Chapter 1: Royal Capital of Pars, Ecbatana

A/N: This is an Arslan Senki Fanfic. It's concentrated more on the adventures of the OC, Sena, together with Arslan and his companions.

Later in the story, I plan on having my OC having Daryun as a love-interest because he is one of the available males in the series. And I plan on adding comedy into the story to make it fun. Comment if you don't want comedy as its genre.

If ever the Anime Series made a canon love interest for Daryun in the future, just imagine that it doesn't exist. I hope it doesn't come to that. Although in the Novel Series of Arslan Senki, Daryun had a romantic relationship with a princess in the country Selika in the year 317.

I'll be adding Arslan Senki photos and gifs in the story. I am sorry to the people who are offline readers because you won't be able to load the images.

"It's been two years, huh." A teenage girl sighs from reminiscing. A strong breeze lets her dark brown hair fly at it's direction. She inserted strands of hair at the back of her ear for it to remain in place.

The hot sun had made her amber eyes looked like it was a flaming red color.

Two years had gone by since Sena became a Freelancer. Since then,  she has been to cities in the neighboring kingdoms and most of Pars. As a Freelancer, she would look for clients and do their bidding. Whatever their nationality and belief as long as they're willing to accept her, Sena would gladly do what they ask for.

Seeing that the gates of Ecbatana is nearing, she remembers the General that holds a special place in her heart. He would tell her stories of Ecbatana on how wonderful and deadly it is.

When Sena was a under the General's care, he would tell that the road to Ecbatana is filled with blood. Not literally, but it meant danger awaits in Ecbatana. From a fortress located at eastern Pars up to her current location, Sena hasn't encountered any trouble at all.

Maybe the General was trying to scare me back then. Sena thought.

Upon arriving at the gate of Ecbatana, the young adult got off from her horse and walked towards the soldiers wearing red armor who are guarding the gate. "State your name and reason for coming here." said the soldier to the right.

"Sena, and I'm a Freelancer." The brunette told them.

The two soldiers gave each other looks and had doubt in their eyes. People give the same reaction whenever they hear it. The two men saw a long sword attached to the horse in a horizontal position. They confirmed it was a 2-handed greatsword. After a few exchange of opinions, they let her in. Sena walked her horse from then on as she entered the Royal Capital.

(Greatsword is an actual word. The full name would be 2-handed greatsword. It's a kind of sword that is a category itself. The greatsword will be explained in a future chapter.)

Coming here for the first time in Ecbatana, she can say that the city is lively with people and merchandises. It was to be expected because this is the royal capital of Pars.

The sun will be gone soon in a few hours and deciding to look for a place to stay was a smart idea. Thinking of her greatsword that has a length of five-feet will catch people's attentions, she pricked her index finger with her dagger and dropped a droplet of blood to her greatsword. It became short with a length of two-feet. Sena then attaches her greatsword to her belt.

"Excuse me, are there any cheap places to sleep in?"

"Do you know a place that offers a low price for the night?"

"What's the best yet cheap place for me to stay at night?"

Sena canvased and compared the places and the prices from the information she received. Money was not an issue for her but staying simple and cheap is always the best in her line of work.

The place called Pars' Nights is the place she found the best.

For now, I'll rest and tomorrow I'll start learning the nature of the city.

Asking for directions, she came across the building. It had at least three floors. This made her confirm that Ecbatana is a rich place.

Before entering the building to rent a room, Sena brought her horse to back of the building. At the back, you can see how many rooms there were because of the open hallways. Tying her horse to a fence securely so it won't escape or be stolen, she was looking at the people who were washing clothes at the canal.

Loud footsteps on wood was heard from above to be followed by a bunch of them. To raise Sena's curiosity more, it seems there was a commotion upstairs. Walking away from the building to see what's happening above, two kids jumped off the rails.

By instinct, she held out her hands and ran towards the falling kids. She caught the white-haired kid first and embraced him, holding his head to avoid head injuries from the fall. Sena landed on her back to protect the boy, topping over baskets that contained clothes, and she immediately lets go of the boy to catch the other boy. The blond landed on her arms and Sena fell on her knees from the force while a sword fell to ground at the same time.

She thought that the white-haired kid was a girl and the blond kid as a boy.

When the blond opened his eyes, he gets off from Sena's arms in a hurry. "Let go of me, Heathen!" He then grabs the sword, shocking Sena. After that, he drags the white-haired and they both ran.

Heathen? Sena furrowed her eyebrows.

What was that for?

"After them!" The soldiers upstairs goes down to chase the kids.

Sena thought that the kids did something to get the soldiers' attention.  It made perfect sense to her because the blonde had a sword with him.

Were they troublemakers?

Once the soldiers arrived at the ground, they asked what direction the kids took and Sena pointed to the right, "They escaped using the wide road over there and I believe they turned to the right after coming out of the other end." She told in detail.

"Thank you."

"Let's hurry!"

Once they left, Sena apologizes to the people washing clothes because of the ruckus and mess she did. With that being over, she walks going to the front and rubbed her left shoulder because of the fall. It doesn't hurt to the extent that it'll bleed but I it was lightly bruised.

Receiving her key, she checked the rented room. It was simple and clean. She decided to keep it.

Because there was some time left, Sena headed out to chat with people. It's a need to ask who's important in the city and who to avoid. Done talking to six people, she went further into the city. On the way, someone bumped onto her and from the speed and body of the person, Sena fell to the ground.

It was a male and he had a huge body. It was no wonder Sena fell to the ground like a thin wooden post. He had tanned skin, black hair, and golden-brown eyes. If Sena was also running at the time, then she would've hurt herself from the collision and would be thrown even farther.

What a scary figure. Sena thought.

"Sorry." He hurriedly helps her up and Sena felt like she was a feather when he pulled her. "Bye." And the man continued to do a mad dash.

What's he in a hurry for?

Facing to her destination, two soldiers stood firm in front of Sena. When did they get here?

"We would like you to accompany us." They chorused. With spears in their hands and a serious look on their faces, it proved that they were real soldiers.

"I did nothing wrong, sirs." Sena defended herself, recalling if she did anything that might have violated Parsian rules a while ago. No, she did not.

"It's nothing of that sort."

"Then why do you need me?"

"Lord Vahriz summons you to the palace."

Vahriz?!

The name broke Sena's facade for a few moments but recovered right after. From the information she had gathered, Vahriz is the Eran, the Supreme General and right-hand man of King Andragoras III.

What does a man of his caliber want with me? Did I execute one of his acquaintances from a former mission? But I don't remember killing anyone who has any business with the Royal Family.

Run? Don't run? She made a quick debate in her head and came up with an answer.

Taking a deep breath, she replied. "Then I'll follow you."

On the way to their destination, the soldiers positioned themselves on Sena's sides. She look like a prisoner or a traitor with this formation.

Along the way, she tries to remember the roads and paths taken because she has no idea where they're going take her. There was a choice of killing them, but she finds the event interesting.

Before she even realized it, they have entered the castle and inside stood more guards in red. Lost in confusion, Sena's facade broke once again.

This is definitely a place that one cannot simply escape. Sena started to think in a panic from the unexpected event.

If they wanted me dead, they would've killed me back there and then. If they wanted me in jail, the soldiers would announce my wrongdoing and take me to immediate custody.

Looking at the sky, it was a beautiful color of orange, red, and purple. It was already sunset. Sena admitted it's beauty, but the colors didn't look appealing right now. It made her uncomfortable.

The two soldiers that brought her here stopped by an entry way. "Please go in." They stepped aside for Sena to enter and waited for her to do so.

Doing what they told her, Sena entered and sees herself to be in a training ground. It was a place for sword practice.

Am I going to be executed here?

Walking further, Sena sees an old man and she halted not too far away. "Hello miss, I'm Supreme General Vahriz." The old man introduced while walking closer. "What may your name be?"

"Sena." The teenager replied with respect. She thought that if she didn't sound respectful and formal, it would mean death.

Vahriz smiles and laughs lightly. "Sena, this is a reward for saving Prince Arslan." He brought out his hand and on his palm is a large pouch. "It contains five-hundred gold coins."

Sena raised her eyebrows in surprise. She doesn't know what he's talking about and here she is with five-hundred gold coins in front of her.

"I don't remember saving a prince." She told him with an honest tone. She chose to be honest as much as possible.

"Oh? So it was not you who broke the prince's fall to the ground?"

Sena caughed on her saliva and tried to recover from the shocking news that she just heard. One of the kids from earlier was the prince. "The blond boy is the prince of Pars?"

"Blond? His Highness, Prince Arslan, has white hair."

The revelation shocked Sena like never before. She really thought that the silverette was a girl.

Vahriz chuckles at her confusion. "It seems that you are new here to Ecbatana."

"I am, but I am Parsian and this is my first time in Ecbatana." Sena stated, to make sure there won't be any misunderstandings in the future.

"Hm. I see." Vahriz nods in understanding. From time to time, he kept glancing at Sena's sword. It was visually similar to a sword he knows but longer.

The old man, Vahriz, seemed to be a good person in Sena's eyes. When he talks, there is no negative intent and he reminds Sena of her father.

A new voice broke the silence. It was masculine and deep. "Lord Uncle, I'm back."

Looking at the source, Sen sees the man who bumped onto her earlier.

What's he doing here? And... Lord Uncle?

The man looks at Sena as well and was shocked to see her in the palace.

"How's His Higness?" Vahriz asked the man.

The raven shifts back to Vahriz, uncertain if he'll report with a stranger in sight. He reported anyway. "We got back His Highness and he wasn't injured. As for the Lusitanian boy, I failed to catch him."

"That's good to hear. And I think I already know how the boy escaped." Vahriz strokes his beard, having a clear image of Prince Arslan helping the Lusitanian boy escape.

Their eyes fell on Sena and the subject went back to her.  "This is my nephew, Daryun." Lord Vahriz introduced the man beside him.

Daryun?! Sena couldn't believe her luck. She saved a prince, met the Supreme General, and now this person.

He's the Cavalry Captain of Pars and he's a Marzban. Daryun was also commonly known as Mardan Fu Mardan of Warrior of Warriors.

To think I came across this guy and to meet him here again...

"It's a pleasure to meet you." Sena bows her head to show respect, but it was forced. "I'm Sena."

"Sorry for bumping onto you earlier. Are you hurt?"

"I appreciate the concern but I'm fine. There are no injuries."

"It seems that you two have already met. Daryun, Sena saved His Highness from a fall during the chase." Lord Vahriz explained to his nephew. Daryun gets the image.

"So you were the one who saved him. We are deeply grateful to you." Daryun bows his head in gratitude.

The group of soldiers back at Pars' Nights reported the events that took place to Lord Vahriz and the news spread like wildfire. Lord Vahriz wanted to reward the girl in genuine gratitude.

"To be honest, I didn't know that he's the prince." Sena told them.

"We are still grateful. Please accept this." Lord Vahriz offers the bag of coins again.

Sena looked at with with uncertainty. The main reason she wanted money is to rebuild Grahadi Fortress and she still has a long way to go before fully rebuilding it. The money would be great help, but accepting it felt wrong.

"I really can't accept that." Sena insisted.

"You're new here to Ecbatana, so I believe that you don't have a job. What about you work for these coins?" Vahzir won't give up either. And he kept eyeing Sena's sword.

"I'm a Freelancer, finding a job isn't hard."

It took them by surprise. Being a young female Freelancer will really surprise people.

Vahriz' demeanor changed. From calm, he became alert. Seeing this, Daryun's body tensed, ready to move abruptly at any moment. As for Sena, she readied to move backward and run.

Was it a bad idea to tell them that I'm a Freelancer?

People think of two things upon hearing the word "Freelancer". First, it is someone who works for more than just one person. Second, the person is a mercenary. Sena is both.

I couldn't blame them. Freelancers are dangerous and mysterious. Hah, I love my job.

"Where did you get that sword?" Lord Vahriz asked. The sword really bothered him.

Sena unconsciously touches the handle of my sword, thinking of her father. "It was given to me by my father." Saying this, Vahriz didn't look convinced and he looked so disappointed. He thought Sena could be trusted.

"All of Kro's children died."

"You know General Kro?"

Feeling that Sena had to explain who General Kro is to her, she relaxes her tensed muscles and tried to become comfortable.

"Retired General Kro became my adoptive father. He served me and my family as a promise to my late biological father until he died six years ago." She explained, recollecting the past.

LordVahriz immediately took back his awful demeanor and relaxed. Daryun followed.

"So you must be Sena Prasya, daughter of Count Dorohan Prasya."

"You know me?"

Lord Vahriz nods. "My dear friend Kro sends letters once in a while to keep in touch. In one of his letters, he stated that he will be protecting the Prasya family. There was a time he didn't send any letters and I found out that a few days later, Grahadi Fortress has fallen along with its people."

"The truth is, only General Kro and I survived that day. We took refuge and lived in a small village close to the fortress for six years until the drought brought famine to northern Pars. At the age of seventy-four, General Kro died from sickness."

It still pains Sena to remember his death. Oddly enough, she feels more sad whenever she thinks of General Kro than her own real father. It was perhaps because she lived with General Kro more than my her own father and they went through hardships together.

"I'm sorry for thinking ill of you." Lord Vahriz apologized.

"Ah," he said when he looked at the sky. "It's already dark. Why don't you come in and we shall have a chat?"
