Stowaway
Stowaway
by sloanranger
I'd stowed away on the boat
until she was well afloat.
Shang-hai bound,
I was soon found
by ship's cook, in a barrel of groats.
On deck there was quite a scene,
So nervous I'd never been.
I trembled and shook
as soon as I looked,
into his eyes of sea green.
'What did you think you would see?'
he gestured at the sea.
'Do you know how to swim?'
"No," I told him,
'Then why are you here, with me?'
'Don't you know you could be harmed?'
I said: "No but I'm not alarmed;
as long as you're here,
I have no fear,"
and he took me into his arms.
We sailed the seas for seven years,
and I admit there were some tears.
But for most of the time
our travels sublime,
seas calm, and skies were clear.
One day, dark claimed the sky,
the waves grew 10 feet high;
A terrible squall
took ship, crew and all -
t'was a new journey for you and I.
But the waves threw us on shore,
wet and cold to the core.
The sea was not through
with me and you
and I loved you as never before.
Now twenty-five years in these climes,
and we've loved for all of this time.
I was right, I knew,
to follow you,
since that day we became - we two.
