They never came back.
They promised they would.
But they didn't.

I was at my aunts house, that day the police knocked on her door. I remember it like it was yesterday.

I was playing on the Xbox that my aunt had at her house. I was five at the time. The game I was playing, if I can remember, was about zombies that had taken over space. Don't ask. I was a weird kid.  Not much has changed. I was so focused on the game, that I didn't hear the knock on the front door of my aunts two story home. My aunt had walked to the door in her bathrobe. She was getting ready for some party her friend was having. I heard the door creak open. I heard two voices. One was deep and raspy, the other one higher pitched, probably a female. Interested, I paused my game and put the controller down. I tiptoed to the wall where the entrance was and peeked around the wall. There were two people decked out in a police uniform. And I was right. Next to the tall male, was a shorter female. I couldn't hear what they were saying, but I was pretty good at reading lips. So the male officer is saying that...ummm...there's a lost...dog...eating...coconut water? Yeah that's what he said. The female officer picked up after the man. Ok let's see um...the dog...attached...itself to the...underground...apple tree? Ok that makes sense. My aunt then turned around and saw me peeking around the corner. She held her hand up to the officers.

"Jennifer! Come here please!" She called for my cousin? But why? I'm enjoying this. Jen stepped off the last stair and walked to her mom. She whispered something to Jen and pointed to me. Me, being the little kid I am, I waved enthusiastically. Jen walked over to me and bent down to my level.

"Hey pal, you wanna go to the park?" I nodded with a smile. She grabbed my hand and we walked out the back door. As we were rounding the front I saw the two cop cars. I then heard crying inside. I pulled at Jen's shirt and pointed to the house once I had her attention.

"Someone is crying inside" I said in my high pitched voice. Jen didn't do anything, all she did was sigh. She turned me around and bent down to my level.

"Everything is going to be ok" I was kinda confused at her words, but went with it. With those few words, we headed off to the park.
