Chapter 5

It really wasn't Haruto's day. Or even weeks maybe. Maeda was driving him crazy for a whole month and even made him make a mistake, a fridge in his room suddenly stopped working and his younger brother broke his leg. Everything was not right. He took a glance at his phone and pursed his lips. Stupid. It was his day off, yet he felt even more tired than usual. He put his phone down and let out a small breath.

"Can I get you something?" asked him bartender. He probably sat in this izakaya bar without ordering anything for at least half an hour. He looked around. It wasn't all empty as it was when he first entered it. Suddenly all sounds hit his ears. People were now yelling 'cheers!', clinking with their glasses, every now and then someone shouted for a refill and meat was sizzling over the fire. It was almost overwhelming.

"One highball, please."

He felt like he should wait. But he's been waiting for so long already and that was only one drink. Haruto took out a pack of cigarettes and opened it. But should he smoke?, he wondered. He didn't like Haruto smoking. Not when they were to meet. He drew a cigarette out anyway. For a heartbeat he hold it between his fingers, staring at it blankly. What's the point? He bit his lip and shove a cigarette back inside angrily. He wasn't even there, yet he put a spell on Haruto. Like always.

Once again Haruto opened his phone and scrolled through his texts. Did he even read the message? He sent it in the morning, there should be a reply. They set the date around a week ago, he should be here already.

Yet, Haruto was sitting all by himself with ice watering down his whisky. He took a small sip. A pack of cigarettes was burning in his pocket, his fingers itching to touch it, hold it, smoke it at last. But he didn't. There was still time. Or was it? Haruto looked around. People coming in every minute and in every minute there was less and less space. He shouldn't occupy the table for so long.

He took another glance at his phone, but it stayed silent. Maybe there was something wrong with LINE app? "Yeah, sure", he snickered under his breath. He knew better than this and he should've seen it coming. Fujimoto didn't reply to his message for weeks, so why even be bothered by his sudden call? Only someone stupid would jump on such opportunity. Well, Haruto was stupid, he knew that. He was stupid thinking Fujimoto would come. And he wasn't even sad about it, he couldn't care less about him. But he felt... disappointed.

He took out his cigarettes once again, this time determined to actually smoke. But the second he turned on the lighter, familiar voice said: "Sorry for keeping you waiting."
