Chapter 34
Our story continues. We're picking back up where we left off. I, again, have nothing really to say. This is another short chapter, so I hope that you enjoy!
"How is that even possible?" Chan asks, "The mansion is burnt down along with all the bones and all the items that any spirit could've attached itself too." He grips the iron crowbar tightly and creeps back towards the remains of the Kim home. "Well there's definitely something here," Felix says, "Unless you can explain why it got so cold and the frost on our windows in a way that isn't supernaturally."
"I didn't mean that it isn't a ghost," Chan states, "I'm just saying that the chances of a spirit still being here is like none."
"I know," Felix says, "Are you sure everything got burnt?"
"It had too," Chan says, "I mean besides the fridge. It's one of those old, super durable ones that can basically withstand anything. I don't think a human could be that attached to a fridge."
"Are you sure?" Felix asks, "Maybe, they really liked food when they were still alive."
Chan gives his cousin a look that says are you kidding me, "I really like food, but there is no way I am staying on earth when I die for that reason."
"It was just a suggestion," Felix shrugs, "Maybe, there's something in it?"
"Now that is a possibility," Chan says. The cousins slowly walk over to the fridge, checking their surroundings as they do in case the vengeful spirit decides to show themselves and attack them. "Cover me," Chan says as they near the fridge. He lowers his crowbar and lifts his free hand up to open the fridge. Before he can though, there's a flicker and a young boy appears in front of the fridge. He has long, wavy black hair and an innocent look on his face. He is garbed in a button down shirt and canvas pants. He has dark circles around his eyes and his skin is pale. His entire body is see-through and he speaks in an echoey tone, "Hyung?" Chan staggers back and tightens his grip on his crowbar. Felix whirls around and his eyes widen when he sees the ghost standing close to his cousin. Chan is about to lift it and swing it when he notices the sadness growing onto the young ghost's face. He slowly lowers his weapon much to the confusion of Felix. "You're not my hyung," The boy murmurs.
"No, I'm not," Chan says. Felix raises an eyebrow and opens his mouth to question his cousin about chatting with the ghost, but thinks better of it. "Where is he?" The boy questions, "I've been waiting a long time. He told me that he would come and get me out when it was over..."
"Who is your hyung?" Chan asks.
"Namjoon hyung," the ghost answers, "He said it would be just like hide and seek. He said I had to hide real well." Chan glances over at his cousin, who has a small frown on his face. "Are you Kim Taehyung?" Chan asks.
The ghost nods, "Do you know me?"
"I...I don't really," Chan says, "But, I read up on you and your family and your home..."
"Oh," Taehyung mutters and begins to ramble, "Those stories aren't true. The ones that they drop on our doorstop. Eomma is really friendly with others. She likes having guests. She just doesn't go out cause she's sick. And appa comes home more often than you think. He loves our family and that's why he works hard. He doesn't want us to have to struggle later in life. Jin hyung is more than just a pretty face and he is really funny. Namjoon hyung is super smart and isn't going to marry some girl. And me! I'm not just some stupid kid who doesn't know better. I know a lot more...like we weren't really playing hide and seek...were we?"
"No," Felix mutters, "I don't think you were..."
"I stayed put," Taehyung states, "Just like Namjoon hyung said. He said not to come out until I heard his voice. I thought you were him..." Chan purses his lips together and glances back at his cousin, not exactly sure how to deal with this situation. Taehyung died young, but he stayed on Earth for many years as a spirit. Usually, if a soul lingers here for too long they become messed up in the head and violent. That doesn't seem to be true for Kim Taehyung though. He's just as sweet as he was prior to his death. The hunter doesn't know what to say to the young ghost. Felix shrugs, not having any clue either. This isn't a situation that they find themselves in often. Most of the time, if a ghost is involved, they just burn the bones and move on. But, to do such a thing now is just cruel. The other way is by asking Taehyung to leave on his own free will, but how would the boy react if he's told that he's dead and he has to go up to heaven if he wishes to see his family again. "Do you know where hyung is?" Taehyung asks.
Chan shifts a bit uncomfortably and nods his head, "They're not here anymore. Not on Earth I mean."
"Oh," Taehyung says, "Where are they then?"
Chan lets out a sigh, "In heaven..."
"Oh," Taehyung states.
"Do you know what that means?" Felix says.
Taehyung slowly nods, "Eomma says heaven is a good place. She says grandma and grandpa are up there with the angels, but why would Namjoon hyung go up there?"
"Um..." Chan murmurs, not wanting to upset the ghost in any way, "He's...uh..."
"I could just go ask him," Taehyung says.
"You're going to go up to heaven?" Felix asks, "Willingly?"
"Hyung is up there," Taehyung says, "Why wouldn't I?" Chan and Felix share another look with one another, thankful that this situation is turning out to be a lot easier to handle then they first thought. "I just don't know how to," Taehyung says.
"You just need to let go," Chan says, "Whatever is keeping you here...you need to let that go."
"Can you do that?" Felix asks. Taehyung nods his head and takes a deep breath. His body starts to glow and the two hunters watch with raised eyebrows as Taehyung fades. The ghost turns into a small, glowing orb of light that hovers in the air. Chan watches it as it slowly flits around before whispering, "Go to them, Taehyung. They're waiting for you." With those words, the ball shoots into the air in a random burst of energy like a child after having too many chocolate bars. Felix and Chan stare as Taehyung's soul takes to the sky, leaving this world to go to another one. A better one.

"That was an experience," Felix says as they drive out of the forest and back to the main road.
"Yeah," Chan mutters as they turn.
"I'm actually kind of happy that Wonpil didn't burn Taehyung's bones," Felix says, "I mean...we don't personally know how it feels for a ghost when we burn their bones, but I imagine it's unpleasant. Taehyung wouldn't deserve to go through that. He's not a vengeful spirit or anything either. I'm glad he was just willing to move on..."
"Hmm..." Chan hums under his breath, a thought crossing his mind as they chat about Taehyung.
"What are you thinking about?" Felix asks, noticing his silent cousin.
"Wonpil," Chan sighs and then says in a bit of an annoyed tone, "Seems like I'm always thinking about him..." Felix notices it, but chooses not to point it out and make it that big of a deal. "We still don't know where his soul is," Chan says, "Considering the fact that he isn't in Heaven or Hell, it means that he's a ghost. He was a hunter too and he knows the way things work when you're a ghost. If he's still lingering on Earth, it's cause he chose to..."
"It may be for the best, Chan hyung," Felix says, "You know that even if we find him...he isn't going to be let in anywhere..."
"That's true," Chan murmurs.
"And it's not like we've completely given up on looking for him either," Felix says, "I mean we stumbled upon Taehyung...maybe we'll stumble upon Wonpil."
"And if we don't?" Chan questions.
"Then, we don't," Felix states.
Chan nods and lets out a quiet sigh before repeating his cousin's words, thinking about all the wrongdoings committed by his old friend, "Then, we don't."
A bittersweet end to this mission. The next... you'll just have to wait and see. As I mentioned last week, we really are nearing the end of the story. Let me know any last minute theories that you may have about Wonpil. Thank you for checking out this story and I hope you look forward to the next. Please comment, vote, add this chapter to your library and check out my other stories on Wattpad. Have a great rest of your day! Bye!
