Coldberry opened his eyes. The bright sunlight seeping into his den as the smell of herbs hits his nose. He lets out a yawn, his silver-white pelt illuminated by the warm gentle sun.

"Good morning Coldberry." Cloverbelly meowed padding into the medicine den. A small smile was the only thing that could ever be seen on the elder's face. Coldberry yawned with a shrug.

"At least it's not leaf-bare yet." He meowed as he padded over to her, "We would have some sick cats and I would be all over the place. Looking for herbs, sorting the new ones I find, having cats bother m-" He paused as his aunt rolled her eyes.

"It's strange that it's not leaf-bare but it's still cold outside. And the lake is still frozen over as well." Cloverbelly meowed with a flick of her ear. You know.. You are so negative about everything." She half teased, "You need to be more open and understanding. Just because Jayfeather is your ancestor doesn't mean you have to act like him." She meowed as she let out a small laugh. This time it was Coldberry who rolled his eyes.

The two cats padded alongside each other as they took a small walk through RiverClan territory.

"What." Coldberry started to meow slowly, "What was she like?"

"Who? Your mother?" Cloverbelly asked back as the continued to pad through the dense trees. The sunlight slowly creeping out of the mountains. Coldberry nodded, his yellow eyes shining with curiosity and a slimmer of sadness as well. "Well.. she was always there for me even though she lived in ThunderClan. She loved Snakestar and he loved her. Their only mistake was you." She paused staring into his eyes.

"You didn't have to put it that way." He growled. Cloverbelly laughed.

"Just keeping it real. A mouse-brain should know that I am trying to be honest here Coldberry, and you are no mouse-brain for StarClan's sake."

Coldberry and Cloverbelly pause as they hear a loud yowl. They glance at each other.

"Did you hear that?" Cloverbelly asked him. Coldberry nodded quickly as they both broke into a run, the voice becoming clear as they began to grow close to the voice.

"Help!" Then it got quiet before the small voice could be heard once more, "Help m-"

Coldberry was the first to arrive to the clearing. The lake clearly frozen over from all of the cold nights RiverClan had been receiving. A small white object could be seen from a hole in the ice. Tiny claw marks were also visible as Coldberry inched his way closer carefully.

"Be careful not to fall in!" Cloverbelly called over to him as she watched from a side, worried her weight might brake the small, thin layer of ice.

"Like I was planning on doing that!" Coldberry hissed back as he widened his eyes in shock as a tiny head popped from out of the frozen cold water. It was Tinykit! He was barely three moons old, what was he doing out of camp and drowning!?

"H-Help!" The kit coughed, scraping the surface layer of the ice as his breath left a small puff of vapor. Coldberry was almost to the kit, though the ice's cracks could be from each pawstep he took. He quickly reached his paw out to the small kit, hoping he would grab it or something.

"Well don't just keep drowning! I bet Mintytooth would love to see your annoying, little face again." He growled, realizing he wasn't helping, "I mean.. lovely.. face again.." He strained, forcing out a smile as he clawed the surface layer of ice and frost.

Tinykit coughed up some water as he now clawed Coldberry's paw, leaving tiny little scratches on the now more grumpy medicine cat.

"What in StarClan's name are you doing!" He hissed, "Do something other than claw my paw off! Bite on it or something more productive than hurting me and letting your little mouse-brained body lose oxygen!"

Tinykit was too weak to respond, instead he bit down hard on Coldberry's paw as he lifted himself from the frozen cold water. The lake cracked and shifted as Coldberry and Tinykit froze. All three of the RiverClan cats listened as the sound echoed through the trees.

"Coldberry! Hurry!" Cloverbelly pleaded.

"I know! I know!" He responded as he grabbed the kit into his teeth, for some reason thinking it was better than letting him walk on his own. He slowly inched closer to his aunt, his legs almost giving in with cold, exhaustion- because he had worked so hard- and from Tinykit's weight.

Cloverbelly let out a loud screech of surprise as Coldberry's foot caves in from all of the weight, almost dropping Tinykit from his jaws.

"Tafke Tifny kif!" He tried to meow through the kit's scruff. Cloverbelly rushed over to Coldberry and the half-alive kit. She glanced at Coldberry worriedly as she took the shivering kit into her jaws.

Coldberry pries his paw out of the ice, rushing quickly off the ice right before it cracks, the tip of Coldberry's tail almost getting stuck as he jumps off of the ice, relief clearly showing through the tom's eyes before he remembers the kit's state.

"Set him down!" Coldberry instructs as he starts to lick the kit the wrong way, Cloverbelly also joining in as Tinykit slowly opens his eyes.

"Oh how Mintytooth will just love to see your half-frozen, annoying little face again..."
