Donna Taylor
Who Am I?
Donna's been writing longer than she hasn't, and you'll be hard-pressed to find her not writing SOMETHING. A cross-genre writer, she loves rich, visceral worlds, morally gray characters, and all things gritty and spooky. Her YA horror novel, BLOOD ON THE BOARDWALK, is a two-time Watty winner in 2021 and entered the Paid Program in 2022. Her paranormal historical fiction novella, WHAT THEY WROUGHT, was longlisted in the 2021 Open Contest. When she's not writing she's guzzling far too much tea, herding her cadre of cats, papercrafting, and spending time with her husband.

7 QUESTIONS
1. What prompted you to start writing on Wattpad and what do you like most about the platform as a writer?
Originally, I heard it was a great way to build a platform. That was back in 2015. I've been chugging along ever since. I took a little break in the middle there, and since returning in 2020, I've really enjoyed the community I've found myself in. I've found a home in the book clubs, Pretty In Punk, specifically, that I don't have anywhere else. I can't imagine being without it.
2. What has been your most rewarding Wattpad experience?
Winning a Watty and then getting into Paid. This has been the first real validation of my writing that's actually moving me forward in a significant way. More than anything, that validation feels like a weight off my shoulders that I didn't realize was sitting there.
3. If you had to describe your story in three words, what would they be?
Campy, spooky, secrets
4. Tell us one thing about your writing process that has helped you the most.
Learning to number my chapters in order to see how my story is pacing. I happened to catch a tweet from Delilah S Dawson that talked to this. When I tried it, I was immediately sold. I assign a number from 1-10 to each chapter, ranking it on the level of action or tension (physical or emotional) with one being pretty much none and ten being climax. Once the numbers are assigned, I can actually see how the pace of the story is moving. It'll show me where the story is lagging, where it might be a bit too much too soon, and whether it's moving the way I want it to move.
5. What is your proudest moment as a writer? Do you have a memory you will never forget?
When Estelle Laure and Brooklyn Ann said they liked my book. I about died.
6. Which of your books is your favourite, and why that one?
BLOOD ON THE BOARDWALK. This is my Lost Boys hat tip. A mullet-filled movie that's been in my life for most of it, and has been integral in forming me as a person. I had the idea for this book in my head for years in various iterations. I'm so happy with the version that came out and I will love it into eternity.
