Chapter 22
Hi, I am back with a new chapter for you. It continues off of where the last left off. I won't say more than that, so I hope you enjoy!
"Don't waste your time doing that," A voice says. The three all turn as a man with blonde hair and a fair face walks out from behind a large tree that is near the sandbox. He is garbed in a simple gray sweater and black pants. "Jeonghan-ssi," Minho says in surprise.
"Another angel?" Felix questions.
"Nice to meet you, hunters," Jeonghan says with a soft smile on his face.
"What are you doing here?" Minho asks, "How long have you been here?"
"I was just checking up on you," Jeonghan says, "Wanted to make sure you were okay. As to how long I've been here...long enough to hear your conversation."
"You were eavesdropping on us?" Chan questions in an annoyed tone.
Jeonghan shrugs, "God is always listening, isn't he? Why can't angels as well?"
"That's beside the point, Jeonghan-ssi," Minho huffs, "What we were talking about...."
"Is pretty major," Jeonghan says, "I know. If that hunter really did kill Seokminnie..."
"That's why we were going to check before the angels come down on him for possibly hurting one of their own," Chan says, "That was before you decided to grace us with your presence for no reason."
Jeonghan nods, "I stopped you from wasting any of your time actually."
"Wasting our time?" Felix questions in a confused tone.
"You were going to check up on your friend, Kim Wonpil, correct?" Jeonghan says.
"Yes," Chan says.
"Well, he isn't in heaven," Jeonghan says.
"W-what?" Chan asks with wide eyes. He looks over at his angel friend, who appears just as shocked as the blonde Aussie. "You're kidding, right?" Felix asks, "Wonpil was a hunter. He saved lives. He deserves to be in heaven."
"It doesn't matter if he deserves to or not," Jeonghan says, "When he died, his soul never came up there. I know. I'm in charge of helping all the souls get situated up above."
"There's no way," Minho murmurs, "How come I haven't heard of this? Everyone knows that Wonpil is my friend."
"Yes, they do, but you haven't been in heaven for a while," Jeonghan says, "We were planning on telling you when you returned home."
"Which isn't supposed to be until the end of the week," Minho huffs.
"It's not like you could've done anything if you learned of this any earlier," Jeonghan says, "A mere angel doesn't get to decide if a soul goes to heaven or not." Minho purses his lips together and nods his head, knowing his fellow angel is right. Chan stares at the blonde angel with burning eyes, his anger over the fact that his friend isn't resting peacefully in heaven pouring from him in waves. Felix looks over at his cousin with concern. He can feel that Chan is seconds from blowing up which will only end up bad for him. The freckled boy reaches a hand out and places it on his cousin's shoulder. He brings his face close to his ear and mutters, "Take a deep breath. I know you're upset, but going nuts on an angel isn't a good idea."
"He said Wonpil isn't in heaven," Chan huffs.
"I know," Felix says, "But, you aren't thinking straight."
"I need to get this out, Lix," Chan states.
"Then do it, without attacking the angel," Felix says, "And don't say you weren't planning on pouncing on him. I saw the look in your eyes." Chan sighs and nods his head. He takes a deep breath and does his best to reel in his emotions a bit. Felix looks at his cousin as some of the tension releases from his shoulders and his expression becomes a little less bloodthirsty. He releases his cousin and takes a step back, allowing for Chan to walk over to the blonde angel. "Why isn't Wonpil in heaven?" Chan asks, "Did something go wrong?"
"How would I know?" Jeonghan asks, taking a step away from the hunter, "It isn't my job to determine where souls go. If something did go wrong, you're talking to the wrong angel. I don't know anything about which souls get sent up."
"Then, where is Wonpil?" Chan asks.
Jeonghan shrugs, "I don't have a clue. I just know that he isn't in heaven. He could be down there for all you know or even lingering here."
"Are you telling me that Wonpil is a demon or ghost?" Chan growls.
Jeonghan sighs, "I didn't say that. I just said that his soul could possibly be somewhere else considering he isn't in heaven."
"I just don't understand," Chan murmurs, "He should be up there!"
"He clearly did more bad deeds than good," Jeonghan says.
Chan huffs, "How could you say that about him?"
"It's the truth," Jeonghan says, "Only the good souls go up to heaven. You know this."
"Wonpil was a good person," Chan says.
"Maybe, not as good of a person as you thought," Jeonghan states. Chan stiffens at these words as he thinks back to Wonpil's supposed actions in the different locations they visited. He wonders about how what went down in those towns was something a cruel hunter would do, not Wonpil. But, that doesn't mean that Wonpil was a bad guy. In the end, he still killed monsters. He killed things that could harm others. Chan shakes the thought from his head. No. Wonpil is good. He's always been good. "Leave," Chan says.
"Who? Me?" Jeonghan questions, "It's really rude to tell an angel to leave you know."
"I don't give a crap," Chan hisses, "I'm pissed off right now and I can't promise that I won't shove my blade into you out of anger. I'm giving you a chance to walk away." Jeonghan sighs and nods his head. He walks over to the gateway and waves at Minho before disappearing into a burst of white light. "You okay, Chan?" Minho calls out. The blonde hunter crosses his arms over his chest and frowns. "No," Chan states, "Why would I be fine, Minho?" The angel glances over to Felix, whose gaze is locked on his older cousin. "Maybe, Jeonghan-ssi was lying," Felix says.
Chan scoffs, "Was he lying, Minho?"
"No," Minho states, "He was telling the truth the entire time." Felix lets out a breath at that and scratches the back of his neck. "Well, maybe there has been a mistake," Felix reasons, "Just cause Jeonghan doesn't know about it, doesn't mean it didn't happen."
"Felix is right," Minho says, "There have been souls that don't end up in their rightful places. Wonpil could be one of them." Chan nods his head, even though he knows that his cousin and friend are just saying this to cheer him up. He wants to believe it himself. He can't believe that his late friend would be anywhere else but in the skies. So, he will go with the story that Wonpil's soul just got lost in shipping and needs to be redirected to its location. "We have to find him," Chan says, "And make sure he gets to where he is supposed to be."
Minho nods his head, "I'll keep an eye out for him."
"And we should call Changbin and ask him to check around hell," Felix says, "Just in case, Wonpil wandered down there..."
"Sounds like a plan," Chan mutters under his breath, his mind still reeling over everything. Between the angel guarding heaven's gate, Wonpil's journal entry, and now this. It's too much. What were you up to Kim Wonpil? What did you do that led to your soul not automatically going to heaven? And why does everywhere we go, it seems like you were the bad guy?
Ahhh! Things are stirring up with our characters and our main plot. It has brought up a lot of questions. I'm curious of any theories you have about where this story will go or what other kpop idols will appear (specifically what supernatural creature they may be). Let me know any thoughts you have in the comments below. Thank you for reading this week's update.
