Chapter 5: Everything Gone Wrong
A/N: I am sorry if you are bothered by the fact that Sena is 20 years old. Some may find it too old but I had to at least make it compatible to Daryun, who is 27 years old. The age difference is seven years (which is a huge gap).
Arslan is 14, having an age difference of 6 years with Sena. Narsus is 26. Farangis and Gieve is 22. Elam is 13. Alfreed is 16. Jaswant... Unkown.
Ellia is 23 years old.

"The thought of being a Marzban! I am already known for three titles and I don't need another." Sena walks around in the same place at the same time. She was confused and overwhelmed since this morning.
King Andragoras III made an open forum of making Sena a Marzban and it shocked the court. She could be the first female Marzban in history.
Lord Vahriz sighs, hearing this for at least two dozen times. "Sena, why don't you want to be a Marzban?" This old man doesn't understand why Sena disapproves of the title.
"Lord Vahriz, I have no honor and dignity on the battlefield. How can I be a Marzban?" The brunette pointed out, not knowing what to do.
Was I supposed to be happy?
Marzban, the highest military position that can ever be given. They command ten-thousand cavalry men, and Marzbans serve as border-defenders.
"Wether you have honor or not, to be offered the title of Marzban is something you don't just throw away. The King acknowledges your strength and skill on the same level as the other Marzbans." Vahriz was getting impatient with Sena. He likes her to accept the title because she deserves it from all the hard work she did for three years. She should be happy to serve His Majesty as a Marzban.
By now, the people probably already knows that the King is planning to make me a Marzban.
A word got out from the castle that the King is planning to make the Empress of a Hundred Weapons a Marzban. Meanwhile, Sena's clients within Ecbatana were shocked to hear the news. The Freelancer Sena, is to be a Marzban.
"I just can't see myself to be on par with Daryun, Kharlan, Kubard, Shapur, and the other Marzbans. The titles Royal Family's Assassin and Empress of a Hundred Weapons are enough. Isn't being a Marzban getting ahead of myself?"
There was a long pause as Sena halted in her tracks. Doubt filled her mind.
"If I accepted the position of Marzban, won't the others be jealous? I already have two titles and with Marzban as an addition, people won't help but feel like I'm favored by the King."
King Andragoras gave Sena a title at a young age of seventeen. He always asks her to do his bidding and takes her to the battlefield as much as possible. Sena and the those in-command knew that the King only does so because he is using her to his advantage but others think she is favored by His Majesty.
Sena can ignore the rumors within the castle that she was given a title with the reasons, she is favored by the King and that she was using Prince Arslan. She has no fame as a spy and assassin to the people, only to the enemy kingdoms. But she a well-known Freelancer.
She wasn't publicly announced to the people in any way by the King but she joins the march to the castle after a battle, which causes rumors among the people. People would ambush and attack her since then, only to be defeated in numerous ways. By a bow and arrow, sword, dagger, mace, sickle, it depended on what she used. Thus, earning her the title "Empress of a Hundred Weapons".
People will notice who she is right away when they see her greatsword. A century ago, a great blacksmith created three legendary greatswords that brought victory in countless battles. Only certain people can use it because of it's height of five-feet and weight of eight pounds. One of them fell upon Genral Kro who could use it with ease. Wanting Sena to inherit and use it, he called a sorceress to make adjustments. And so, Sena is one of the wielders of the legendary greatswords.
(Sena's greatsword is the middle one)
(The two are the same sword, just different angles)
"Sena, aren't you thinking too much about it? I expected you not to care what other people thought! Now enough of this nonsense!" Lord Vahriz yelled, getting impatient.
The door opened to reveal Daryun, who didn't even knock. He entered the room and saw that Vahriz was starting to get impatient. Looking towards Sena, she was confused.
"You still don't want to be a Marzban?" Daryun crossed his arms, confused to why Sena does not want the position. A normal person would be in great honor to receive such a position.
"Miss Sena doesn't want jealousy in the court." Vahriz sighed tiredly.
Daryun did a brief laugh, thinking it was hilarious for Sena. The Sena he knew doesn't listen to what other people say to her. She would just ignore them and did what she wanted.
"You saw the open forum yourself, everyone was positive about it." Daryun pointed out, still wondering why Sena is trouble about it. "Except for... Ellia. She didn't take it too well."
Ellia, who wanted fame and titles, was angered to hear that the King wanted Sena as a Marzban. Marzban is a title that anyone would be honored to have. And if Sena becomes Marzban, she's officially the first female Marzban which adds more fame.
"That girl needs to stop her obsession with fame and titles. It's a waste to her strength and skill." Vahriz pointed out.
"Being a Marzban means I have to quit being a Freelancer. You have nothing to counter that." Sena stated. Vahriz and Daryun had nothing to say about it because she's right. They know how much being a Freelancer is to Sena.
"Daryun, you convince her while I have to train His Highness." Tired of convincing Sena, he wanted to train Arslan. And so he leaves the room.
"I'll go watch them train." The brunette took a step forward.
"No." Daryun immediately stops her.
Sena finds it useless to go against him and to escape. With his strength and broad chest, she's unable to go anywhere. There was a choice of being crafty and sneaky but with Daryun knowing her tricks, it won't be easy to fool him.
"You get to be famous."
"I don't need to be, and I already am."
"More money to rebuild your fortress."
"I just only need a few hundred thousand gold coins. No need."
"The honor of being the first female Marzban."
"No."
Daryun sighs. Insisting Sena into something is almost impossible. Being a Freelancer for five years, she wasn't been forced to do anything. Except those times where the King or someone in-command wants Sena to do something for them. Lord Vahriz, few Marzbans, and some Generals have hired Sena as a Freelancer before.
Just then, Daryun thought of a perfect threat. "Lord Uncle and I will insist the King in making you Marzban right away."
"Don't you dare." Sena glared. "If that's the case then I'll make sure to make a request to Lord Vahriz that you'll marry. Perfect, we'll both suffer." She smirks and laughs at her own plan.
As Daryun was about to talk, someone knocked on the door and Daryun allowed the person to enter. It was Kharlan. He entered the room and faced Sena, wanting to tell her something.
"Sena, The King orders you go to Gilan, the port city. If you can assassinate the viceroy, Pelagius, with no witnesses then he'll officialy make you a Marzban." Kharlan announced.
"If I decline?" Sena didn't want to be a Marzban. And she knew, there was no escaping from the King.
"You know better not to decline." Kharlan sighs. Going against the King is a death wish.
"When?"
"Now."
Sena sighed in frustration. She has to leave her job as a Freelancer because being a Marzban is a full-fledged position that uses all her time.
"The next time we'll meet, I'm going to be a Marzban. Happy?" Sena leaves the room without looking at Kharlan or Daryun.
The main reason why she doesn't want to be a Marzban is because she'll have to stop being a Freelancer. Marzbans are always free to protect the Kingdom but Sena can't do that if she remains a Freelancer. She really wants to stay a Freelancer but with the King ordering her, she has no choice but to follow. She swore loyalty to the Royal Family.
Having everything prepared, she wanted to at least inform Arslan but whenever the King says "Now" it meant right away and make haste. Having no choice, she goes to her horse.
On the way, she meets and Ellia and expected a fatal attack from her. The moment they were at arms reach, Sena backs away swiftly, avoiding a cut to the throat by Ellia's knife.
"Why?! Why is it always you?! I'm way stronger than you and I have killed more than you!" Ellia yelled in pure anger, swaying her knife around in place like a maniac.
"And yet all the King sees is you! What everyone sees, is you! I'm more pretty and attractive and yet everyone surrounds your ugly face! I have more than a hundred titles and yet you're the one they notice with titles that aren't even impressive! I've been a pro killer and assassin since I was five! You're just a pathetic Freelancer!"
Sena swipes the cut on her robe on her thighs, revealing her legs and daggers attached to her thighs. She throws three daggers into the air and catches them with her mouth while she holds four daggers in each hand. One dagger in between her fingers, making it four daggers per hand.
With raging amber eyes, in one swift motion she was already in front of Ellia. Still in mid-air, the daggers on her mouth were only an inch away from the blonde's eyes and the daggers on her hand was ready to be thrown.
Moving back in a hurry and in a panic, Ellia barely escaped the daggers that were about to pierce her eyes. Unfortunately for the blonde, Sena's extreme senses made her eyesight ever so sharp, and that makes her a sharpshooter.
She throws the daggers at Ellia. Two daggers for each shoulder, and two more daggers three inches below the first throw. All eight daggers were successfully thrown.
Ellia screams in pain and agony, her clothes absorbing the blood from her injuries. Sena didn't show any guilt or regret.
"For the past two years, I didn't give any damn about your fame and titles. I didn't care if you spread bad rumors about me. All those attempts to kill me, I would act like it never happened. But if you dare insult me as a Freelancer, you're dead in my eyes." What Ellia saw in Sena's eyes is anger. And it looked like her amber eyes were lit, making it look like a flame.
The brunette left immediately and rode on her horse. She can't waste any time on Ellia anymore when she's busy with a task.
The moment she left Ecbatana, her chest was heavy.
Was it because Ellia insulted her as a Freelancer and she's still angry about it? Was it because she needs to quit being a Freelancer? Is it because she didn't get to say goodbye to Arslan? Or is it something else?
♔♕♖♗♘ Arslan Senki ♚♛♜♝♞
Three days had gone by and it was just then that Sena realized that she didn't know what the deadline was. How could she complete the task if she doesn't the deadline?
Her mind was occupied with a lot of things that she forgot to ask the deadline. She cursed, thinking how stupid she was. She was now at least ten farsangs away. Not only that, she wasted three days.
(1 Farsang = 5 kilometers)
The shortcut to Ecbatana is passing through Atropatene and it's a common route used by merchants and travelers. The route Sena took going to Gilan was passing through the wet mountain cliffs. She chose that route because no one would dare to enter the cliffs and no one will see her.
Clicking her tongue, she made haste to get out of the maintains by coming out of the other end. Going back on her tracks is useless and it'll take too long.
She got out of the mountain by the end of the day and she turned around to use the fields of Atropatene for a shortcut. By day five, the fields was already in her sight.
From far away she could see that the field was foggy. It was odd, especially that the sun was up and there are only a few clouds in the sky.
Thinking that the fog was dangerous to the field, she avoided it and passed by the sides. The smell of oil, fire, and smoke started to get stronger and stronger and she was confused. No one's burning around the field.
As she continues to make a mad dash across the field, an arrow unexpectedly flew out of the fog and barely missed Sena's eyes. She immediately halts the horse and it neighed loudly.
Looking at the fog, she couldn't see anyone or anything in it. Is someone trying to kill me?
Unsheathing her longsword, she enters the fog. When she was deep into the fog, the sight surprised her.
On the ground were dead Parsian and Lusitanian soldiers. Arrows were sticking out everywhere and swords layed on the ground. Puddles of blood were scattered everywhere. The smell of smoke was even stronger than before.
What is happening? What are Lusitanian soldiers doing in the middle of the Kingdom? What are they doing here in Atropatene?
Not knowing the current situation, she goes further deeper into the fog and saw the living hell on earth. There was a burning trench and people were fighting. She now knows the source of the smell of smoke.
A Lusitanian soldier appeared behind her and Sena reacted quickly, stabbing him in the chest. He fell from his horse and Sena splatters the blood from her sword to the ground.
She puts back her longsword and moves forward. To her front were four soldiers on foot and she gets her bow. Getting four unpoisoned arrows, she aims it at them at the same time. It pierces therir body and they fall to the ground.
While searching for Parsians, she killed Lusitanians along the way. She finds her way to the Parsian Army's side. Halting her horse in front of Parsians, the soldiers were surprised to see her in the field.
"Lady Sena!" Four foot soldiers chorused. The soldiers knew her, it was only natural because she joined the King and Generals in most of the fights.
"What is happening?" She demanded an answer.
"This was supposed to be Prince Arslan's Maiden Battle against Lusitania who declared war. By his side is His Majesty, Lord Eran and eight other Marzbans along with eighty-five-thousand (85,000) cavalrymen and a-hundred-and-thirty-eight-thousand (138,000) soldiers on foot for the battle." One of them explained.
All in all, the sum of soldiers is 223,000.
Arslan's Maiden Battle?!
"We fell for the enemy's trap and we are losing soldiers at an alarming rate. Marzban Khayr and Manuchurch are dead."
Khayr:
Manuchurch:
"Impossible! Are you saying that the Lusitanians killed two Marzbans and are winning?!"
The soldiers bowed their heads in shame. The army is at a disadvantage.
"His Highness has not been seen since the savages set the trench on fire. The others are still fight."
"Who are the other Marzbans that joined?"
"Kharlan, Shapur, Kubard, and Kushaeta. And Lord Daryun... Has been stripped from position of Marzban by His Majesty."
Kushaeta:
"What?!" Sena was shocked to hear what the King did.
"Lord Daryun suggested to retreat and talked about the court-hater Narsus in front of His Majesty. His Majesty was angered and greatly offended."
"Where is his Majesty now?"
"He should be somewhere in the battlefield with Lord Eran Vahriz by his side."
All of a sudden, men were shouting that the King has left the battle without ordering a retreat. The soldiers were in confusion and disarray. Their morale fell.
Sena was even more confused. The King left his men? Because he is the King and he has Lord Vahriz, she decided to search for Arslan who's lost in the battlefield.
"You four, retreat to Ecbatana!" Sena ordered.
"But the battle-"
"The King has left his men! Retreat to Ecbatana and re-group! Inform the King that I'm on the search for His Highness. Use the wet mountain cliffs as an escape route, no one will attack you there. Gather as much soldiers as possible and leave!"
"Yes ma'am!" The soldiers saluted and did as ordered, running.
Sena doesn't hold any position in the army but she is to be future Marzban and is rumored to be favored by the King. The soldiers respect and acknowledge her presence.
This is a disaster!
"Prince Arslan!" Sena called out and started to roam the field. Fining the prince is her priority right now. After knowing the King had left, he is safe. And because she swore loyalty to the Royal Family, finding Prince Arslan is of outmost importance right now.
"Prince Arslan!"
"Where are you Arslan?!"
"Respond to my voice!"
As she calls out for Prince Arslan while killing any Lusitanians that came her way, she was starting to worry for His Highness' safety. To even think she wasn't even there to be by his side during his Maiden Battle.
The King joined the Maiden Battle! He should've summoned me like he always does! He could've also take back the previous order and let me distinguish myself in the field instead.
"Arslan!"
A group of people came out of the fog and the first person Sena saw was Kharlan on his horse. She was relieved to see a familiar face, but Kharlan was shocked to see her in the battlefield.
"Kharlan! His Majesty has left the field. Just what is happening? Have you seen His Highness?"
Kharlan saw the confusion in Sena's face and took advantage of it. He just retreated from Arslan and Daryun, who refused to hear Kharlan's reason and join him. Sena doesn't know a single thing that's happening.
"There's a traitor within the army! Kubard and most of the Parsian Soldiers are on the savages' side! Not knowing who's side is who, His Majesty ordered to eliminate those who are suspicious and those seen with the enemy." Kharlan lied, making up a story that seemed genuine.
"Kubard? To think he would be on the Lusitanian's side..."
"Lord Kharlan, Lord Silver Mask has succesfully killed Eran Vahriz." A group of Lusitanians on their horses came out of the fog behind Kharlarn.
Kharlan turned his head towards them with a nasty look, cursing at their wrong timing. Sena on the otherhand understood the situation even if it was just a little of it.
"Kharlan! You betrayed His Majesty!" Sena yells furiously, drawing out her longsword once more.
"If you listen to me, you'll understand-"
Feeling bloodlust to her right, Sena moves her force backward, making it in time just before a spear pierces her head. The spear belonged to Ellia.
Coming out of the fog, Ellia was also on a horse.
"Another traitor." Sena clicked her tongue.
"Just so you know, I have no grudge against you even after knowing Lord Vahriz' death, currently." Sena pointed her longsword towards Kharlan with a death glare. "We'll meet again, and then we'll talk about this."
Pulling her horse, it neighed loudly and stood on it's hind legs. Stomping on the ground, she whipped and the horse made a mad dash away from Kharlan and his men.
Her heart ached after knowing that Vahriz had died by someone called "Silver Mask". He was someone dear to her, and if it wasn't for him Sena would not have been who she is now in the first place.
Forcing to stop her tears, she continues to call out for Arslan.
"Arslan! Prince Arslan!"
"Your Highness, where are you?!"
"Arslan!"
After a long silence while searching, someone responded in the fog.
"Sena? Is that you? Where are you?"
