Why did you choose to cover this song?

I've always loved Lightning Crashes! It's one of those songs that I always have to crank up when it comes on the radio. When I was bumbling over what song to try for this competition my mom pretty much demanded that I record it because it's her very favourite to listen to me sing.

What does music mean to you?

I come from a pretty musical family, so it's just always been around. There were always instruments around when I was growing up, and even if we weren't actively playing them my mom was always singing around the house and stuff. My husband and I do it too, and now my three-year-old daughter sings random made-up songs about what she's doing. XD It's just kind of ingrained. I don't know what life would be like without somebody close to me just randomly bursting into song.

What do you love about performing?

Honestly it's been a long time since I've performed or even recorded. I used to do live shows a decade or so ago and it was TERRIFYING but I loved that, loved the thrill of it. A very successful businesswoman once told me that every day you should do something that scares you. I believe in that wholeheartedly, even if it's just a seemingly little thing like recording a song. It's scary but that goosebumpy feeling is also exhilarating, and once it's over it leaves a warm and fuzziness behind, like I did something important for myself today.

Who/What are your major artistic influences?

I'm a classic rock kinda girl. I love Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Guns n Roses, pretty much anything from that era. My favourite newer rock bands are ones that were heavily influenced by those classics, like the Foo Fighters and am I ever on a Greta Van Fleet rollercoaster of love right now! Give me a strong heart-pounding guitar solo launching into a powerful chorus with wailing vocals any day of the week!
