Chapter 36

Hello! I apologize that this is a day late. I was busy yesterday and didn't have a chance to update. It is here though and it's a heavy chapter so he prepared. Also...guys! After this chapter, we're three more away from the end of this fic. I mentioned that a few chapters ago but we really are reaching the end!!!! I can't believe it. I'm still going to hold back the tears and the sappy thank yous for the end, so let's get into this before I get into another rambling tangent.

The cousins have been in the car for about an hour when they get a call from Seungmin. Felix reaches for his phone and answers the call, placing it between them so the man of letters can clearly hear the two of them. "Hey, Seungmin, we're heading back to Seoul," Chan says, "We should be back in a couple hours."

"Did you finish going through Wonpil's journal?" Seungmin questions, "Did you find out what killed him?"

"Yes and no," Felix answers, "We went to the location of the last journal entry, but we both decided not to keep searching for what actually happened to your brother."

"Oh," Seungmin says.

Chan sighs, "The last location was Jeongin's town. He killed Jeongin's family and left him scarred. We met up with him, but he was afraid of us. That was Wonpil's doing, Seungmin. I'm sorry, but I just can't continue this anymore..."

"I understand," Seungmin says, "I would've probably quit too and he's my brother..." The man of letters knows almost everything that has happened along this journey. The cousins not hesitating to fill their friend in on everything that his brother did. Seungmin was definitely bothered by all of it, but in the end Wonpil was family. The brunette still cared for his brother even though he hates and disagrees with everything he did. When it comes down to it, Seungmin can't defend his brother or excuse his actions. It's just something the boy will have to live with. "I guess that means you don't want to check this place out with me then..." Seungmin says.

"What place?" Felix questions.

"I just got an email from this dude about rental payment for a storage unit that Wonpil has been using," Seungmin says, "They told me to come unload his stuff before the end of the week or they'll be throwing it out so someone else can use it. I don't know what's in there. I didn't even know hyung had it. I called to tell you that we should meet up and check the place out together, but if you guys are done then you don't need to come." Felix glances over at Chan, whose mouth is set in a firm line. The car falls silent for a second as neither cousin confirms or denies they are going. After all, they did both say they were done with this mission. If they were to do this, it would be like getting involved with Wonpil again. "Send us the location," Chan states after a bit more time has passed.

"Are you sure?" Seungmin asks.

Chan nods, "Yeah. I'm not letting you go in there alone. We don't know what's in there after all."

"Okay," Seungmin says, "Thanks. I'm sorry for dragging you back into this."

"It's fine," Felix says. "We agreed to it."

"I'll see you later then," Seungmin says, "Bye."

"Bye," Felix says before ending the call and looking over at his cousin, "You really want to do this?"

"No, but as I said before, I'm not letting Seungmin go through Wonpil's bunker alone," Chan says, "We've experienced firsthand the things that Wonpil has done. Seungmin hasn't and you need to remember Wonpil is his brother. This is going to be a lot for him."

"You're right," Felix says, "It's better if we're there."

"Plus, this isn't going to be anything crazy," Chan says, "We already know the type of person Wonpil has become. We're doing this for Seungmin and after that we're done with Kim Wonpil for good."

──────●◎●──────

The car pulls into one of the parking spots in front of a large building that has a large sign that reads Lee's Storing Units. Seungmin leans against a gate garbed in a jean jacket on top of black pants. He waves at the two as they climb out of the car and make their way over to the man of letters. "Have you been waiting long?" Felix asks.

Seungmin shrugs, "Not enough to build up courage to go inside..."

"Are you?" Felix questions.

"Scared?" Seungmin says, "Yeah. I mean you guys have been telling me everything and I trust your word. It's just that if I go in there..."

"We know, Seungmin," Chan says, patting the boy on the shoulder, "That's why we're here."

Seungmin nods and flashes the two hunters a smile, "Let's go then." The three make their way through the open gates that are surrounding the building and towards the front door. They enter together and are greeted by a middle aged man that is balding a bit. He sits on a stool behind a large countertop with a newspaper in his hands. "Hello," Seungmin says as he approaches him, "I'm Kim Seungmin, you emailed me about my hyung's storing unit."

"Ah, yes," The man says, "Let me just get the master lock and I'll take you to the unit." He stands from his seat and makes his way towards the back room. He returns a minute later with a key ring in his hands. He lifts up a section of the countertop which allows him to come to the other side and towards the three. "Follow me," The man says, making a right and going down a hallway. The three trail behind the man as he leads them into a separate room where there are multiple garage-like units lined up down the hall across from each other. The man walks over to one labeled ten and brings the key up to the golden lock that hangs around the handle. He shoves it in and twists, undoing the lock and opening the door. "Take whatever you want out and you can leave the rest if you want it to be trashed," The man says, "If you need anything from me, I'll be up front."

"Thank you," Seungmin says. The man nods before making his way down the hallway and leaving the three alone. Seungmin places a hand on the doorframe and takes a deep breath before slipping into the room. The cousin's follow after their friend. The area has automatic lights that flicker on as they enter, illuminating the rather large unit that is cluttered with stuff. Most of it is normal hunter's equipment. Guns, salt, knives, some interesting sigil lined boxes. Nothing out of the ordinary. The three begin to wander about. Chan lets his hands roam over books that have collected dust. Felix observes the weaponry, picking it up and pointing it in the air. "Hey, Seungmin..." The freckled boy says, a medium sized pistol in his hand.

"Take it," Seungmin calls out as he makes his way to the very back of the bunker.

"Thanks!" Felix exclaims, smiling as he slips the gun into his back pocket. Seungmin nods his head as he approaches a back area with an old, battered wooden desk cluttered with paper and writing utensils. It's surrounded by a metal cage wall that has an abundance of papers attached to them with string connecting some of them almost like a murder board. Seungmin pushes the seat out from underneath the desk and sits down on it. He goes through the papers, reading some of them quickly. A frown slowly appears on his face as he finds a stack of stapled papers listed targets. He flips through it and his chest starts to seize when he finds the names and pictures and info on friends. He drops the paper and runs a hand through his hair. He leans back in the chair and shakes his head as he scans maps taped to the walls that are labeled with different creature names. There are circles on certain areas, highlighting where there are massive amounts of said monster. Some have large check marks on them, signaling that this section has been taken care of. Seungmin grits his teeth and shakes his head, "Goddamnit hyung...why..."

"Seungmin?" Chan questions, walking over to where his friend is seated. Felix glances over as well and puts down the bazooka he was admiring. The cousins enter the area where Seungmin is in and look at their friend with concern. "Everything okay?" Felix asks.

"No," Seungmin sighs, "All of this...it just confirms everything you found out..."

"What do you mean?" Chan says in confusion.

"Those are letters he wrote to noona saying that he would avenge her and their unborn child by going after every monster on the face of the Earth," Seungmin points to the papers as he speaks, gesturing to everything on the tables and walls, "He became a crazed hunter. A bloodthirsty one that wanted a monster-free world. These are maps charting out locations of groups of different monsters which I'm assuming he found out about thanks to the alpha's he tortured. He would go after groups of them by himself and take them all out. And this!" The man of letters lifts up the packet again and shakes it in the air with anger. He shoves it into Chan's chest, who takes it and begins to flip through it. Felix leans close to him and both of their eyes widen when they see the contents of it. "He created a hit list of monsters," Seungmin says, "A description on how to end their life. Those are our friends. He made detailed profiles on our friends. He was going to exploit their weaknesses. He was going to use their trust in him to benefit himself. He purposefully went after Jeongin's family. He was going to steal Minho's grace! He was going to trap Changbin! He was going to torture Jisung in order to force Hyunjin to work alongside him! These were his plans....he came up with this..." Chan purses his lips together and tosses the packet back onto the table, disgusted with the in depth research that his former friend had done on their friends. Felix sighs and begins to pace around, having difficulty processing how someone could do something like this. "My brother was a hunter. A killer of the supernatural. He was a hero," Seungmin murmurs, "But in the end, he became the monster. He became the very thing that he vowed to kill. He's a monster....my brother...a monster...."

──────●◎●──────

Seungmin shakes his head, "You two made the right choice by giving this up. My brother doesn't deserve for you to try to avenge him or whatever..."

"Seungmin...." Chan says. The three walk out of the storage unit facility with empty hands. All too distraught to want to bring any of Wonpil's belongings back with them to Seoul. "It's fine," Seungmin says, "My brother was a good hunter. A good person. He just messed up. He ruined himself. He took his name and the trust he had built with friends and dragged it through the dirt. That's something that I'll have to come to terms with. Who my brother was before he died. I may never forgive him. One day I may. I don't know, but right now I have every right to be pissed at him." The cousins nod their heads, understanding that this is ten times as hard for Seungmin. It's going to be a lot for him to deal with, but the boy is strong and he'll get past it. "I guess that's it then," Chan says, "We're done. For good." The other two nod their heads in agreement, not wanting to drag this out any longer than they have to. They don't know what killed Wonpil. They may never know. They're fine with that. If they stumble across the truth one day, then they do, but they aren't searching anymore. They aren't putting in effort for someone who twisted trust. Someone who hurt innocents. Someone who became a monster.

And it all comes out. The reason behind Wonpil's choices and actions. Were you surprised? What did you think? I'm sure you're all curious about what's happening in the next chapters. It's going to be fun. The next few are some of my favs cause....well.... you'll see.
