sound easy enough?" Tommy nodded and looked everything over. It all looked vaguely familiar, and Tommy recognized it as the program Themis had used on his phone from time to time. Guess his phone worked just as well as any notification a person could give him.
"Who did this before me?" Wilbur looked at Tommy and smiled before looking back at the computer and clicking something.
"I did. So, these are the cameras in every city. You click on this tab to change what city you're looking at. North has the most cameras so we tend to look on here more often but make sure to switch between cities every once in a while. Cops don't get notified about small crime so it's important to keep an eye out." Tommy scoffed and looked at the camera feed in front of him. It was a camera from West, Tommy recognized the flower shop on the right of the street. West was also the first option on the tab, it seemed to go from lowest social standard to highest.
"If you have such easy access to know when there's trouble in West, why do heroes never go there?" Tommy looked at Wilbur and watched Wilbur's smile fall. He took a deep breath and smiled at Tommy.
"Because West has all the heroes it needs. Would you like to be let in on a secret, Tommy?" Tommy nodded shortly and Wilbur pressed a few buttons, reversing the camera feed by a couple of days. Tommy watched the footage and Wilbur paused it, then pointed at an alleyway. "Watch that alley." The video was started again and Tommy watched as he and Themis, both in their suits, pushed a couple of tied up criminals out of the alleyway and onto the sidewalk to await detainment. Wilbur paused the footage again and looked at Tommy. Tommy felt his heart start racing.
"He doesn't know that I know, and you and I are going to keep it that way, ok?" Tommy bit his lip and nodded. Wilbur smiled and looked at the camera. "He's stupid, but he's doing good work. This is why I don't send other heroes over there. I don't want him getting caught. You understand, right?" Tommy nodded and smiled slightly. Wilbur wasn't going to tell anyone, and he wasn't going to get Tommy in trouble. Well, probably not. Wilbur could flip the story entirely and make it seem like Tommy asked him not to say anything, and then Tommy would be in trouble because why would he be looking back through camera footage unless he had ulterior motives? Basically, they had to trust each other with this information. Wilbur reset the camera to the present day and went back to the map.
"So, I'll be on here whenever you're not at work, so when you log in just let the heroes on patrol know it's you and then just do your thing. When you leave let them know you're logging off and you won't have to worry about it. They just wander whenever one of us isn't on so if you have a meeting or are needed and you're doing this just leave it open, it doesn't really matter. I'll also get you a phone to take calls on, like a 911 operator but for people to request heroes immediately. Most people will tell you their location first and then summarize what the issue is so write down their location and then if the issue is hero worthy then notify the closet hero. You'll get the hang of it more as time goes on. Like, Hangman is a killer so if he's attacking you'll get a call about it instead of there being a police report for you to respond to. " Tommy nodded and looked at the desk. It really was a lot of information, considering it'd only been 4 hours so far. Time passed really quickly.
"Anything else I should know?" Tommy looked at Wilbur and Wilbur nodded slowly.
"That was just two things you'll be doing, there are four others." Tommy sighed heavily and leaned back in his chair. They had a lot to go over.
