Interview: Kaylin_WC
1. What is your name? (you can skip this one if you are uncomfortable saying)
My name is Kaylin (I'm not really comfortable exposing my last name at this time).
2. How would you describe yourself? (in three sentences or more)
I would describe myself probably as obsessive, ambitious, and unique maybe? This was a very hard question for me to answer actually, I don't really think about this kind of thing very often. I would say I'm obsessive because I tend to obsess over things that I enjoy (things such as writing and reading). I call myself ambitious because I always try my absolute best to get everything as perfect (I know there's no such thing as perfect though) as I can get it, and I really love succeeding at what I do, so I try really hard to do just that. I would say I'm unique, or different, because I don't really share the same hobbies or interests as my classmates in my school do.
3. What languages do you speak?
I speak English. English is the only language that I speak fluently (since it's my first language), but I'm currently taking Spanish classes and I intend to become fluent in the future.
4. Have you ever been to a foreign country? Anywhere other then the one you would call home? If so, what are some interesting things you saw there?
I have never been out of my country, but in April, I went on a school trip to Washington, D.C. I haven't ever been there before, so it was a great experience seeing the buildings and land that my country is founded on, and important national landmarks that were around that area. We went to a lot of memorials (which was really sad because I absolutely despise war) and a lot of government buildings (such as the Capital and the White House) which was very exciting. I've always loved learning about the United States, so this was a very interesting trip for me to take and I'll never forget it. Also, I went in George Washington's house, and saw the bed he died in, and walked up the same stairs he did. I don't think this excites anyone else, but for me it was really, really fascinating.
5. What is it that inspires you to write? Is it a person? A place? Anything!
My mother has been a definite inspiration for me to keep writing and to pursue becoming an author. She used to write herself, so she's always telling me what I need to work on, and how proud she is of me and what I do on Wattpad. She's been a great person to look up to. However, although other people have also told me to keep writing (such as my teachers), my best friend Emma has really put forth effort into encouraging me to continue writing. She's always helping me by telling me what she thinks of my ideas, and she's been a great source of inspiration for me over the past year. I really owe her a ton for that and I'm very thankful.
6. Why did you choose your username on here, does it represent you? Is there a story behind it?
My username is really simple, actually. It's just my name, an underscore, and WC, which stands for Warrior Cats. :)
7. How old were you when you took an interest in writing?
I've always enjoyed writing, but I think I took a serious interest in it during sixth grade, so when I was about eleven or twelve. I'm going into ninth grade now, so that was about two or three years ago.
8. What was the first story you wrote that you can remember? What was it about? Is it on Wattpad?
The first story that I can remember writing was in first grade. It was an assignment for Father's Day (I'm currently writing this on Father's Day this year by the way, so Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there!) and we had to write about what we love to do with our fathers. I wrote about how my dad and I always went fishing, and my teacher used my work as an example for the entire grade! Since I wrote this almost nine years ago, it's not on Wattpad, haha.
9. Do you prefer to write your story on paper first? Or do you just go straight to the computer?
I go straight to the computer when I go to update my stories. I'm personally a faster typer than I am a writer, so I find it much easier to be able to put my ideas down as quickly as possible. I can edit what I've written a lot quicker that way as well, so I just prefer to skip writing on actual paper.
10. How did you find Wattpad, and what about Wattpad is the reason you decided to stay once you found it?
I found Wattpad when I was majorly obsessed with One Direction (still am, but I mean, not the point here). My friend was reading a ton of fanfictions she was dying for me to check out, so I decided to go ahead and start reading some. I instantly fell in love with the concept of the site, and decided to make an account. I one day decided to create a Warriors account (not realizing how big the Warriors Wattpad community already was) and that's what really kept me here, the nice people and the good feedback I was getting.
11. What is your favorite book on Wattpad, what is it about this story that makes it your favorite, and why would you suggest this book to others?
To be honest, I really don't have a favorite story on Wattpad. I've read so many great stories, but to be completely honest, I haven't been reading a whole lot within the last few months. I definitely have to get back to my obsessive reading, that's for sure. But when I do find some new stories, they'll most likely be in my reading lists on my profile. Sorry!
12. Who is your favorite author in all of Wattpad? What are some of their stories that you have read and what makes them your favorite?
Since I don't have any favorite stories at the moment, I also don't have a favorite author. I'll have to get back to this question as well :(
13. How did you find out about Warriors and what made you stick to the series?
I found out about Warriors in fifth grade because my friend Moriah was obsessed. To be completely honest (I've been saying that a lot), I thought the whole idea of the series was pretty stupid, so I never read them when she wanted me to. Unfortunately, after fifth grade, she moved away. But, in sixth grade, I didn't have a book for silent reading once and my teacher sent me to the library to grab a book. She said if I wasn't back in five minutes, I would be in trouble. I saw Warriors on the shelf and decided to just go ahead and grab it, and I was hooked from the very first page. I just couldn't put the book down, and I was repeatedly sending my mom to Barnes and Noble to get me the next book in the series!
14. What is your favorite scene from any of the books and why is it your favorite?
My favorite scene was probably (spoiler ahead if you haven't gotten to the fourth series yet) the great battle between the Dark Forest and the Clans. The specific scene I'm talking about though is when Spottedleaf shows up to save Firestar, but she ends up dying forever. I loved this scene because all the emotion and heartbreak (because let's face it, Firestar was always in love with Spottedleaf) just really got to me. I'm a huge fan of emotional books, so this really did it for me. I just cannot get over it! *sobs* Spottedleaf promised him!
15. Who is your favorite character from Warriors (not a fan fiction) and why is that character your favorite?
My favorite character is probably Leafpool. I always love the medicine cats, but Leafpool just really stuck out to me because of all she's been through. (More spoilers ahead) She knew all about Cinderpelt/Cinderheart, she ran away with Crowfeather and had Hollyleaf, Jayfeather and Lionblaze and kept it a secret for so long, she became a warrior after serving as ThunderClan's medicine cat, etc. She always seems to be filled head to toe with secrets...hmm....also, I really love her name.
16. What would your warrior name be and why?
My warrior name would probably be Shadepool, or something of the Shade prefix. I've roleplayed many characters, but 'Shade' has always been my go-to prefix and was my very first roleplay character. Shade is the name of my first pet cat as well, so I just feel a name like that would suit me.
17. What inspired your fan-fiction(s)? Both from in the original series as well as from your everyday life.
I was inspired to write fanfictions because of roleplay, actually. I really loved (and still do) to roleplay, but sometimes I got a little irritated when a roleplay didn't go exactly how I wanted it to, or that I had a really good idea for a roleplay but it never went down that path. I guess I just wanted a place where I could carry out those ideas and really express what I was thinking.
18. How many people that you know in person also read warriors?
I've counted eight people that I know of.
19. Has anyone you've known in person made fun of the fact that you read Warriors?
No one has ever made fun of the fact I've read Warriors to my face, but I know people don't take it as a "cool" thing to do. However, I once knew a kid who read Warriors and was called gay by our classmates simply because the cover of his book had a cat on it.
20. What is your favorite warriors fan fiction on Wattpad? Why is it your favorite and who is the author?
Like I've stated before, I haven't read anything on Wattpad in a very long time. But scrolling through my library, I remember really liking "The Abandoned Warrior" by . However, I don't believe I ever was able to finish it because I simply got too busy to read.
21. What are some other books that you read? (not from Wattpad)
I've read a ton of books outside of Wattpad, but I've read a lot of the popular books that everyone knows of. The Hunger Games, Divergent, The Fault in Our Stars, Delirium, etc. It's really late at night right now so I can't physically think of any other more unique/less heard of books at the moment, but I've definitely read a lot of books in my time.
22. What is something about you, that you think no one else would know about just by seeing you? Something that not many people know about. (not necessarily a secret, but something that just hasn't been brought up)
This was another really tough question for me to think about. I think something a lot of people (from online) wouldn't guess that I'm a very shy person in real life, because I open up a lot more on Wattpad. Oh, and I really like to dance around my house in the middle of the night. No one really knows about that.
23. Are there any websites other then Wattpad that you use and would like to suggest to the rest of the Wattpad community? If its a website with accounts, what's your username on it?
This really isn't a "website", but more of an app. I really suggest that a lot of people make Warriors Instagram accounts, because it's another huge Warriors community where a lot of fanfictions and roleplays take place. Also, if you like to draw fanart or something like that, it's a wonderful place to share it! I don't have an active Warriors account at the moment, and I don't really feel comfortable putting up my personal account for everyone to see right now. But if anyone is interested, they can privately message me. :)
24. If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be and why?
I would probably go to Australia. As you guys now know, I haven't ever left the United States, so it would be a pretty cool place to go. I love their accents, and I've never been in an ocean, so it would be pretty cool to go to an Australian beach! I also like how it doesn't differ from the United States too much (they still speak English) that I would feel lost, and I just really wish I could go there!
