Chapter 2
"Techno? Where are we?" Technoblade looked through his mirror at Phil and smiled. Phil looked around and leaned on Puffy after noticing her. Technoblade sometimes envied their friendship. They had a lot of trust between each other that he didn't have with anyone other than family.
"We're on our way to drop Puffy off. You sleep flew again and Puffy got hurt trying to help you. I took her to a healer who said she wouldn't remember anything but she'll be alright." Phil nodded and closed his eyes. Technoblade would be true to his word. He needed that vigilante to trust him. He needed the vigilante to help him find out what was going on with Phil. The vigilante was his first and only lead so far.
It wasn't the first time Phil had left the house at the middle of the night, though Technoblade thought Phil had been sleep flying. If he wasn't actually asleep, where was Phil going? And why? Why would Phil have cornered the vigilantes if he didn't know they would be there? Did he know they would be there? How often had Phil's memories been replaced with him sleep flying? Every time?
"What's wrong son?" Technoblade stopped at a light and took a deep breath. So many things were wrong. The pieces didn't add up. He was only lucky that he was notified about what happened with Phil this time. When would it happen again? Sure Phil could hold his own just fine but that vigilante had erased the memories of everyone there excluding himself. What more would he be willing to do? How much information had they gathered that they don't know? The vigilante wasn't dangerous on his own, he was dangerous because he had connections. Technoblade was just glad he could begin to connect the dots. Even if it had to stay with just himself, someone other than the vigilante could know what was going on.
"The council isn't going to be happy that your sleep flying has injured another hero. You could be suspended from patrol for the time being." It wasn't what he was actually concerned about, but it was a possibility. Phil seemed to realize too, judging from the heavy sigh from the back seat. The council wouldn't leave him off the field for longer than a week, even if Phil did actually need the break.
"I'll handle it, don't worry Techno. They won't keep me away for long." Technoblade nodded and parked in front of Puffy's house. There wasn't much he could do anyways, he'd have to leave it to Phil.
Technoblade got Puffy situated in her bed, and left a note explaining what happened, along with a cup of water. He got himself and Phil back to the tower around 4am, unsurprised when he found Wilbur sat in the kitchen on their floor. Phil went to his room and Technoblade sat in the kitchen with Wilbur. The two sat in relative silence, neither wanted to say anything about their current situation. It felt almost domestic in their normally crazy life.
"Any new information?" Technoblade shook his head and stood, making himself some tea. He was all too aware of the notepad in his pocket that screamed betrayal. He'd naturally trust Wilbur with the information, but he had to wait.
"Not yet. I'm going to go put together Phil's recent patrols and his vitals from the past few nights to see if there's any correlation. Get some sleep, you patrol tomorrow." Technoblade took his tea and waved his brother goodbye, going into his room and locking the door behind him.
Technoblade turned over his giant whiteboard and grabbed a thumbtack, putting the note with the happenings of the night on the wall beside the whiteboard. Technoblade spent the rest of the night arranging his limited information, at some point hearing the door to Wilbur's room close.
By the end of the night, Technoblade came to the conclusion that he had no idea what to do with the information. The location Phil was at was once again, different than any other place he ended up. The only similarity any events had were that each time, there was a violent altercation in the same general area. This was the first time the vigilante was there, the first time Puffy had been knocked out as well, the first time he got information about it. There were so many firsts in one night that completely changed everything he knew about Phil's leaving at night. He was never in costume so he wasn't patrolling, he wasn't asleep so he left on his own, none of the cameras around the perimeter ever caught anyone near their house so he wasn't coerced into leaving, and the vigilante managed to get into his phone. It wasn't that big of a deal since the password is basically the lock screen, but only trusted people know Wilbur's birthday. Technoblade would have to narrow down the heroes that could possibly be the vigilante. It wasn't him and it wasn't Wilbur, so it had to be a hero. Of course it also didn't help that Wilbur was in a band, but they didn't have the biggest following so there was no chance the vigilante knew his music.
There was a lot for Technoblade to consider. But, for the time being, he turned his whiteboard back over and hid the note in the bottom drawer of his nightstand. He would patrol through the night all of next week in search of the vigilante. Hopefully, he would show himself to the hero and communicate without a fight. Otherwise, Technoblade would have to get information the hard way.
