Naya

Naya was what the mortals called her.

Calm, kind and the wisest being to ever exist.

They came to her for advice, earthlings and Gods alike. And she always repaid in kind, taking them in and showing them the knowledge they wished to gain in her waters.

So on Gaia they could dwell a more righteous life.

Borrowing from her divine knowledge, so they could live as monks, as Divine advisors to the Kings and Holy Sages.

Naya went on, blissful as the clouds on a rainy day.

But soon, another being came into existence, one that hovered over her and showered her with gentle light. Not like the sun did, which took away her water by carrying it to the heavens. But a cooling, white light.

Nol, was his name.

She began to watch him night after night, waiting for the sun to leave so the moon could take it's place.

With an innocent fascination.

Till on a day, where the entity of the moon came down on Gaia, washing himself on a nearby spring, fed by her water.

She watched the water trickle down his pearl like skin, watching the light reflect off of them like a thousand shimmerimg diamonds. Noticed the way the water bent to cling to his body at different angles.

The way some of the water dribbled into his mouth, falling through perfectly sculpted pink lips, down to his strong jaw.

A man as perfect as can be.

She walked up to him as he bent down to cup a handful more of her water, standing before him in a serene manner.

He looked at her, blinking. Waiting for an explanation as to why she would interrupt him.

“I am Naya.” She said.

“I am Nol.” He said back, his voice a deep husky sound that sent shivers down her spine.

“You are new, yes?”

“Relatively.” He said. “Why have you come here, Naya?”

“I am the water you bathe in, never have I felt such a being inside — forgive me for my curiosity, but I had to see who was the light in the night sky.”

The entity raised a thick brow, a charming smile dotting his face. “You have seen me, then. I am pleased to make your acquaintance.”

He cupped more water and dropped it over his body, it was hard not to stare.

“Is there anything further you would like to say?” He called over his shoulder.

So Naya took a deep breath and stilled her beating heart. “Venture further, can we?” She asked, a drawl longer than a banner.

Nol took a deep breath and stalled. “There is another I'm afraid, I won't bother you again.”

Like a rabbit nearing winter, he beamed off into the heavens leaving Naya alone in the water.

Though that wasn't the end of it, time and time she tried again. But soon the man grew tired of her persistence. He no longer came down into the soothing springs, only on land if ever he did.

Whenever she asked why he would not, he said, “The light of my life is Sol, that is that. She gives me light so I can shine, you take my light and give none back.”

She stopped then, no more hope of a lasting impact. Her waters grew salty and undrinkable as everyone turned to worship the sun more steadfast.

Everyone thanked the Sun now for life, the one she wished for and all those she already had.

No one came to her for knowledge no more, she was left forgotten. So sometimes when they dared to turn a blind-eye to her, she sent a Tsunami their way to remind them of her power through havoc.

After that, atleast she was respected. But it didn't change the salt that remained besotted.

And milinea after still, the Sea still yearns for the Moon as much as the first day. In the form of waves and currents that reach out to grip it's shiny mane.

It is still that way.

That is why there are waves.
