Chapter 19
"Hey Tommy, come work with me real quick." Tommy sighed and followed Themis into his office. He'd started actually working for the trio a month after he'd left them. So far it wasn't the worst but he could definitely do with a break from filling out mission reports that The Angel and Themis neglected to do. Themis was starting to bug him more recently though, like now. Speaking of, this time Themis had him look over some ideas for weapons before sending them off to Awesamdude.
"Hey, Tommy, can I see you in my office?" Tommy sighed and redirected himself to Themis's office. It wasn't like he was doing anything too important, but it was inconvenient. He was just getting back from training with Ember. Well, it was more of an ego boost for Ember than it was training, but Tommy was learning a lot about Ember's power and he almost had a solution on how Ember can control his flames better. If Themis would leave him alone, that was.
"Tommy, a minute?" Tommy groaned and followed Themis, the stack of files in his arms heavy. Two months worth of mission reports to fill out by himself. All for NotFound. Tommy would rather kill himself than be stuck with Themis for an hour.
"Actually Themis, I need to see Tommy in my office if you'd mind?" Tommy sighed and looked at Themis. Themis looked disappointed and Tommy had to refrain from rolling his eyes. The Angel hadn't spoken to him since he was apparently at Tommy's apartment. Tommy says apparently because he was drunk from blood loss the whole time and doesn't remember shit.
"Yeah sure but I need to see him when you're done." Tommy followed The Angel into his office and they worked on the files together while discussing which villain caused the most damage. It was a surprisingly nice change of pace, and Tommy appreciated the help.
"Tommy, you got a moment?" Tommy groaned and turned around, walking up to Themis. He was just on his way back to his office from taking a piss. He was supposed to be sending a mission report to Captain Puffy soon so she could have enough information on a guy to send him to jail. Problem was, the report wasn't filled out. Tommy seemingly had to fudge every damn mission report on the floor using nothing but the camera footage and audio feed.
"Fucken hell man, just schedule a time to work with me." Themis snorted and led Tommy to his office, as though Tommy wouldn't know where it was. Tommy could walk there blindfolded at that point.
"Someone's snippy. Didn't realize you were so busy." Tommy sighed and took a deep breath, calming his nerves. He was admittedly stressed, but it wasn't an excuse to snap at Themis. Still, he'd allow himself to be a bit salty. He was overloaded with work because they couldn't do their job.
"Maybe if you guys organized your patrol reports, or even did them for that matter, I wouldn't have to play catch up so that NotFound's assistant doesn't bite my head off." Themis snorted and Tommy huffed angrily. NotFound's assistant, George, as Tommy learned, was seriously hounding his ass about getting those reports. Because apparently, the general public decided to blame heroes for incidents that didn't even happen during their patrols. Not that those two cared any.
"You can call me Technoblade, y'know?" Tommy looked at Themis, Technoblade apparently, in shock as he casually walked into his office and sat in the beanbag behind his desk. Tommy walked in slowly after him and closed the door behind him. "I know The Angel is still weird about his name with you but I trust you." Tommy smiled slightly and sat in the chair behind Technoblade's desk. Tommy hummed thoughtfully and got back to work finding the files George needed so he wouldn't be carrying in a bunch of files George didn't need.
"What'd you need me in here for?" Tommy looked back at Technoblade and he shrugged, picking up his laptop.
"Emotional support." Tommy glared at Technoblade and took a deep breath, trying his hardest to remain calm.
"Technoblade, I'm not some emotional support animal who has nothing better to do than to give you company." Technoblade hummed and shrugged.
"Aren't you though?" Tommy picked up a pencil and threw it at Technoblade. It hit him square in the face and Technoblade glared at Tommy.
"You asked for it." Technoblade sighed and rubbed his eyes.
"Yeah fair enough."
"Hey Tommy, come." Tommy stopped dead in his tracks and turned around slowly, glaring at Technoblade. Technoblade seemed kind of shocked but mostly entertained. It pissed Tommy off.
"I'm so busy right now that I'm not even going to insult you." Tommy turned back around and kept walking, trying his best to keep the stack of papers in his hands from falling. Technoblade didn't call after him again.
"Hey Tommy, you ok mate? You seem stressed" Tommy raised his head from the kitchen table and glared at The Angel.
"Maybe I'd be less stressed if you guys did your patrol reports after your patrols instead of weeks later when you don't remember enough to give me the information I need." The Angel grimaced and went back to cutting fruits.
"Or maybe if Themis left you alone more you'd have less to do every day." Tommy looked at Wilbur and huffed. Themis was not the biggest issue at the moment. Yes it was annoying but Tommy still got work done while with Technoblade.
"At least he gets more information down than The Angel. Actually, what do you do, Soot? Just sit there and be the boss of everyone? Who put you in charge?" Wilbur's look turned deadly and he glared at Tommy. Tommy was not going to deal with Wilbur's ego. Tommy left the kitchen and went into his office, closing the door and working on emailing people and setting up meetings. He wasn't bothered the rest of the day.
Holy shit, what was wrong? Tommy looked for a mission report, and it was there? Complete and with enough detail that Tommy didn't even have to fudge anything? Tommy was going to cry. It was probably the best thing that'd ever happened to him. Which was very sad and pathetic that he was crying over a double-sided slip of paper. Tommy gave it to NotFound immediately, who looked pleasantly surprised to receive it within 24 hours of him asking for it. NotFound even apologized to Tommy for the obviously large amount of stress he was under. Tommy brushed him off and laughed saying it was like taking care of his roommates. NotFound laughed with him when Ember walked into the room and stubbed his toe, causing him to curse loudly and knock over several expensive looking glass objects during his descent into the fetal position. Tommy had never laughed harder.
Working with Awesamdude was, well, awesome. Tommy got the cleaning done during his first 2 hours with Awesamdude and they'd been cruising through small projects ever since. Awesamdude even said he wanted to make something for Tommy as a sign of gratitude. Tommy disagreed reluctantly but, later Tommy noticed Awesamdude was keeping a project from him. Saw blueprints at one point that Awesamdude scrambled to cover up before he could get a good look at. Tommy was kind of excited.
Working with Faux and Hbomb was a blast. Hbomb recorded their conversations and called them 'Tommy time' so that when the public got to know Tommy was working with them, they'd have enough footage to sell Tommy to the public and make him a celebrity. Tommy didn't like the idea that much but they were both really happy about it and Tommy couldn't help but be a little excited.
Working with Halo was a lot more depressing than he thought it would be. The witnesses all screamed their heads off whenever they were asked a question. It was kind of annoying, but Halo was gentle and still managed to get information from them. Tommy worked with him during the end of his shift, that way he wouldn't have to continue working with a headache.
Working with Captain Puffy wasn't that bad. He mostly took notes and asked questions if the person in question's story didn't line up. After every interrogation that he got them more information from, Captain Puffy told him she was proud of him. It was a massive ego boost that Tommy probably didn't need but would pretend he did.
Working with Undying was actually boring compared to the others. And he had Tommy doing things a maid would do, not an intern. Tommy was to clean the main area and training room and then check to make sure nobody on the floor needed anything before he left. Good news was if he finished cleaning before his time was up he was allowed to leave early.
Wilbur was being.. different. Tommy couldn't describe it, but the way Wilbur looked at him was off. Like he knew something about Tommy but he didn't at the same time. It was confusing and irritating. Tommy wished Wilbur would just crack already and bitch at him.
"Tommy, I need you in my office." Tommy looked up from his papers at Wilbur. Oh shit. It's time for Wilbur to bitch. Tommy followed Wilbur to his office and sat in the uncomfortable chair he'd last sat in during his interview.
"You've been working for us for about 4 months now and while that isn't the longest time I know many of us are very excited to publicly announce you as our intern. However, Themis has made me aware that he believes your own roommates don't know where you work. Is this true?" Tommy nodded and Wilbur hummed.
"Alright, well. I recommend you tell them sooner than later. The victims you and Halo work with might spread the news sooner than you're ready for. Currently they're signing contracts to not say anything but I'm sure they will eventually anyways." Tommy nodded and sighed heavily.
"They wouldn't like where I work. They'd just get pissed at me and try to make me quit." Wilbur furrowed his eyebrows and leaned on the desk.
"Why is that?" Tommy crossed his arms and leaned back in his seat.
"West doesn't like heroes that much, for one. Secondly I lied to them for four months about where I work. Well, three. Wasn't exactly with them the first month. But still, they'd be so pissed." Wilbur hummed and rubbed the bridge of his nose.
"Well, unfortunately there's not much of an option. It's up to you though." Tommy nodded and Wilbur motioned to the door. Tommy stood and walked out of Wilbur's office, going back to his own before Themis noticed him. That wasn't what he expected.
"So, don't be mad." Tubbo's face immediately turned sour and Ranboo sighed heavily. Tommy'd sat them both down on the couch for the conversation, because he'd be able to run away from them easier if they got too mad.
"What the fuck did you do." It wasn't even a question, which made Tommy grimace slightly. Of course Tubbo would be the more pissed one.
"Well, you know how I never exactly told you where I work?" Ranboo scoffed and smirked, leaning on the back of the couch. "What, bitch?"
"It's not exactly your best secret, Tommy." Tubbo and Tommy looked at Ranboo in mild shock and displeasure. Tubbo turned back to Tommy, angrier than before.
"What is it? Where the fuck do you work?" Tommy moved his hands behind his back and took a deep breath.
"I work as SBI's intern.." Tubbo didn't immediately blow up like Tommy was expecting, but one look at Ranboo's calm face made the anger rise impossibly faster. After 34 seconds, Tubbo was seething with rage.
"I'M GOING TO KILL YOU" Tubbo jumped at Tommy, though he was expecting it and booked it to the door, Tubbo following close behind and Ranboo following Tubbo to try and stop him.
"So, how'd it go?" Tommy glared at Wilbur from across the table. He'd gotten away with just one punch to the face because Ranboo trapped Tubbo in a bunch of dirt. Well, after Tubbo shot a poisoned needle at Tommy and knocked him out. That was Ranboo's line apparently. Tommy did have a very visible black eye from the punch though.
"Fantastic. They're in full support." Wilbur grimaced and The Angel walked over with coffee and an ice pack for Tommy. Tommy took both gratefully and hissed in pain when the ice pack touched his bruised skin. He held it in place nonetheless, and took a sip of his coffee.
"It's not a, dangerous situation, at your apartment, right?" Tommy looked at The Angel and shook his head.
"Tommy explained it to me the other day. It's not dangerous, they just hate us." Tommy sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose in agitation while The Angel gave him a weird look. God damn it Wilbur.
